glenfarg - 13 Apr 2015 03:58
Mooney didn't leave he was sacked by Pauline because his karaoke is so shit
Johnprowse - 4 Feb 2015 00:51
Dave Mooney had already moved on prior to the closure, he is now doing very well at the Grace's, an altogether nicer venue, where people acutally applaud the singers.
glenfarg - 2 Feb 2015 00:17
Glad to see this shithole has closed down and that Mooney has lost his job. Him and that fat hoare Julie Barclay can rot in hell
Johnprowse - 14 Jan 2015 20:12
Ooooo look, another review by the famous convict David Marks (franksinatra66)
We are just wondering how many profiles you have on here all slagging off pubs that you have been barred from? - Sad lonely man!

Williamiv - 17 Sep 2014 20:32

WoW !!
An ex member of the Beach Boys has been convicted of harassment because you wouldn't let him sing on your karaoke evenings.

Well wonders will never cease...
jimshoppenus - 21 Aug 2014 16:55
Oh dear Oh dear, David Marks (foxmulder757)

We honestly thought you'd learned your lesson after spending 3 months in prison and pleading GUILTY at the Old Bailey on 13th August for harassment against a member of our staff.
Correct me If We're wrong, but you are currently on bail until 5th September for sentencing, conditions of which are (amongst others) not to post on any social media. You obviously have broken this (along with the posts on the facebook account "John Prowse").
We honestly though you would last a little longer than 24hrs..... - Reported to police.
Williamiv - 21 Aug 2014 16:26
Stay well clear Of This Pub, Its full Of low Life wrong urns and Most of the Local area want this pub to be closed Down. Its a fuilthy Pub and Its the worst dirtiest Pub In the area Of Beckenham. Thats why It s always empty and no one would go in there if you offered them free, Plus theres a Police Informer and a Grass who runs the karaoke. Hes worked there for 5 years and Hes the reason why No One goes to his crap karaoke anymore.... Or the Most expensive shithole pub in the area...l. Just read their comments and they Just confirm they are the scum that Ive accussed them of being... Do Not Touch this pub or entertain it at all....
foxmulder757 - 19 Aug 2014 17:36
Though I'm not a fan of the William in general I have to say that Dave Mooney does a good karaoke. It is a pity the regulars largely ignore his efforts. I hope that he is rid of Dave Marks for good and all.
glenfarg - 18 Aug 2014 21:51
Well....an entertaining read of recent entries I must say - some sour grapes being trod here me thinks! Have lived in the area most of my life but can't recall ever having been to William IV though plan to do so to see a friend's reggae band (Dread Centre - fab groove by the way) in a couple of weeks and had a google to check location....and came across this. Pub sounds great....can't wait!! Oh and I'm vegetarian....why are there never any Root Veg Raffles eh??
janorama - 25 May 2014 10:08
Oh and we haven't served food now for 2 years

To "foxmulder757" well we all know you as David Marks don't we?
The facts are as follows.

1. You were barred from the William in August 2010 for threats to burn the pub down and harassment to two members of our staff.

2. There is currently a court order in place preventing you from entering the pub.

3. To our knowledge, to date, you have an injunction and currently four convictions in a criminal court for harassment against the aforementioned members of staff - Aren't you due to stand trial again in a few weeks at Croydon Crown Court?

4. Aren't you breaking bail conditions for using facebook? I'm sure the police would love to hear about this. Do you really want to go back to prison? How was your month in Highdown btw?

5. Yes, I agree that the pub is in need of redecoration but you're not likely to see it when it's done are you.

6. We are actually the cheapest public house in the area with Fosters at £3.20 a pint and Premium Lager at £3.70.

7. Judging by most of the other reviews, they are happy with the pub "Friendly and Welcoming" seems to be the trend. You wouldn't know how friendly the pub is though as you can ONLY drive past because you're barred remember?

8. As for the "next pub to be closed", sorry to break your bubble, but we are here to stay

As a footnote, enjoy your sad lonely life.

Oh. The meat raffle is every Sunday at 6.30

When;'s the meat raffle?
terenced - 14 Mar 2014 14:07
I used to go to the karaoke, but the people in there are negative, depressing and uninterested in anything except the meat raffle. Even when the singers are good no one applauds. Typical of Beckenham - the most unfriendly pubs in the whole of London... that's why I go to Penge, where people actually get to know you and have a laugh. Beckenham has an air of despair around it. A town which is rapidly going down the toilet, even though the inflated house prices down't reflect this.
glenfarg - 19 Feb 2014 22:08
Those Of You That Live In The Beckenham Area, avoid this Dump of a Pub as Its full of wrong urns and they are that desperate. Hopefully Its the Next one thats gonna be closed Down, they stick their signs on the pavement cos they cant drag you In there cos Its always empty, every day and every night... Always the same Pissheads and lowlife and apart from that always empty. Dont Take My word for it, Just drive past and Observe... also The Beer and Food Is expensive and they think they can con you into Lousy Karaoke and entertainment, so they Lie, the toilets are fuilthy and the bar staff are Rude.... Avoid this Pub at all costs...
foxmulder757 - 9 Jan 2014 22:33
I felt threatened from the minute I walked in, terrible. Signs on the bathroom saying police are aware of drug dealing on the premises. Definitely one to avoid.
law2097 - 6 May 2011 15:36
I have just spent a Saturday night at the William IV - they had a sound system called Toxic and they were great, playing all kinds of sounds including reggae which was excellent. They have a MC who really got the crowd going and a lady who spun the tunes! There was a friendly atmosphere and free food was given out to the crowd. It also lasted to 1am!
daisyg94 - 1 Feb 2009 15:39
You can see today that this pub has had a chequered past and hasn't been mordernised much. The carpet and wall covering looks 30 years old but it's warm and the staff are friendly enough.
I've spent a few Saturday afternoons in here during November & December 2008 with some friends and although the interior is dated and I've never seen more than 20 people in there the service and food is excellent. It has a huge projector screen in a semi-closed off area for major sports events and a few other plasma's dotted around with the sound off.
The pool table is never busy-which is a bonus. They advertise different events like quizzes and karaoke but I've not sampled them yet.
clueless - 9 Jan 2009 13:57
This used to be my local about 10 years ago but now they can't seem to do anything to turn this pub around. The staff seem friendly enough, the lager is fine and they always have something going on, be it a quiz or a karaoke or something. However, they could do with cleaning the toilets properly, they really stink. The crowd skews older, there wasn't a hint of trouble but the pub just feels... grubby.
crazyk - 17 Nov 2008 19:32
This pub was such a great pub .. love to just pop in there for no reason but the 2 manageresses that was there was more busy drinking and snorting coke then running the pub and staff was fed up doing there work and not getting paid for it, company took this pub back and good for them the new people is doing brillant cleaned the pub up and slowly the customers is coming back , which iam sure the elma lodge is "happy" about, the fridges is full which is nice to see again, just a shame a window is broken in the front of the pub and after 3 weeks nothing have been done to it yet which let all the hard work they have been putting in down.... go have a look at this pub now things is changing for sure .... there is hope
ladyfirestormy - 22 Nov 2007 20:56
A mate and I were the first Aussie Backpackers to work in this pub back in 1988. I've got some great memories of the place and last visited in 1995. I hope the revues are wrong because it was a great pub the last time I was in the U.K. and I hope it will be the next time I get to visit for a pint.
Belly66 - 12 Apr 2007 12:25
Its cheaper to drink in the West End. Horrible pub these days. Avoid !!!
FattusBlokus - 6 Feb 2006 15:01
bar staff look dirty when i ordered a drink from this
pub, they looked more dirty then the regulars and that says it all do not go in there
minxy5 - 8 Sep 2005 21:16
One word summation: Chav

That applies to both the Elizabeth Duke staff and the aforementioned Sun reading customers. It needs gutting and replacing with a pub rather than a chain imitation of a pub. Probably a great place to watch football and have a fight.
juliatheakston - 31 Jul 2005 17:54
I went here recently on a saturday night to try it out. There were four people in the whole pub. You know the sort, tattoo, a copy of The Sun and all wearing jogging bottoms. It used to be really busy in here on a saturday night a few years ago. But it has been decorated in the usual bland style, and has lost it`s individuality and charm. It is a unique old building, but you could be in a mock pub at Gatwick airport. It is surrounded by homes full of customers - but it is empty. Say`s it all.
