A cafe selling Belgian Beers (at continental prices). I tried a bog standard pils while the others tried more exotic chocolate and fruit beers.Three 275cl bottles came to over 15.

Have been meaning to add a second review here for a while. I took a group of friends here a few weekends back and, having read several negative comments about the food, I warned them of this in advance but needn't have. All six of us had excellent meals, which I didn't think were overpriced, given quality and quantity. Coupled with the brilliant beer range I'd recommend this place to anybody. The staff, including the owner whom we had a chat with at the end of the evening, were extremely friendly and accomodating. I'm sorry other posters have had negative experiences of the food and service here but on my two visits both were pretty faultless.

This place has a lot of things going for it, but the food is expensive and I experienced very poor service. Coffee was served before the dessert (which is a total no-no) and they then had the cheek to add a 10% service charge to an already expensive bill. I struck this out, but they deducted it anyway. When I complained, the money was given back to me with ill grace in shrapnel.

Having said that, the frites were some of the best I have experienced in this country for years - if only more restaurants did them like that rather than the all too typical chunky, half-cooked, inedible efforts they usually dish up.

Can only comment on quality/range of beer available and friendliness of staff - both great. Didn't try food. We had a table outside in the evening sunshine and drank Kwak and Westmalle Dubbel - both lovely. I haven't found many places serving such a range of Belgian beers at better prices in the UK and I'd definitely recommend it.

Ignore the food and focus on the beer! Would be better if you go just go in for a drink, imho. I resent paying 20+ a head for 1 course and 4 drinks. If you can create a bar area where I can sit and drink Chimay all evening then you'll take an awful lot of my money...

I was not impressed with anything here. An army marches on its stomach and a restaurant on its ability to deliver. This place does not deliver.

I and a few friends went out the other evening and experienced an utterly awful meal at Cafe Belge. The 4 meals may guests and I had been appalling:
Burgers were dry and overcooked with no filling in a dry bun. Fries not as good as McDonalds
Salmon fishcakes were soggy and should be described as salmon mash, and not the sort you would want to eat either.
I like a sandy beach with the briny lapping at my feet but I've come to the conclusion that served on a plate with spinach, it leaves much to be desired- crunch, crunch. It finds its way into the salmon mash too.
Avoid at all costs the Chinese mussels. These are cooked with ginger and soy sauce. The saltiness of this sauce coupled with the natural salt from the mussel liquor, created a dish far too salty too eat.
Lastly the braised beef cooked in beer. This may have been an acceptable dish had it been served when plated up, sadly it was not. There was a dry coating over the whole meal-as if kept under a heat source for some time. We shall not be returning. On the bright side though, the beer is good,

This is the Eastbourne branch of the successful and very popular Cafe Belge chain. As the British become more aware of the myriad delights of Belgian beer, as well as the sensual joy of moules et frite, so more such places as Beer Circus and Cafe Belge open up. There is a good atmosphere inside - friendly, relaxed and happy. The Tin Tin cartoons and the arched mirrors create a magical and joyful room. There are over 100 Belgian beers - each served in its own special glass - and 50 different mussel recipes to try. Prices are standard for Belgian beers bought in a bar and served in the appropriate glass. And, given the quality of the food, the prices for the moules et frite at mostly under a tenner is excellent - especially when compared to the price of a McDonalds meal. I especially loved all the Belgian beer posters down the stairs and in the loo. Great fun.

Cafe/ restaurant with good range of Belgian beers. Food not really worth it - nothing special and rather overpriced - but beer good.
