Pretty much agree with happytsskie on this one. Great freshly cooked food from a classic menu & interesting specials board. Top ales. Very clean pub. Tasteful with a classic pub feel. Unlike most 'gastro' pubs the tables aren't set up for diners, you can sit anywhere you like & don't feel out of place just having a drink. Friendly relaxed feel even though very busy when we were in.

We disagree over the prices though. We thought it was very reasonable all round. Food & drinks cheaper than most quality pubs in this part of the country, considerably so in some cases!

You get what you pay for and if you don't want pre-packed microwave junk it costs! They have a great snacks blackboard with everything 2.50. Black pudding fritters were first class - Highly recommend all round!

Large, pleasant gastro-style pub just a few minutes from Chester services off the M56. Very clean & tastefully decorated. Food is on the pricey side, however it is all freshly cooked & good quality. No microwaved rubbish here. Black Sheep plus rotating guests. Worth a visit.

Have a new head chef and it shows. Was always quite good but sometimes a bit slow and made mistakes. Now the food is first rate, service very relaxed & friendly & the place is always busy. Went for a friends birthday last week & everything was first rate. Reasonable prices on the bar and quality food at great value for money. The "homemade steak burger" was the first one I've ever had that was obviously homemade and it was superb! Quite a few people in just drinking. Nice atmosphere.

This place just got even better - they're having a January Sale with most of the mains half price. Sign of the times maybe but great for customers!

Real ale always spot on. One of the few quality pubs around where you're welcome just for a drink.

Visited for Sunday Lunch. Good value & quality with as many roast spuds and veg as you want. Massive Yorkshire puds. We were all stuffed. Was really busy but the service was still pleasant and unhurried. Lovely log fire, papers and relaxed atmosphere. Good choice of ales in great condition. Will def go again.

excellent highly recommended the menu changes often and everything is freshly cooked. we went to the vegetarian taster evening and eveything was fantastic - can't wait to try all the full sized versions! Very friendly service too - think this place is going to become our local!

Fish & Chips here isn't just any frozen junk. It's two crispy fresh plaice fillets with real, homemade chips - I go here specially for the fish and chips and at 8.70 its really good value. Hubby loves the fillet steak which is excellent comes with veg and sauce all in (not like many places round these parts who charge extra for sauce and extra for veg)

Sorry but fish and chips, burger and chips is standard fare and the prices are high for the food on offer. Very good beer though

Ok, totally agree on the beer- I'm in there a lot just for a drink & it's always top notch! bellevueace, I guess you didn't try the food- "standard pub fare" comes nowhere near it! Food is so much better than that- you get what you pay for, and for what you get it's more than reasonably priced

Clean pub and the adnams broadside was good. I think 9 for fish and chips and 8.70 for burger and chips to be way over the top for standard pub fare. On entering the pub had two menus thrust into my hand and was told the drinks could be ordered from the table when ordering food, only wanting drinks felt this approach slightly railroaded you, took away the feel of a traditional pub for me.

Great pub - menu short but top quality nosh. House wine is first class. They do a snacks and nibbles blackboard and smart big sharing platters. Cute barman!

Took family for lunch - very smart insided - modern but still quite a traditional pub feel - real log fire, candles, papers. Food was first class restaurant quality with very god portions. Beer in good condition. No smoking throughout.

Great pub - recently refurbished and is now completely no smoking. The beer is always good, the food is excellent and its got a nice atmosphere (especially when the real fire is going!).

Food looked and smelled good upon arrival but we didn't stay due to poor choice for vegetarians. 2 choices only and both pretty uninspiring and expensive - would be good if they offered a vegi option on the roast dinner. I wouldn't go there only because I am vegi.
