Cheap and cheerful carvery which has become something of a Luton institution over the 50-odd years it has been open. The food is ok most of the time and they now offer breakfast which is reasonable. Sadly the service at the bar can be extremely slow and the place's pleasant surroundings is spoilt by the variety of dodgy characters that drink at the place and smoke / shout in the garden / moat area. If you need a family friendly carvery then it's not bad but don't expect the Ritz!

I took my daughter and 3 grandchildren for a breakfast treat, only to be told that the thirteen year old grandaughter would have to pay adult price, even though she only wanted a small breakfast.i found the service from the man who was taking my order slovenly.and worst of all when i knocked the managers door to ask why i could not order a childs meal for someone who does not eat much ,we could hear the man inside swearing with annoyance at being disturbed and he was not helpfull or nice in explaining why i could not have the child meal .all he said was well its our policy any one over 13 has to pay adult. i disgustedly left with my family and wont be returning.

Really pleasant pub, lovely location by the moat, decent beer, and the food looks to be good value but I haven't tried it yet.

Agree with previous comments that the staffing levels are a bit low in respect of timely service though - not the end of the world however.

To be recommended, particularly in this area where good pubs are pretty rare.

This place is more chavvy than you can ever imagine with appalling service to match.
Service at bar was like slow-death. Decor is poor and furniture was a mish-mash of bits that did not match. Food service was also incredibly slow and uninspiring.
THIS IS A CHAV AND PLEN HELL-HOLE; Avoid like the plague.

Must say the photography of the pub blew me away - just passing through.

had a midweek carvery meal here recently with my daughter and reckon its got to be THE best mid week value meal for miles!! Dinner and a beer around a fiver and lots of it cant be bad. Have already recommended it to others and will be back myself.

I have always enjoyed going to this carvery, nice surroundings - they did it up after a fire, and great for family get togethers. The prices are always good and have always found the food to be great value. Surrounded by a moat full of huge fish and ducks which the kids and adults love to watch - it has some outside seating. I would recommend it, especially the early bird prices for the carvery before 5.00pm

Carvery great value and quality quite good too! Beer range uninspiring. Surprisingly nice setting. Historic with lots of old photos etc.

Bar staff weren't the best trained, or most polite. Prices were ok. Food was awful, blatently from frozen, chef serving was appawling. Nice atmosphere though.

We have started going regularly for carvery before 5pm, marvellous value, and I don't have to ask him what he wants for dinner! But when there isn't a queue please have a bell to warn the chef we are waiting!

Great big barn of a pub - two bars/restaurant rooms the size of football pitches.
If you like screaming kids running around then I recommend Sunday lunchtimes.

Who posted that picture? It looks like a set for Scooby Doo.

My friend and I went here a couple of weeks ago and the carvery food was gorgeous. Everything was fresh and cooked well and the roast potatoes were almost overcooked which is how I like them. I also had some chocolate "melt" cake which I couldn't fault for 2. The atmosphere was homely and my friend and I didn't feel rushed at all. I recommend it to families and friends and couples wanting a quiet evening/meal out.

Can't really knock the carvery. Decent plate of decent food for about three or four quid.
