It's very cheap and you get what you pay for.
I'm not a big fan of these places as they put smaller pubs/restaurants out of business.

Only down the road from the Beach Arms is the Deane Gate Inn.
Now this is really a lovely place that has some very nice food. It used to be PACKED and busy and it still has it's regulars. Although thanks to the likes of the Beach Arms and it's huge and all day running buffet, it's out of custom and slowly and painfully going down the drain.

The Beach Arms has a buffet that runs all day and the best part of the evening.
The vegetables aren't of the best quality and it's not great, but this is expected with a place that caters for so many. Like I said, "you get what you pay for".

If you're driving by and could do with some quick food (provided the que isn't massively long), then yeah... a few quid for a meal is alright.
Not really a pub atmosphere... Just cheap drink and a lot of people eating.

I wouldn't really recommend this place to anyone.

The beer is very very cheap,.. and the food is 'ok',.. very good for the money,.. I certainly wouldn't say it was as good as a 4 star restaurant.

Also when it's busy you have a line of poeple all the way through the restaurant,... so pick where you sit carefully, unless you want a load of poeple standing right next to your table when your trying to eat,..

All my shellsuits are in a" neat little box" labled open to be openend when going to the Beach Arms

Unfortunately by implication you gave the impression that The Beech Arms is a bit down market and therefore not worth a visit i.e. because the food served is inexpensive it is of a lower quality and therefore only worthy of what you see as the lower classes, the wearers of 'shellsuits'.

I wonder what neat little box you fit in.

I never said the food was"nt any good or the setting,!
Can you wear your shellsuit in a four star restaurant ?

Ignoring 'fiftyfive - winchesterclub & to a lesser extent anonymous' who just illustrate snobbery at its worst The Beech Arms is an Old English County Pub at its best offering inexpensive food, pleasant surroundings and first class service. The food offered by the Carvery is excellent, just as good as you could buy in any four star restaurant offering a similar service, the only difference is it does not cost you an arm or a leg. Would I eat there again, yes and would I recommend you give them a try, definitely.

dined here yesterday excellent carvery and a good pint of bombader.
very friendly staff very good value for the money.
but you do have a lot of o.a.p's but for that price what can you expect.

Dined here yesterday. 4x carvery (with Roasted ham, Turkey and beef) 4 huge puddings, 1 Pint of Stella.(they only had had John Smiths or Bombardier in Keg) 2 cokes and a special fruit drink for 30.00
The food was of good quality and the service was good. I think that people having to queue for food at 16:45 on a Thursday is a sign that this is a good place to dine.
Tell me anywhere else you can get a meal for 4 for 30.00

Excellent place, on the main Overton Road. Don't be put off by the 'hotel' suffix, this is a proper pub. Excellent food and beer prices here, including the carvery, known for it's good value in the area. Monday - Saturdays 12 - 5 will set you back 3.50, between 5 and 9 for 4.50 and 6.50 all day Sundays. The staff here are so good, when my girlfriend left her bag in here by accident they were literally nearly falling over each other to give it back. Very helpful. Definately be back soon.
