As seems the norm around here, friendly and unpretentious country pub. Beer was interesting and OK but really visit for the great countryside walk.

Very nice pub, three ales I've never heard of before on: Healey Silverstone & Wicked hound, both from Cottage brewing & St.Andrew's Ale from Belhaven. I tried the Silverstone which was excellent. The Sunday roast was very nice and cheap too, others had bagettes & soup and all were pronounced good.

Always at least 3 real ales on, all very well kept. Food tasty and reasonably priced. Kids & Dogs welcome.

I went to this pub with a group of 11 people doing the TimeOut country walk from Snodland to Sole Street. Based on the reviews below I was prepared for the worst but I have to say this pub has not got a fair shake. I called ahead to let the pub know we'd be there in a large group to order food, and they were very accommodating. Once we arrived, the staff (and regulars) were friendly, the ales good, and the food perfectly serviceable if not brilliant. It took a little while for everyone to be served but not bad considering there were 11 of us. We sat outside next to the cricket pitch, which was lovely. Altogether, a positive experience.

Lovely setting. Shame the service is so awful. Had to wait to be served even though the pub was virtually empty. Food is diabolical. Was served main course but refused dessert because they had decided to stop serving, despite menu stating later times for food.
Food is only served on certain days. Glasses were dirty. Toilets are absolutely appalling; cold, leaking and dirty. Gents has a bin underneath one urinal due to broken waste pipe. Would not recommend this pub to anyone.

How long does it take to make a sandwich. ? I was with a small walking group of 6 and we all ordered food, all sandwiches/baguettes and baked potatoes. No indication that there would ba a delay. First orders arrived after 40 minutes, at which point those who had ordered prawn baguette were told there were no prawns !! Rest of orders arrived at intervals over next half an hour or so, no aopologies for wait at all. APrt from us the oub was nearly empty. GREAT SPOT, but GET YOU ACT TOGETHER OR NONE OF OUR GROUP WILL BE BACK OR RECCOMMEND THIS PUB.

Whilst I appreciate that this is a very 'local' pub, it doesnt take long to become part of that group! Landlord and lady are very approachable, and up for a laugh, and will always do their best to help. Good range of drinks too, and a brilliant quiz on a Monday night, if a little competitive! Dont knock this pub until you've given it a try.

Spacious, comfortable pub with good food and real ale (Holy Smoke, but I think this was probably a guest beer.) I found the staff perfectly friendly (this was at lunchime on Sunday) and a Jack Russell almost excessively so. There is a painting inside illustrating the pub's name: an Amazon and tiger pose by a sea wall with the warships Amazon and Tigre in the background, signed Carolus pinxit MCMXCVI.

Lovely setting. Cricket green and seating to rear beergarden. Kids runaround at rear. Food is reasonable pub grub. Ales are well cared for. Service is usually very good by the barstaff, but I understand the above. Can be a very clicky group of City type people in the evening - and the manager seems to be in 'their gang'.

Highly recomended for afternoon passers-by and walkers.

Poor service
If you want a beer in here you will have to wait for the locals to be served first. The fact that you have been waiting longer than them and have a 20 note in your hand will go unnoticed by the staff. They are too busy chatting with the regulars. When the man right next to you gets served, then the barman goes to assist the barmaid with a food order, then wanders off to the other end of the bar to serve someone else, you know it's time to leave. You didn't get my money, Anmazon and Tiger, nor will you ever.

Lovely country pub with a friendly atmosphere selling real ales. Featuring The Amazon Restaurant with a la carte menu. Families welcome
