What a disappointment . The place is badly run , Staff not interested unless you are a regular , swearing and cursing. That also goes for the staff. Asked if the Manager was around and got told you got to be f*****g joking, we run this place not him , I left as quick as I entered
Not a Family friendly pub , Not a Friendly pub at all

Lovely pub with very friendly staff. Food is excellent and very reasonably priced. Greene King IPA and Ruddles on keg. Usually only one guest ale but well kept.
Best pub for miles.

loved the pub, went in with a friend and had a shared platter very nice. Lovely young man came and asked if my meal was fine. Felt very comfortable. Then returned alone one afternoon laiden with bags felt totally comfortable served by a nice young lady, and felt very welcome by all the young staff, made me feel my age which is very old. The only fault was how busy it was, but still managed to get a seat. have not tried the toilets but shall next time and report back!!

Its been revamped. Cannot make my mind up. High up tables, ordinary tables, then a cosy seat in the corner. Prices a little high, a night in here needs a lottery win.

Went in here for a lunchtime drink. Peaceful sort of pub with a very nice atmosphere and very clean. Had an excellent pint of Ruddles best. Didn't try the grub but from what I saw that too seemed OK. Will definately go in here again. Hope they don't put in a jukebox as it will ruin the place.

VERY GOOD FOOD FOR A PUB!! WELL DONE!

Probably the cosiest pub in the Eltham area, also include Sidcup in that. Prices a little high, it is dearer than all other local pubs. I like it because there are no TV's, or the constant smell of food, and you can talk without music drowning you. Cosy seating, and friendly staff, worth a visit.

Great for a High Street pub. Clean, good staff, decent beer, and friendly atmosphere. Perfect for an afternoon drink or evening out. Definitely the best pub in Eltham (OK - I know, the competition could be better .... but it is still the best).

This pub is a very good pub. Good ales such as Abbot and Green King are always available. Comfortable seating and friendly people. Well worth a visit.

A bit boring in here. Not much happens. The music is low, No Jukebox, No telly,. The locals are friendly, the manager seems very miserable. Seen a few fights in there.

The rising sun is the only pub in eltham with friendly staff, a great manager and a fantastic atmosphere. Events nights are all light hearted fun and there is rarely trouble. i recommend a visit... it's hard to find a friendly pub in eltham, but the rising sun breaks the mould- it's great!!

Just started working here. Have worked in a few in the past and this one is by far the best. Lovely people. Great atmosphere. Great staff.

I like this pub. I haven't paid a visit in quite a while, but I liked its interesting layout and compared to other local's, it's always seemed to be extremely friendly. Recommended.

Wonderfully well-preserved example of a late Victorian pub situated at the end of the high street. Mosaic entrance lobby, central traditional style horseshoe bar, etched windows, large ornate mirrors, fireplace, snug screens and some interesting displays of shells and swords (I just hope they are securely nailed to the wall!). The modern till, piped music and fruit machines are the main concessions to the present day. The rather standard selection of beers (Green King IPA and Abbott) is probably the biggest disappointment but then again, very few pubs in the area have any Real Ale selection at all. It can also get a bit smoky but this will gladly become a thing of the past from next year. Friendly staff. Pubs like this are now hard to find as intact as this and it is well worth popping in if you are in the area.

great pub !

the rising sun is clearly the best pub in eltham the old and young drink side by side and it is a great atmosphere the barmaids are helpfull an freindly the drinks are of high standard the food is great too!there is live bands on saturday and a very funny quiz on tuesday its great fun if u want a relaxing night out this is the place to be!!!!!!!
londongirl - 13 Dec 2005 00:45
The Rising Sun is now owned by Greene King. The good news is that (a) they now have two well kept ales on (IPA and Abbot - it would be good if they guest some of their other brands), (b) there's no smoking at the bar and (c) John the landlord still works there.

Looks mediocre, at best, from the outside but is suprisingly alright. Best pub in Eltham? Possibly. But then thats probably saying more about the state of the competition.
Beermeup - 30 Sep 2005 14:02
I work at the Rising Sun and its a great place ignore all the comments about untrained staff etc. thats absolute rubbish!! Come and see for your self the best pub in Eltham.

Suprisingly the better pub of Eltham town. Good beer and Good food. Service on the other hand is somewhat left to be desired. Expect to wait at least 5-10mins before the barmaid finishes her conversation at the end of the bar to serve you. years ago this was defenatly an old mans pub, but with the recent closure of some of the other pubs this has taken on a new younger feel. So much so, as on a Friday night you can expect to see a group of 15year old boys clasping their 1 pint of 'Nelson' between them. Overall the best venue in Eltham, Although, Wellies are a must in the Gents.

Nice Pub and good gunor - but the barmaids are ignorant, chatting at one end of the bar while 3 or 4 people wait to at the other! - If you are paying for a drink with a 20, then make sure to say "THIS IS A TWENTY" because believe me those swindling cows will give you change of 5 or 10 I know 'cos this happened to me every time!
Dave K Bracee - 14 Dec 2003 13:07
Looks nice from inside and out and beer good. Staff all seem to be ditsy teenage girls who are allowed to smoke behind the bar and drink on duty. Customers even worse

I lived there for 22 yrs and my parents Ann and Jim ran it for that time. It was a great pub for all the family and a right nice crowd. I believe it's a bit of a dump now!!!
