user reviews of the Purbeck Hotel, Swanage

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A very unusual building almost castle like in appearance. It has a very small bar in the centre which doesn't sell any draught bitter. I had a bottle of Purbeck Brewery Fossel fuel which was rather warm. The seating is variable but some of it is comfortable. Not worth a visit.

Mark, any news on the reopening? We're going to be in Swanage in a couple of weeks and it would be great to see the place open again!

The Purbeck is under new ownership and will be reopening in the summer of 2010 featuring beautiful boutique rooms and a great new bar serving locally sourced food and beer, as well as a great wine list.

Spent a weekend visiting the drinking establishments of Swanage and surrounding areas and this was, without doubt, the worst pub we came across.
Beer was undrinkable, barmaid rude.
Avoid at all costs.

I have to say this is my favourite pub in swanage. Maybe not the "Poshest" of places but my partner and I have always enjoyed it. We will be sad to see it go!!

The worst Pub in swanage with out a doubt. The owning mother is the most obnoxious person I have ever met. Stale London Pride and microwaved fish seems to be there speciality. Lord knows how there still open

Correction:
My comments on 18 July 2007 were intended for The Purbeck HOUSE Hotel which is also in Swanage - not for this establishment. We never even visited or knew of this place! My fault, although admittedly the two place names are very similar.

Soon to become yet more flats, apparently.
Never been a favourite pub of mine. London Pride has always been sitting in the pipes for the afternoon - yuck.

Really nice hotel, we enjoyed a very pleasant stay there a couple of years ago, & were always made to feel very welcome. Good food, and large comfy rooms. The bar it has to be said is not one of its finer points however - about a 3 for that.

my mates went in earlier this week and bought some Bud when they drank it it was off nearly 14 months yes 14 months out of date they asked to change their drink and was told by the landlord he was allowed to sell it and he refused them they asked for their money back so he chucked them out, great aint it.

This was my pub through the years 1951 to 1959 and Saturday nights came alivewhen the rugby team came in.
Have been back 2003 to find the character has sadly changed due to "updating" ARKERS
