please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I fell into this bar last Thursday night after kicking-out time from Ye Olde Watling. It's your standard City late-bar/club with most people office workers on a night out. Busy, drunken, but generally good natured. Friendly doorstaff, which is a pleasant novelty.

The strongest impression was how expensive the drinks are. I ordered a couple of G&Ts and got a bill for 23. I certainly did not say "I'd like two double Tanquerays and tonic, please" but that is what the receipt said - so either their standard bar-staple is ridiculously expensive, or else I got ripped off by the barstaff.

Either way, I won't be going back.

Went to celebrate a colleague's birthday. She booked in advance so we had an area which helped. Everyone was so friendly and the host even came over to assure our needs were being met. I was empressed as our section was decorated with balloons and the Birthday girl was not expecting this. Very thoughtful. We didn't realise, but they had some kinda promotion for January where we had drinks at half price until round 10. That was brilliant!!!

Unbelievably priced drinks - only 2 for a pint of becks last time I went and the atmosphere was amazing. The beer garden is one of the best places in the city to catch the last few rays of sunlight.

Had one of the best nights of my life last week. A colleague of mine had leavening drinks and platters at APT last Thursday and despite the depressing undertone of the party, the staff and the venue itself ensured it was an enjoyable and memorable night. We rang earlier in the week and reserved an incredible area, the reservations team was extremely helpful and best of all it didnt cost us a penny. The night itself continued on the same impressive line, the staff were friendly and extremely helpful even when one of my friends had card issues when settling the bar tab. We pre-ordered drinks and food for the night and it was all half price, we couldnt believe it. We partied until the early hours of the morning and needless to say had some great stories to tell at work on Monday. But by far the best part of the night happen the next morning on inspection of my bank account; I had only spent 40 quid. True value for money in the heart of the city.

Rubbish...Good for a late drink when you know you shouldn't bother but the devil on your shoulder tells you to !

Amazingly empty for a Wednesday night (especially considering it was the Champs League final) which made me think that people knew something about this place that I didn't. The interior is nice and spacious and the staff are quite pleasent. Special mention to the bouncer for letting me in even though I was wearing trainers when other places probably would have told me to go elsewhere. Would have to go back to this place on Friday or Saturday to see what's it really like i'd imagine.

went here for a mates birthday, happy hour is ok if you get served but try telling the waitress's to top up your pint when the head runs flat, here what happens:

punter: can u top that up (yuppy accent)
bartender: sorry (eastern europe accent)
punter: can you top up that pint please
bartender: sorry, Top it?
punter: Yeah, top it up, what are you thick or something?
bartender: DONT YOU CALL THICK ME..
punter: oh forget it love.

you see, you could be there all night if you have an issue with a drink, so keep it simple as the staff dont have a brain cell between them and they cant speak english, i can imagine the interview:

manager: hello..?
olga: my name is Olga
manager: can u pour a pint?
olga: NO
manager: your english is good?
olga: NO
manager: when can you start?

RUN FAR AWAY FROM THIS BAR! Rude beyond compare bar and door staff. Overpriced. Overcrowded. Dingy and soul less. Only 3 bar staff on a Friday night before Bank Holiday weekend! So the wait for the bar was over 20 mins each time. If you order your drinks during happy hour but they take ages to prepare the drinks and it goes over happy hour time, they will charge you full price!! They will make up an excuse for not serving pints then make you buy hugely overpriced bottles of beer. My jacket got pinched. Downstairs is pitch black. I could go on........

Similar to Alan Curbishleys managerial career at West Ham, my night at Apt started brightly and then went downhill. I came here Friday evening (2 Feb) for my mate's girlfriend birthday drinks. On first impressions, I liked the layout of this place, with the smaller upstairs bar and the larger area downstairs. The atmosphere, moreover, appeared lively and I enjoyed the music playing in the background. I then attempted to buy a round of drinks

Around 6ish, there apparently were no pint glasses?? I also had to wait a while to be served and be told this. So I eventually got 2 bottles of Corona, 1 bottle of Tiger, 1 Magners and a Vodka, lime and lemonade. This came to 17.25, so make what you want from that if anything about the prices of drinks. The Magners was 4.60 by the way, while the Tiger beer was reduced in happy hour.

Despite there being some female talent around initially, the place rapidly (and perhaps predictably) filled with blokes, presumably from the local City worker population and it became too overcrowded. Besides, the few women that were there appeared as friendly as a rottweiler off its lead, up their own @rse, touching on the "angry girls" remark in the second review for this place. Not really a place to come searching for H-Files then. Even when I left there was a queue of blokes hoping to come in, with the queue going back as far as the William Hill bookies.

Apt is the kind of place where dreams are made. That is it can be the night of your life, or unravel into a nightmare. As bipolar as a sexually experimental polar bear; busy nights can be laden with pretty people game for a carnival of flirting, but can just as easily descend into a mle of belligerent drunken fools waiting for any excuse to practice their white collar boxing. City egos... Funtime Frankies or Turgid Tysons.

To reiterate a previous review, I happened to speak to one of the senior barmen recently who informed me Thursday nights were more often than not frequented by the faux-upper crust; those of who are the types to start a tab, depart as the lights go up and cancel the card the next morning. Tsk tsk. Does the 90s TLC hit 'No Scrubs' apply here?

My suggestion is to attend one Thursday, go a bit early, or even reserve a seating area ahead of time for a group of your friends and enjoy the music with familiar company, then you'll have a great time.

I will also second a previous critic in that it isn't the cheapest venue, however happy hour does last from 6 til 8.

Dont go here!

I was in there about two weeks ago with friends. We had left our coats on top of the bar (at the end of it). I brushed against the coats and next thing I know something crashes behind the bar. The barman starts having a go at me waving something in my face and then some woman with a radio starts telling me off for not putting the coats in the cloak room! I told her I didn't know there was one and that I was disappointed at being told off in such an aggressive manner by her and the irate barman! Then before I know it i was man-handled out of the bar by two rather large men who said they wanted a word with me and before I could explain they pushed me onto the street. My friend got in trouble with the OB afterwards due to the incompetence of the staff (as it looked to the police as though we were causing trouble inside!) Ridiculous is the only word to describe it!

Basically this place sucks as the staff treat you like rubbish so don't go there or you might face a similar fate!

I found out later Apt Bar is one of the worst for trouble in the City - and im not surprised now as you dont even need to do anything (sorry you cant cause an ACCIDENT) to get thrown out!!!

I certainly will NEVER return...

Typical City bar inflated prices but service ok with pleasant staff. Outside seating best in area.

Completely changed my mind about this place since first time I went -at least staff are friendly and door staff are ok. Complete contrast to Reflex
nottelling - 12 Mar 2006 15:35
The bar staff underpour the drinks but at least the doormen aren't as aggressive as they are in Abacus
anonymous - 10 Mar 2006 00:59
A bar in the same mould as all the other awful places to drink in the city... And it seems to attract angry girls who don't like being asked not to push in at the bar... Not a fan
drunkmarv - 26 Feb 2006 19:24
Great bar - really kicks off on a Thursday or Friday night. This is definitely THE place to go in the city - much better than that abomination, Abacus, down the road. Only downside is that it's a tad expensive, but it's in the City, so what do you expect!
