CLOSED. Now The (horribly expensive) Brickyard
Number11 - 9 Aug 2015 13:25
Recently re-opened after a major refurb and re-branded as a cocktail bar called the Brickyard. Expensive.

Hi, I am Abi and my partner is Guy, we took over the Spotted Bull on the 4th January 2012 and so far we think we are going in the right direction to change the pub and it's previous reputation!! We want to get back that community pub feel and make it a place you can enjoy again.
Please feel free to come over and check us out some time soon.

Don't like to be negative on these sites, but have to say we are delighted that sonia and nathans stay at the Spotted Bull was so brief, we can start using the pub again now. lets hope the new landlord can pull back some of the other regulars that used the pub when jilly and dennis were there (and hope his roast potatoes are as good, weve really been missing our spotted bull sunday lunches)

came in on the saturday night before xmas , it was dead, beer choice was a Tring beer and two other boring national beers , was hoping for a Hophead as previous poster, ive looked at their last pub on BITE and see that has mates posting for them too. You have alot of work to do here as the pub is quite scruffy and not close enough to town to get the punters in. Hope it goes well as it would be nice to have an alternative to the other ale based houses.

Having heard that this pub was under new owners (which is a god send), i visited with my wife on Sunday for dinner. We had an amazing roast at a great price, sat in front of the lovely open fire. The new owners have done really well, having new bar fitted, it being a lot cleaner than before, and not forget having some lovely ales on, including Surrey Hills Shere Drop & Dark Star Hophead. What a lovely pub, lovely meal and lovely people.... will definately be back next week with the dreaded in-laws!!!!

Recently taken over by Nathan and Sonia from the CAMRA award winning Jolly Coopers in Epsom (see 2012 GBG). Surrey Hills Shere Drop, Tring Jack 'o Legs and GK IPA. believe they are planning to expand the beer range and get a new food menu. Friendly locals pub, decent garden.

Called in here on Saturday on the way to town for a bite to eat and found a very busy pub serving food. We had a proper roast beef dinner, ( Sunday lunch on Saturday night) Great food, at a bargain price. Good piny of IPA and a decnt white wine. We will be going again next week

Beer good, food OK, low marks as sitting in a beer garden full of dog crap, and having to watch the dog do more ruined things a bit!

I sort of knew this place was here but wasn't sure if it had closed down and had never visited, then I came across it by chance. Always willing to go the extra mile for BITE I went in. It was a Sunday lunchtime and was incredibly quiet, just a couple drinking coffee and reading the Sunday papers, which hardly 'supports your local pub'. Two hanpumps, Pride and GK IPA, ordered a Pride and it wasn't right which I told the barman. Probably as it's the first out he told me then pulled through some more and offered it to me, it was still not right and I got a pint of IPA without any arguement. This was at 2.45pm Sunday afternoon so it probably shows how much beer they turn over. I drank it and ordered another as I felt it was a pub that should be supported. The star attractions are two dogs. one of which is a beautiful white hairy thing. A pub that I thought had closed, I'm glad it hasn't and will try to call again. It's a bit 'out of town, as far as St Albans is concerned but it is a proper pub.

Stumbled on this pub last Sunday. Great food and nice local atmosphere.

I quite liked being called "dear" by the barlady, but this is really an old folks' pub and we were totally out of place. The London Pride was OK but nothing special.
Back to the Verulam Arms, lads (again).

For years this was a gay pub but no longer the case. Had a pint here recently - empty on a saturday night probably tells you all you need to know!
