Traditional pub with 3 cask ales. A decent sized courtyard with seating at the back.

Not been to Bolton for a few months but thought I'd try this place out again ad it has now gained cask marque status (which doesn't mean much but I wanted my scan). Anyway the ale had improved with 3 ales on rather than the one that was on last time, and they were all surprisingly good. The outside of this place doesn't reflect the inside as it is modern inside with the exterior looking fantastic. Much improved in my opinion.

Absolute dive. Where do I start?? Went here on a recent shopping trip for lunch. Food was awful. I mean, i wasn't expecting much as it was just a small pub so i obviously wasnt expecting 5* Gordon Ramsay food. But what i got, i wouldn't even feed to my dog! The chicken was hardly cooked, the baguette tasted like it had been left to go stale and the chips?? No thank you! Soggy, cold and greasy.
As I'm not much of a drinker, i ordered a coke. Well... It was drinkable but barely, it was so watered down it was hardly worth the £1.20 paid for it.
Now, as for the staff and general atmosphere, the manager was rude and seemed too interested in the regulars to even care to say hello. He was also standing around on his phone the whole time. Rude! The pub also had an awful "dead" smell to it. I felt so uneasy I just had to leave. Needless to say I WILL NOT be returning. I don't recommend this place 1 bit!!

Another Bolton shithole. The pool table greets you as soon as you walk through the door, usually surrounded by pondlife who can't string a sentance together without spewing the F word through their rotten and missing teeth.
I recommend drinking Newcastle Brown in here, is a good hefty bottle that will come in handy later.......................

Substantial well cooked, reasonably priced lunches are a plus. When I visited last week only 2 real ales on offer, but as one was Theakstons Old Peculier I was happy.

Not as good as it used to be but still a decent pint and has a reasonable atmosphere dispite destroying its interial history.Still good for a natter with its regulars and probably has the least gathering of town centre yobs.

I called in yesterday, on my first visit to Bolton. The place has a beautiful exterior...Stained glass, moulded cornices.. Filled with the promise of an interesting interior, good beers, and a bit of history...
How disapointing. Obviously, as the comment below suggests it has been recently been "refurbished". Gutted of all interest would perhaps be more fitting. I think they might have borrowed the decorators and their new furniture from the nearest Whetherspoon's... Most disapointing and bland.
But on the other-hand, it was busy on a dull grey afternoon, so it is obviously not damaging their business. But I was still very disapointed...

Argh! what have they done to this place?
Anyone been in since the refurb care to enlighten us to it's current state?
