Much improved (and seemingly much busier as a result) on the ale front - had a pretty good pint of Hawkshead here. Friendly enough place.

Not sure about the last review, unless they have had a major change. This is cask marque accredited (I know that means little about quality) and had four ales on.
They allowed a sample and I had an absolutely perfect Allendale Wagtail English Bitter. Never seen this before but it couldn't have been better.
Front beer garden, where you can keep your eye on the time for the train station over the road.
Successful visit.

Standard kind of pub - more pub with rooms than hotel bar style. Friendly enough but no ale - only concession to proper beer was bottles of Jennings,

I had a couple of hours in Penrith to tick the 2 2015 GBG entries, first up is the large Agricultural hotel near the station.
It's 2pm on a Saturday and its not that full, a few locals drinking and watching the racing and a hand full of diners.
Open plan bar area with the food mainly served in the dining area up the step on the left. A fairly rear Victorian shuttered bar is home to the normal lagers, Guinness plus 6 hand pumps offering 6 different ales. 3 from the local Jennings Brewery in Cockermouth, 2 from Ringwood and an offering from Marston's. The Jennings bitter I had was very good.
Good service from the friendly landlord, well kept ale and a good location. A decent tick.

I liked the place, though it was very busy last night. The Snecklifter was in excellent nick.

Large Marstons pub next to Penrith station serving food and having rooms available. The ale range was all from the Marstons stable - Jennings Bitter, Cumberland Ale & Sneck Lifter plus Ringwood Best & Old Thumber. Service was quick and friendly and the Sneck Lifter was in reasonable condition. The interior is comfortable and there are high ceilings. Sky TV News was showing on the TV. Being a little busier than the nearby Gloucester Arms, this was a slightly better choice.

Marvellous name. Not the greatest looking pub from the outside but well worth a visit. 4 real ales on tap : 3 Jennings and Mansfield Bitter. Tried the Jennings Bitter and it was fine. I've eaten here before and the food was really good. Handy for the train station.

Very impressed. Found this pub driving into Penrith to break up our journey home. Nice pint of Jennings Bitter and the food was of a good standard. Very friendly pub in comfortable atmosphere. Will visit again when next in the area.

Top pub, top beer. The Sneck Lifter was spot on.

Great pub, just across the road from the station and a short walk from the town centre. We found it while staying at the Travelodge just up the road when en route to Scotland last December and spent a very pleasant evening there. Just been back to the "Aggie" for a family reunion at lunchtime - 5 adults and 2 teenagers.
Beer was in tip-top condition - a good range of Jennings' ales plus a guest beer. The food is excellent and good value for money (enormous portions). Both the bar and restaurant areas are comfortable and welcoming - real fires in winter too. Smashing pub.

Report from annual trip to the Lake District, for Agricultural Hotel, Penrith. Visit date: August 2009. Summary of visit: several beers from the Jennings portfolio were on offer; the bitter and Snecklifter were sampled both were on top form, especially the latter. Lunch was taken in the separate dining area, which was also excellent. The pub was very full, even at Saturday lunchtime! Highly recommended.

Ended up staying the night due to bad weather surrounding the destination youth hostel in the mountains - ah well it's a hard life! The Jennings range of beers is well worth drinking at any time but these were well kept and very welcome during the circumstances. The bed and brek side was spot on. The breakfast was bewildering huge and very very tasty. A decent pub.

Decent enough pub with the full Jennings range on tap. Always a good pint whenever I've called in. For some reason this pub just doesn't feel right to me. I can't quite put my finger on it but there's something. I'll keep calling in for the beer until I work out what it is !!

Just an excellent boozer. Dropped in for a quick beer before getting a train and the beer was first class and the manager a top bloke.
|
Beer is kept very well. Nice selection of Jennings beers.
|
Best pub in Penrith. Good Jennings beers plus one guest as well. Does good food, and has separate restaurant area. Beer is kept to an excellent standard though. Convenient for train station.
