user reviews of the Crown and Cushion, Derby

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I used to like the C+C. However, that was at least 3 years ago, when there were always a minimum of 2 real ales on and the place didn't reek of neglect and aggression. As a Marston's pub this should be so much better than it currently is. The board outside offers it as a 'business opportunity' so I assume that it is under temporary management and may, hopefully, soon become a better pub than it currently is.

Imagine unwashed benefit claimant wearing fake Tommy Hilfiger jumper covered in dog hairs........well done....now you have a picture of a Crown and Cushion regular in your mind. Add a few lines of coke and a bad attitude.

People you don't want to meet are in this rat hole.

If you add up all the regulars of this place you might just have enough for a full set of teeth.

Agreed - a rubbish pub that sometimes has pedi on as the best and only real beer despite the barmaid telling me her panda pop (Carling) was the best.

A lot quieter these days with a few interesting characters and a crap karaoke.

Often heavily policed on match days...

RUBBISH PUB WITH TACKY KARAOKE

I'm afraid I have to agree - this aint the best pub in the world. It was more a visit to say I've at least tried it than anything else. The pint I had was ok at best, but I'd say there's plenty of other choices in Derby that are better than this...

It's funny how the other 4 reviewers of the dire pub have all only reviewed this pub and no others, plus all seem to know "good 'ol" Jan and Rich - could they possibly be any relation I wonder?

If this really is the best pub you've been to I can't even imagine how bad the others you've tried are.

The atmosphere is dire, the beer rubbish and it's got a real attitude to it, I'd avoid it unless of course your one of Jan and Rich's mates.

been to Derby loads of times and always make sure i have a drink in this pub, its the best pub in the area where you get a warm welcome from everyone, and even a fellow geordie behind the bar welcoming us aswell.

does "Genuine Characters" mean people looking to kick you in? True it was on an England match day but that's no excuse, they shouldn't let crap like that go on. Of all the pubs on Midland Road/Railway Terrace I can't think of a worse one, just full of pissed up old geezers glaring out the windows.

I have just been to derby for the weekend and we have been to the crown and cushion .
I think it has a great atmosphere and the staff are very helpfull I can recommend the kronenburg and the sunday lunch is a must as you can not beat home made food.
Keep it up Jan & rich

This pub is terrible, stay well clear unless you want a sound kicking. Don't remember the pint I had as I was too busy trying to calm a guy who wanted to lamp me one. Considering the number of pubs in this area it's amazing it's in business, but then I guess it's useful to have somewhere to soak up the chavs. 1/10
