user reviews of the Red Lion, Lindfield

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Seems alright - went in the summer and they have a huge beer garden, plus a big room out the back so can't imagine it gets too cramped. On the down side they're prone to serve others when letting Guinness settle - wouldn't be a big deal if they didn't consistently forget to pour the rest unless prompted! Also we were in there on a Saturday evening (about 6pm) and there was already a lad vomiting in the urinals...

I usually only get to this pub about once a year but visited it twice over the Easter Holidays. Seems to get everything right. Good choice of beer at a cheap price, reasonable food, nice staff and live football on tv without it spoiling the overall feel of the place

I'm pleased to say that this pub no longer seems to be at risk.

Mitchells and Butler have seen the light and are no longer planning to ruin my local - whopeee.

Absolutely superb. Good down to earth, comfortable proper pub with excellent food at sensible prices. The staff are so helpful and attentive. They had run out of mash which wasn't an issue to us but because they hadn't realised when we placed the order and we had to reorder they were so apologetic and offered us deserts or coffee on the house. Now that in my book is exceptional service, especially when we made it clear we weren't at all concerned. The food was delicious and amazing value for money

This pub has a spectacular garden so it's great for a warm summer's day. In fact, the pub itself is rather large so there's plenty of room for everybody. It's in a good position on the high street and it's fairly bright and airy, but I've always found that the barstaff are pretty unfriendly. Sells a limited range of ales and in general tends to cater for the lower IQ beverage drinker.

Used to like coming here when they had bar billiards - a good many years ago.

THIS PUB IN ITS CURRENT FORM IS AT RISK

I have been frequenting this establishment for a period of 20 odd years. During this time I have experienced a few momentous events - I met my wife here, I visited on my stag night, I now bring my children here on a weekend and they play with the landlord's young daughter whilst mum and dad chat with friends.

Mitchells and Butler have applied for planning permission to make major changes to the pub which in my opinion will have a severely detrimental effect on the pub. The regulars are aware of the proposals and are 100% against them.

Having read the planning papers, it seems to me that head office want to turn this pub into something that it is not. This pub is a community pub frequented by an extremely diverse range of people - part of the rich tapestry that make up traditional country/ village pubs. The consequences of the planned changes are that a well respected and well liked landlord will possibly lose the home he has occupied for 15 years where he has brought up his children, the youngest of which is only 7 years of age. Mitchells and Butlers seem to think they can turn the pub into some kind of food orientated pub - all I can say to M and B is that you may win a few food customers who come in once a month and spend 50 but you'll lose the large number of customers who come in EVERY night and spend 10 - 15. Its not difficult to do the mathematics.

M and B, please think again!

Lovely food - very comfortable atmosphere - music at rear and pool table. 2 always Heated smokers area - wonderful staff. Manager's really genuine. Great place for an enjoyable evening. BEER is not expensive and the range is very well thought out from local Harveys (well kept) to London Pride - always a good pint whatever you have. Comfy sofa half way through to sink into after a hard day at work. Great mix of punters, very relaxed - never any trouble. Well worth a visit if local or out of town.

With Harvey's at 2.20 and Greene King IPA at 1.99 a pint, this must be one of the cheapest pubs in the area. However, the beer quality (I only tried the Harvey's) was only average

Comes a very poor third out of pubs in the centre of Lindfield (I don't count the White Horse, it's a restaurant). Bland, chainey and soul-less. Do yourself a favour and cross the road for some great real ale and charm in the Stand Up or walk up the High St to the Bent Arms for a more authentic village pub serving better food.

Quite busy for lunch yesterday, to the extent that I popped over to the Stand Up Inn whilst waiting for the food rush (& small bar queue) to quieten. Returned to a good pint of Harveys, there was another handpump on offer but I dont recall what it was, sorry.
Attractive rooms either side of a large central wooden bar, enormous beer garden to the rear.

Great village pub especially during the week when its quieter. Busy when sports are on. Yummy bar staff compliment further. No phone reception so ideal for a sneaky one...

I really enjoy the quiz nights on Sunday and the fact it takes up most of the evening, never really do very well though,Beerstastes good and the staff are brilliant!

Ignore the girl above who obviously is jealous of the attractive bar staff, I visit this pub regularly and there is never any trouble in there and all staff are friendly. This pub is The Winchester of Haywards Heath, (Shaun of the Dead)

Nice pub with a nice atmosphere, although when doing the quiz on a sunday please turn it down - not everyone wants to participate!

don't go to this pub if you like to be spoken to nicely, or you want your custome to be valued!

Good pub, split into 2 sections. Big screen tv for sports fans. Pool Table. Occasionally crowded with college kids.
