closed and up for sale - I imagine the dead head locals will be happy now - I wonder how many houses they will squeeze on.

Shame for the new guys who are trying but the pub isnt worth the long trek anymore and with it on the market now may soon be 3 houses like the new Inn in Swanmore.

Went to this pub Saturday night. I was one of 10 of us who booked our xmas party. We had the xmas menu and the food was really really good, table laid up nice with crackers and candals. The pub looked great really chrismassey with the decorations xmas tree and lights, looked like a real santas groto. They had obviously gone to alot of trouble making the pub look good and we were all made to feel very welcome. They had a log fire which made it even more cosy and homely. We asked about the parrot reading the other review and the landlady went to get him. Jasper was spectacular bigger than i expected and what lovely colours he was. We were told he is a macaw.
What a great night we all had!!!

What a great pub! Friendly staff, Good atmosphere and great food. Came here on a Saturday night. They had a hog roast going in the back garden and live music. Have been back a couple of times since with friends and the food was good each time. Recommend a visit you wont be disappointed!!!

I came to this pub with my family on Sunday. Havent used this pub for about 4 years. I was told it had been taken over by new people about 18 months or 2 years ago so thought i would give it a try. Glad i did. Very friendly, food was good we sat in the back garden which was nice and safe for the kids. I was also glad i could take my little yorkie terrier (poppy) in as well. Looks like it has been redecorated since my last visit which has really made a difference for the better. We will be back very soon!!

I live locally to this pub. There have been big changes here since Steve took over 2 years ago. It has become a bit of a social hub and they have very nicely renovated the back garden with a covered smoking area and had brand new toilets fitted. The roaring log fires are now supplemented with radiators.
Its warm and very friendly with a lively and well behaved local crowd. Steve serves honest pub grub in good portions, often with local game in season. They recently got CAMRA recognition and have Doom Bar, Ringwood Best and a FFF or Bowman ale on tap and often gravity dispensed. Theres a piano if you want to play (just ask) and often a local band on Fridays when its most lively. They close on mondays usually.
They welcome dogs too. Nice for a stop off on a country walk or drive into the national park. You might even meet Jasper, the Parrot (hes a Macaw really).

I lived along the lane from this pub for a few years and enjoyed it as my local. they say never try to capture your past - having moved and returned to the area a recent visit was very disappointing. it has gone form a pub that extolled the virtues of conversation and geniality to one where loud and brash predominate. Good luck to the crowd who use it at least they are keepin the pub going - but its not for me any more i am afraid.

WOW! Came here on Sunday to celebrate my daughters 18th birthday with 12 friends and family. We had, without a doubt the best Sunday lunch we've ever had.
Real meat and plenty of it not the plastic rubbish we've had elsewhere, and how nice to have properly cooked vegetables instead of stewed mush, and the best homemade apple pie we'd ever tasted for dessert thrown in for free. Perfect! Friends recommended eating here as excellant value for money and now we've been I shall never cook a roast again. We'll be back for every occassion now that we've found this little place. Must agree with the majority what a pleasure it was to be served personally by the fabulous young owners and what a super little treasure this place is! As for 'anonymous' posted on 14th August I can only imagine that he must have reviewed the wrong pub. PERFECTION!

The most obnoxious landlord I have never met. Avoid this so called Public House. I and my wife had the misfortune of calling in for Sunday lunch yesterday (13 Aug 06). After a poor quality roast lunch (the only thing on the menu)comprising of a limited amount of meat covered up by a ridiculous amount of undercooked peas we queried the bill as we were charged for desserts and coffee that we did not have. I discussed this with the landlord who proceeded to tell me all about his personal and staff problems and told me not to come back if I had a problem with the meal!!! This was followed by him telling me that he did not give a f*** in response to me telling him that his attitude was very disappointing and not the way to run a business. We moved to Hampshire in April 06 and are now delighted that we are moving to Cornwall in Oct!

What a super little treasure. A real country pub serving real food, these are few and far between these days! What an absolute delight to be pleasently greeted by the hard working owners, and more pleaseing for my husband was the perfect pint of real ale and amazing feast of food we were served.
This quaint little place stands head and shoulders above the other establishments purporting to be traditional, and now we've found it we'll never go anywhere else!
