Two first time posters, who both joined this site today, posting within 20 minutes of each other and both slagging this pub off. Ignore.

Avoid.

Avoid, unless you want to feel as though you're a cowboy, striding into a saloon bar to be confronted by a sea of suspicious eyes and the ominous sound of a guitar string being twanged.

Avoid, unless you want to feel as though you're in The League of Gentlemen: a local pub, for local people.

Avoid, unless you prefer your pint accompanied by a scowl and a huff, and the unsettling feeling that your custom is not welcomed here.

Avoid, and walk ten minutes up the road instead to Clifton Hampden, where the Railway Inn will offer you food, drink, comfort and - most importantly, a smile.

Worst. Pub. Ever.

The hostility when you enter this pub is palpable. Actually, it begins before you even enter. Everyone in there, from the owner to the locals, acts as if this is their front room and that they are doing you a massive favour by just letting you breathe there. Service, such as it is, is grudging and slow.

The first time I went there in 2011, it was pretty awful. Thought it may have just been an off-day; but no, they've been honing their resentment and dislike for anyone who steps off the train and into their "pub".

Ended up in the Barley Mow (OX14 3EH), which was friendly, with good beer, great food, and a welcoming atmosphere. So no matter how tempting the proximity to the station, don't fall for it and drink in the Railway Inn. It can really cast a shadow over your day/weekend.

Just refurbished from a Curry serving establishment back into a real pub serving traditional pub food and most importantly Good Beer - Just had 6X and Hobgoblin there and cannot fault the service, prices .
Only one slight criticism - the bar was getting a bit hazy from the kitchens' huge burgers......

The Railway Inn spent some time as "The Jolly Porter" and was a bikers pub for a while. In its current guise as The Railway Inn it became a pub, restaurant and guest house. It has recently become an Asian restaurant, and initial reports about the food have been good. The restaurant looks smart and the separate public bar has been retained for use by the locals. Cask Ales are available, including those from the Loddon Brewery.
