Nice cosy pub with what looks like bed and breakfast rooms at the back , the pub garden is large with a bouncy castle for the kids very nice will defo return

Just returned from a 2-night stay here. Accomodation was up the road from the pub but this was no problem. Very clean. Tye & Di make you feel welcome from the minute you arrive. Many thanks for a great stay. I still don't believe Tye's story about golf balls but it was fun anyway ! Cheers

Historic village pub with a newer (but sympathetic) accommodation building added at the back. Several real ales on, including a nice pint of Harveys. Not visible (or signposted, as far as I could see) from the 'main' road through the village (itself bypassed), but well worth seeking out.

I had an excellent pint of Harvey's "Best", whilst my chauffeur had a pint of Timothy Taylor "Landlord", a week ago last Saturday served by the Landlord himself.
Also on handpump were Fuller's "London Pride" and Shep's ubiquitous "Master Brew".
The restaurant area is mom-smoking, whilst smoking is permitted in the bar itself, even though there are no ashtrays on the bar, but you need only ask. The landlord pointed out that the fire ( which is open on two sides ) that dominates the pub creates more smoke and smell than tobacco.
Extra seating is available in the patio area which has a retractable awning for the more clement weather, and the garden is lovely on those lighter evenings, where you can watch the local team playing Bat & Trap.
I still cannot pass comment on the food compared with what it was like under the previous owner, but if the Phantom Raspberry generously feels that the new landlord has still to settle in, all I can say is that if the standard has not increased over the last eighteen months, then what he and his family had last Sunday will be about as good as it's going to get.
Having said that, it's still one of my favourite country pubs in very pretty surroundings, and thus maintains its score of 8/10.

A lovely old pub with an open fire place for the winter and gardens for the summer in a quiet little village fifteen or so minutes walk from Sandwich train station. Four or five different engines with rotating ales. The beer is as well kept as it ever was but no longer served straight from the barrel. The restaurant was, sadly, a disappointment although not for want of effort from the very attentive waitresses but just not up to previous exceptional standards. I'll be generous and say the new owners need to settle in. Well worth going for the beer alone and would be interesting to know what others think about the food. Will post further report later in the year. Beer 8/10 Food 5/10

Just returned from a 2 day stay at the Crispin...our 2nd time there, and once again made to feel very welcome by Tye and the gang. (BTW the young lady serving the meals in the evenings is gorgeous...think she's called Emma?!!) I seem to remember her from last year at Christmas. Anyway, we'll certainly be going back again this Christmas to stay. Top marks.

I visited this pub last night for the first time for about 18 months. It was a rather nasty night and all the table were occupied by diners.
The new landlord is very affable and my companions and I enjoyed a couple of excellent pints of Harvey's Best. The old stillage behind the bar is no longer there, and the four ales on offer are dispensed through a more conventional beer engine, fitted with, and this is one of my pet hates - a swan neck dispenser.
The other three ales on offer were Adnam's Broadside, Bass & the ubiquitous Greene King I.P.A.
The Crispin appears to be in safe hands and I shall make the effort to get here more often - it's only a 20mn stroll from Sandwich railway station. A superb country pub. Until I've had something to eat there, I'll rate it on the beer alone and give it a well deserved 8/10.

Just returned from a weekend stay at this Pub. Notwithstanding the Christmas rush, which was not at all surprising given the excellent food, we were well looked after, had comfortable accommodation and a wide and well-kept variety of real ales. It was a bit windy out on the coast however, but I suppose that can't be blamed on the Landlord.

Tye, the new landlord is excellent - especially as this is his first pub. He is a successful local plumber! The beer is excellent - including Harvey's Sussex, Adnams, London Pride and Shepherd Neame. The menu is good and varied and Clair, the chef, is adventurous.
Log-burning stove in winter, a vast garden (with swings etc) for the summer and a cosy, friendly atmosphere.

An ancient and picturesque 15th century pub (built 1420), in the delightful village of Word in Worth, just a mile or so from the mediaeval cinque port of Sandwich, serving great food and real ales and offering Bed and Breakfast accommodation. Very convenient for local Fishing, Golf Clubs and travel from Dover to Europe.
