please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Yep gone, apartments on the way.

Now boarded up. Don't know if it will be re-opening.

Humm.... not great. When ordering food I felt like some kind of freak because I asked for the vegetarian choices. I ordered a meditterean pie which came with chips, carrots and green beans. However the carrots and green beans were covered in meat gravy. Hint guys - if someone orders a vegetarian meal it may because they don't eat meat!

Spent a good three hours in this place on Wednesday 20 October before popping off to a gig at the Shepherd's Bush Empire. If this place is closed then I shall have to redefine my understanding of the term...

Grecian has described the pub well, it is a bit trendified, but I liked it. It's quite a large pub. Lots of settee space and a few tables and chairs, none of which seem to match. Subdued lighting. Interesting pictures and posters on the wall behind the bar - a bit of a retro sixties feel going on here.

Disappointingly (to me) they did not have any real ale on when I arrived despite having three pumps on show. Later on, after I had blasted my way through three pints of Guinness, I noticed that the Adnams pump was up and running,

Clientele did not look like real ale drinkers so I imagine that despite having three pumps for ale they probably only have one on the go at any one time.

On the subject of the patrons, it was a late twenties - thirties crowd, mostly. Quite a few female couples, so I would judge it female friendly.

Bar staff were great and brought the beers over to our table. Probably would have done table service too (i.e. taken orders at the table), but we were drinking up and had to move on.

Food was standard pub fare. Hot, well cooked - it did the job, but it's not a gastronome's pub.

7/10 - would have been 8 if the ale had been on when I arrived at 5:45pm on a Wednesday.

It's not closed. It's just been taken over.

Large trendified pub on Goldhawk Road beyond the tube station. The pub has been done up in the fashionable style (dark interior, sofas, beads dangling from the ceiling etc.). We attended the quiz night which was quite fun; the pub was busy without being packed and the atmosphere was welcoming. Lots of continental lagers of various kinds and three ales including Deuchars and TT Landlord. The food menu looked on the short side but that may have been because it was Sunday. I'd return for the quiz but doubt I'd go here any other night of the week.

Certainly one of the best of the Shpherds Bush pubs by far. A warm welcome, nice relaxed atmosphere, decent wel-kept ales (the TT Landlord, Deuchers IPA and London Pride were all 10/10). The food is excellent, very good value for money and the more 'ethnic' menu reflects the make-up of the local population - the Moroccan meatballs and Jamaican jerk chicken were both very good indeed.

I live very close to the Goldhawk and it's my preferred local - I go there most days for a pint. The interior is spacious and pleasant with a mix of tables, sofas and chairs and there's a decent array of beer at lower prices than some other places around here (though let's face it, this is still London) including several ales if you like that sort of thing.

There's a little front "garden" with a hedge to set it back from the road, and awnings and trestle tables. I've only eaten there a couple of times but the food seems fine in general and the kitchen's always busy. The atmosphere is helped a lot by the staff, who are a cheerful, friendly bunch and good at their job.

The crowd is mostly 20s and 30s, though more of a mix during the week. Gets quite busy on the weekends but not impossibly so; it's also rammed on match days before the game, but since they don't show the football on the telly, everyone clears out before kickoff.

There is live music on Tuesdays and Thursdays which is pretty much just covers, but I'd rather have a band on than no band on, and it's not so loud you can't talk. Otherwise, the music is CDs or an occasional DJ. The quiz is definitely good - tough competition mind.

Overall it's a relaxed place that has a good balance between trendy and real. It's got character but it's not rough as old boots.

I like this pub. It used to be my local, located as it was at the bottom of the road and I often enjoyed stopping off for a cheeky solo pint on the way home from work. If the weather's fine and you get there early enough to catch the afternoon sun before it disappears behind the building, then the outside terrace is a fine spot indeed.

Things are also very nice inside, with a relaxed ambience, aided by friendly staff and a decent clientele. I haven't explored the menu very far but it looks decent enough. They have a good range of continental beers on tap and decent bottles beers/ciders etc.

I don't live round the corner any more but will still happily travel to what is - I think - one of the best pubs in the Bush.

nellypaal - 9 Jun 2008 15:59
I have to agree with travis that some of the reviews here are suspiciously gushing.

The place seems to be largely populated by displaced Sloanes, many of whom need to learn come manners.

The quiz night is a redeeming feature and is well worth a visit.

On the whole, the barstaff are pleasant with the exception of one or two who seem to display a perplexing hostility to anyone over the age of 35. Maybe they would be better off working in a youth club.

Sorry to be negative but some of our recent experiences have resulted in us now giving The Goldhawk a wide berth.
fatherjack - 29 Apr 2008 21:57
My post criticising the dubious entertainment of tarot readings, book writers clubs and monopoly competitions at this pub has now been removed, so I think everyone is perhaps best advised to take the collection of overwhelmingly positive reviews here with a pinch of salt. Not saying they're not genuine mind, just that there's been a bit of cleansing going on.
travis - 13 Feb 2008 16:14
My girlfriend recommended this place, and I wasn't disappointed. They have a great selection of drinks (hot and cold) and the food looks brilliant. I get the impression that the owners don't take themselves too seriously which adds to the good vibes (i.e. the friendly blackboard notices all over the pub advertising the quiz, DJ night etc). There's a nice little beer garden / smoking area out the front too, albeit located on the main road.

AND... they have Scrabble. Great fun!
kingston_toon - 14 Dec 2007 12:47
Great pub, an excellent range of beers including Woodforde's Wherry which was in perfect condition and served in proper mugs- as it should be! The decor manages to be modern and homely, and the food menu looked good. A youngish crowd. A large pub with plenty of tables and chairs- overall, one of the best pubs around.
napoleon_dynamite - 30 Jun 2007 11:32
I'd heard there were some nice pubs along Goldhawk Road, and the Goldhawk tempted me in with their blackboard advertising "tasty ales" on tap including Deuchars IPA (which is generally enough to sell a pub for me).
The front section was fairly crowded with trendy media types, but we didn't have too much trouble finding a sofa in the back section. Decent range of drinks, and music at a sensible volume too.
nonstick - 29 Apr 2007 19:01
Gone are the days when we had to wear out coats to keep us warm here. Guess when they lost the decent customers they had to take drastic measures and spend a few quid on decor. Its the only good move they've made since the Mc'Gowans reign. Unlucky for them they never managed to draw back the customers that used the pub then. Now they have heating and pleasant decor but a bunch of prats as customers. Not a place to be seen. Carry on down towards the green. Next stop the Flock. Then your in a right pub
spotcheck - 16 Apr 2007 18:05
Since my last comment some time ago, my admiration for this place has risen further. My only gripe has been that they seem to run out of real ale fairly regularly (maybe thats a good sign?) but when they have it they often have three on tap (e.g. T Taylor, Adnams Broadside and London Pride being examples) which have been of very good quality. They do have a couple of more interesting lagers too plus Fruili as well. It is very chilled and deservedly getting more popular; it is clearly one of the best pubs in the area.
LovePubs - 26 Mar 2007 11:31
What a brilliant evening we had with the new quiz run on Sundays. Really has a great atmosphere and even though we didn't win, we'll definately return. Even if it is just for their amazing Sunday Roasts with all the trimmings. Great Vibe and a really good wine selection, happy to call this my local.

sketchydodgy - 6 Mar 2007 17:21
I'm a residential regular at the Goldhawk, and since the change of management some time mid-last year there's been a huge improvement in service and food. The Sunday roast comes highly recommended, overall the food would give alot of Shepherds Bush pubs a run for their money. The latest quiz night host (Sunday night) is pretty good too, with a good bunch of prizes.
punks - 26 Feb 2007 19:04
This pub has really improved over the past year. The food is great, the bar staff actually know what they are doing and are always friendly, and it has good astmosphere. It is without a doubt the best pub in that area.
bridge - 26 Feb 2007 10:25
Went to the quiz on Sunday night and had a good time, including winning a meal for 2. Lots of prizes incuding a cash prize. The atmosphere is pleasant and there is a good range of beer including Leffe. Looking forward to trying out the food son
NorthLondonGirl - 6 Feb 2007 14:22
Came here for the first time on monday have to say its not the best pub Ive been in but the some of the reviews here are unfair I think it has some very good qualities ecspecially the barmans disgust when some pillock tried to pay for a glass of pommigranite juice with his card
juzza - 14 Jun 2006 03:08
I like this pub. It's never too smokey and you can always find room. The staff are always friendly and speak english, a rare thing for London. There is also a nice seating area out the front to enjoy once the weather improves.
naughtyornice - 31 May 2006 13:26
The Beer tastes bad and so does the food. Keep on walking cos not only does it lack atmosphere but staff who know what they're doing. It's still confused whether its an old mans boozer or just in bad taste. Not even worth the walk.
thispubsux - 26 May 2006 21:47
The best pub on Goldhawk Road, well, that's not saying much. Basically: it's not covered in peeling paint and grotty Irish flags; the likelihood of getting mugged for your small change outside is lower; every fifth person is an alcoholic as opposed to every single person. So therefore it's the best pub on Goldhawk.
If you live in the area go here, if not then what the hell are you doing even reading reviews for pubs around here?
algis100 - 26 May 2006 11:40
In an area not known for great pubs, you could do a lot worse than the Goldhawk. Despite numerous apparent makeovers there is still some character left. The spacious, truncated U shaped bar has bare floors, dim lighting, a mixed style of seating and is partly non-smoking. The dcor is also a mixed bag with modern art and leopard skin (effect) light shades but somehow, the clash of styles and furniture all seems to work. The beer selection was not too impressive Youngs Special (at 2.70) was the only Real Ale and was interestingly served in an old fashioned dimpled pint mug. The wine list and food menu looked fine with main courses between 7 and 10. There are also some tables outside if you want to take in the traffic fumes of the Goldhawk Road.
RogerB - 1 Mar 2006 13:50
Normally, I like this pub a lot loungy, lots of space, foods good and even some real ale too but our Friday evening visit was spoilt by the sound system belching out end-of-runway levels of noise - hardly conducive to enjoyable conversation. Our group asked the bar staff to get the DJ to turn the music down to no real effect - as we couldnt hear ourselves shout, let alone talk. No-one was dancing or taking any notice of the DJs music his presence was more of a deterrent than anything else. Shame, as otherwise this place is pretty good and worth a visit.
LovePubs - 7 Dec 2005 12:39
the best pub/bar along the goldhawk rd, funky interior and great selection of beer and wine, menu i've noticed changes quite frequently. staff are friendly and easy on the eye. this site has had bad publicity but is on the up, well worth checking out, djs friday night and last licence beginning end of november 2005. go form your own opinion, don't always believe what you hear or read, quiz mondays is a must!!
mek - 28 Oct 2005 14:32
I really like this place, spacious, plenty of seats and the selection of beer is eclectic and different, and well served. my only gripe is that that it only gets anywhere near lively on one night per week : Quiz night on Mondays, which incidentally is a great quiz, not your avegage pub quiz and an incredible cynical MC. Recommended
bumpby - 16 Oct 2005 11:04
I happened to really like the place. Fruhli by the half pint was a novelty, and great selection of foreign lagers (Kolsch, Staropramen, Riegele.....). Funky decor, without being a clone modern pub. Dodgy art on the wall though. What is that Beatles Yellow Submarine painting all about??!
Nico - 22 Sep 2005 14:55
Really dissapointed by this place, which was my local for quite some time. After being over charged on my card I was refused any refund, until I said I wouldn't go back in the pub again. Such a shame seeing as it's a nicer pub in the area!
anonymous - 22 Jun 2005 17:01
Lovely comfy sofas, but my couple of visits have been spoiled by overly loud music for a pub, and once my friends and I were told with just a little too much smugness that food serving time was over. Beer/Interior all fine though.
downthepub - 16 Jun 2005 13:07
Good pub food, drinks are pricey but a good selection. Very laid back atmosphere and excellent staff, unlike the chain pubs nearer the Green.

QPR fans do come here on match days but it tends to be families rather than disenfrachised youth...I don't know what anonymous's definition of a rough crowd is, but this is my local and I've never seen any trouble.
manonabus - 10 Jun 2005 15:15
This was a good pub when it first opened after being refurbished and it was always busy with a friendly crowd, seems to have gone downhill though. Rough crowd and packed with footie supports when they're playing. Beer always used to be a bid dodgy as well, flat and warm. Will I go there again? Very unlikely!
anonymous - 26 Apr 2005 16:36
Intensely irritating. One of those spacious, well decorated modern pubs with a reasonably priced menu which only sells expensive lager, wine at over 4 a glass, and one obscure, watery and badly kept ale.
foxski - 29 Mar 2005 00:59
pretty nice for the area -revamp is great - very moder with stripped wooden floors but it still has a nice atmosphere with fireplaces etc...
anonymous - 3 Nov 2004 14:42
ok, they have gone down the route of selling eatable food and I really don't think that's a bad thing at all. However unlike most "gastro" pubs the staff here are generally pleasant and don't give you too much of a hard time when you are testing out your newly invented QPR songs on the rest of the pub after the game on a Saturday afternoon. I had a massive bruschetta for 2.99 as well and that ain't bad. Ok, my mate said that is outrageous for tomatoes on bread but it really was good value, honest.

Also they love beer in this place, always a fine range of ales, proper cider and all sorts of Belgian lagers.

John - 30 Oct 2004 11:53
Seems like it was done up or maybe done down since I was last in this bar. Shame it used to be a great place.
Jamie - 28 Oct 2004 22:02
Not too bad for a Mitchells & Butlers paint by numbers job. The food's reasonable if a bit pricey and the beer is good. You can pass the time nicely here.
manonabus - 23 Oct 2004 16:32
A tolerable enough place which because of its size is a good football pub, even despite the lack of a telly and the stubborness of the staff to have it treated as a football pub - I'm almost surprised they let you in with football colours.

The ales (usually Pride and Bombadier) are nice enough but judging by the prices, the food must be laced with diamonds.
travis - 3 Sep 2004 11:50
So nice that you forget that you are in the armpit of West london. Friendly service and good beer.
Adam - 17 Aug 2004 11:27
Agree with the last comment. This used to be a decent boozy before the standard makeover. As with alot of these pubs there seems to be so much echo you have to shout to make yourself heard.
anonymous - 6 Jul 2004 20:33
The low rating probably derives from it being an identikit pub: same wooden flooring, menus on chalkboards, low leather couches, etc, etc, as everywhere else it seems.
beeronaut - 20 Jun 2004 20:26
Really nice place. Good beer, great staff. Surprised it's rated so lowly. A rarity in that its recent refit is an improvement. Lots of nice comfy places to sit and wile away the hours.
James - 27 Feb 2004 10:31
very cool pub - good for a pre-match pint if you want to avoid the crowds.
Chris - 5 Dec 2003 11:16
funky atmosphere, great food and great selection of drinks
Georgia - 20 Nov 2003 15:36
Good pub. Gone there for hair of the dog a couple of times and their comfy seats, good food and healthy range of cocktails and spirits have helped me enormously every time.
Tommy - 23 Aug 2003 17:22
Cool, trendy bar Decent food, changing menu. good wine list Dress policy no shell suits or creole earrings.
