Thinks it's Natasha when it looks like Elsie.
Why is west Hampstead now dearer than proper Hampstead ? No ale - a fiver a pint for trendy keg beers in a bar that is nothing special at all.
West Hampstead keeps trying but you can't make a silk purse from a rat's arse.

have seen this place change names almost as much as i have changed underwear and none of them have been any good.

the place is too small with a bar dominating the whole room leaving little in the way of space for patrons to relax.

service terrible and staff act like they are doing you a favour by serving you.

def one to avoid, the lion (about 30 meters away) is such a better option it is like offering someone yo sushi when there is a nobu next door

Bad in general ! Overpriced drinks and un trained staff !

Comedy of errors. Barman wouldn't serve me, told me to wait for a waitress to come along to the table (I'd already been waiting a while...). 15 mins later finally get to order. - it wasn't even busy!! 20 mins after that still no drink - ask another waitress, no idea what has happened. Re-order, wait another 10 mins. Finally get my overpriced (4.25 + mandatory 12.5% "service charge") pint. They add this to the adjacent table's (??) bill. Ordered another pint, again took ages. Finally get the bill, but 4 drinks on there when it should be two. Eventually sort this out, but when the bill comes my mate takes offence and asks them to drop the service charge - cue lots of dirty looks and a lot of fuss.

All in all, terrible service and tremendously overpriced drinks. Avoid.

stupidly expensive. nice decor. no decent beer. outside terrace decent if a little cramped. our australian waitress was super friendly and looked after us well.

that's about it really, nothing special but not a disaster, and at least they were welcoming.

I would NOT recommend this pub as it is overpriced and some of the staff are rude and can't get orders right.
I've been here twice and each time we have been unhappy. 1. My friend orders a steak sandwich and gets a burger. When she complained the waitress just stared blankly and then said enjoy your meal. 2. My friend and I ordered a shandy with the cheapest lager. We were charged for 2 pints of the most expensive beer plus 10% making two shandies a hefty 9.10.
For such an expensive establishment you would expect the toilets to be working order - there was only one light working so always a queue.
Do not waste your money here!!

Now known as the Alice House, and whilst not great a vast improvement on Cane, Eclipse, the Irish bar whose name I forget now and everything else that has been on this site before.
West Hampstead is pretty dire for pubs/bars, and in the context of the area it's not bad now. Red Stripe and Peroni on draught. Did pay 4 for a pint of Peroni mind; it's is still very overpriced, but the atmosphere, decor and staff are a major improvement on eclipse.

When a public bar employs bouncers you know you want to avoid this overpriced joint. The pub this location formerly represented is dead. This kind of joint kills the trade.

Sold at auction for 971k. Let's hope it gets turned into a decent boozer - bring back Scruffy's lol.

RIP OFF. first off, the bar is badly laid out, second, the deck only holds a handful of people, thrid, WAY over priced. the crowd is a mix between "wanna be posh" and chavs. i don't know any locals who drink here mainly people from out of the immediate london area. Only been here twice - once a while back and only stayed for two drinks. More recently because we were meeting a friend not familiar with the area. We stayed for one drink and left. Would rather meet at the Railway or even Pizza Express (and with the latter, that is desparate!). Don't know why W Hampstead doesn't have any good local bars or even restaurants. The chains are completely taking over.

Stupid high prices.
1 pint of beer
1 vodka & coke

9!!!!

service is erratic, and that's being generous. prices are a rip off. it has potential, and is not quite as bad as many of the comments suggest; as the outdoor area is nice in the summer, but it's got to be marked quite low due to the prices.
mps77 - 31 Jul 2007 11:31
twelve quid for two drinks!
Nicola_Loves_It - 25 Jul 2007 12:39
They've just added an outdoor deck for the summer - which looks impressive. But the place is still full of to$$ers - on both sides of the bar!

I went in here last night and ordered two diet cokes. The barman opened a can poured the contents into two glasses and I was charged four pounds for the priviledge. It would have been bad enough being charge 2 for a can. What a rip-off!

I like the funky decor, although almost TOO dark in there in the evenings.. and I'd rather order my drinks at the bar than sit drinkless at a table for 20 minutes until they bring them over.
Overall, alright.

Would be a good place to drink if it didnt burn a hole in your wallet so much!!! And bar staff did less dancing and stuffing about and just served drinks like theyre paid too.

Hopefully the next pub to open in place of the old Red Lion will put Eclipse in its place and create a bit more competition.

Agree with the previous comments. Extortionate prices, the bar-staff should wear masks and stripey jumpers, and the amount of try-hards in here is incredible.

Change on a plate, served by bar-staff who's self importance means they don't rush for a crammed bar means service is frustrating.

They serve a nice Russian beer, Baltika, but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle putting up with the staff or the fellow drinkers.

7.50 for a double vodka. Better than Cane, but not that much.

I went to this place in its first week of opening. Feeling rather hungry, my partner and I asked for a menu and ordered shortly after. We were told that they werent serving food that night (so why give me a menu in the first place).

So I went to the bar to order some drinks, and was promptly (rudely) told to sit down and wait for table service. After another 10 minutes, we finally got served, then waited almost 10 minutes before we got our drinks. There was hardly anyone in the bar, so the waiting time was a little hard to swallow.

This place had an opportunity to give West Hampstead a cool bar in a great location. However, the staff at Eclipse forget which side of the bar they are on.

As a result of the staff, I would never visit this place again ... even if you paid me.

Formerly Cane. The refurbishment isn't too different. Lick of paint all round, seems brighter and more open.

Asked for half a pint of Kronenburg and the guy went into a long explanation about how they don't sell half pints or pints. I'm not sure how much is in the glass but would guess about 2/3 of a pint. For this you pay the princely sum of 3. I said to him "so you're charging more for less" but you do get the opportunity to feel all continental. He ignored me.

There are a couple of other draught lagers from 3.50 per............er, glass. They also do cocktails and snacks. When I last went in and not wanting to get ripped off I ordered an organic hot chocolate but was told they're not serving hot drinks yet.Seems to be table service when
it's not busy. You get change on a plate.

When I've walked past it at night it seems heaving so I guess it's doing well.

The brewery are having a laugh and wild horses won't drag me in there again.
