A real down to earth, traditional pub, no food. Very friendly and lively. Well kept beer served with a smile. Has become our regular haunt since moving to Abingdon. Many characters here generally in the bar with a quieter snug behind the main bar.

This is a drinking pub - no thrills and better for it. Landlord and lady very friendly...

There's never a dull moment in the Punchbowl. The locals always seem to be having a whale of a time whenever I pop in. Everyone is always very friendly and chatty. The emphasis here is very much on drinking and enjoying yourself. There is a quieter snug bar at the rear for those wanting a little more peace and quiet.
The building itself is one of the oldest in Abingdon and faces directly onto the stunning County Hall in the Market Place.
Only one real ale usually available (GK brewed Morland Original). I understand from talking to the licensee that from next week he will be selling Carlsberg for 1.99 a pint as a Credit crunch special. I think the locals will be partying just that little bit louder as a result !

Went in at about 1700hrs on a Friday and it was quite busy with workmen - lots of high vis vests about! Good pint of Ruddles and friendly staff. Nice little pub.

Popped in about 2pm on a Saturday for a "quiet" pint and the place was packed. Clientle mostly aged 40-60 all looked like they'd been in there since opening time, if not earlier. A bit zany - friendly enough atmosphere, it was just like walking into a pub at 10pm on a Saturday night, except it was only 2pm. And that bloody awful "Crazy Frog" noise was playing on the juke box at about 100 decibels. Morland Original in good condition (2.30), but only stayed for one. Kronenbourg was 3 a pint, but I don't drink that anyway. Small old pub in the market square, I'd probably like the place if it was my local (except for the Crazy Frog).

A very genuine pub. Doesn't try to be anything it's not. Nice beer, rumoured to be Green King's next victim

Unusual locals, the front bar is known locally as "The Star wars Bar"
