We moved into the area at the beginning of 2012 and thought the Victoria's decor needed to be updated, but as the food was so good (Caribbean) this was no matter. We just thought how lucky we were to have such a different array of pubs and great food an offer in the area. A couple of months later we went into the pub for another lovely meal to find the pub had completely changed its decor. It looked great inside with all its hanging chandeliers, low lighting and quietish music. Unfortunately the food menu was really poor, no decent choices and it tasted bland. I have recently returned and found the same bland menu and the music even more quiet than before, even less people sitting in it. Great looking pub, with lovely staff, but what a shame! Its in a prime location and just a few tweeks could become one of the best pubs in the area. Ah well for now I will have to spend more time and money in all the other pubs in the area. instead.

Came across this pub by accident while walking along the South coast from Brighton, we were hungry and looking for some food and weren't expecting anything special except maybe your average standard pub grub. The only thing that was average about the food in this pub were the prices, which were extremely reasonable. The pub has a Jamaican chef called Benjie who serves the most amazing Jamaican food. I had a storming, brilliantly spiced mutton curry with rice and beans, and my friends a superb jerk chicken and a fish cake, this wasn't your normal fish n chip shop fishcake made from god knows what, it was handmade, you could see the flakes of fish and it was delicious. If you're in the area, try the food in this place, it's great!. Nice one Benjie, keep it up!

Not much more to add to the last post.
Why six hand pulls but only two beers on?
Harveys Best and Old Ale which I tried and found quite nice @ 3.00 a pint

Dunno! Nice pub, nice staff....Limited ales (ale, Harveys Best) and limited food. We were three handed on Sunday lunchtime a fortnight or so ago and the bar was half empty (Grand Prix on the TV), but the garden was very busy and seemed to be eating Sunday lunch, not the Caribbean. Nice enough garden. Designated driver HATED the so-called coffee with something akin to milk! The regulars seemed OK if a bit in-your-face. If this was an offish day it'll be a good pub. Will go back as not really much else here. Sounds like a not good review but I don't want it to be. A choice of ale would up the mark so..........6/10

Briefly had bar billiards about ten years ago but it never really took off. Quaint atmosphere, reminded me of pubs in the Isle of Wight.
Was good to visit on a day out.

This pub is well worth a visit purely for the quality of its food, which since the arrival of a new Caribbean chef in summer 2009 is absolutely fantastic. Lots of traditional pub grub but also a great selection of Caribbean specials every day. And the Sunday roast is astonishingly good value, really succulent meats plus homemade yorkshire & a huge selection of veg, all for 7.95. Great beer too. This pub is now firmly on my list of regular haunts, I've been there numerous times in the last 6 months and the food has always been excellent. Lovely roaring fire in winter and for the summer there's a suntrap courtyard at the back. Highly recommended.

Less than 10 people in on a Thursday evening. Music also rather too loud...is this a feature of East Sussex pubs? Semi refurbed but ceiling and wall features remain thankfully. The 2 halves we had were nothing special.
Huge bowl of olives for 1.50 seemed good value.
