Popped in for quick pint as we haven't been there in ages to find that it's changed hands yet again. The interior has been smartened up and the bar moved again. We didn't eat but the couple next to us had their snack bowls - one cheesy chips with bacon (£4.75) and the other nachos with cheese and jalapenos (£3.75) - which looked really good and very generous portions. The menu also looked tempting. Perhaps could do with a couple of comfy chairs but otherwise looking good. Service was friendly and efficient and the beer good(two real ales available). Will definitely give it another visit in the near future.

Went there on a tuesday evening as saw that it was under new ownership
arrived about 6.45 it was empty we were the only people apart from the chef and the waitress in the place.
Firstly it said outside 2 courses 9.99 the menu's were bought over which for main course i thought was expensieve for a pub between 10-20 with most items being in the higher end of the scale i then had to ask the waitress about the meal deal and she said oh yeah sorry i forgot about that then bought a tiny piece of paper which was grubby with food dirt.
The starter was good and was prepared quickly , but to get the waitress attention to get another drink i had to bellow across the room as she was embroiled on her phone.
the main courses were awful the liver was overcooked and tough and my pie was awful and just full of bad cuts of meat that were full of fat and it gave you that horrible fatty flavour in my mouth with actually resulted in me being sick later that evening.
and the desert was just a shambles the crumble was swimming in birds custard it could still taste the powder and the top of the crumble wasnt hard or browned.
I paid my bill and hastily exited.
wont be going there again and will actually go out of my way to tell family and friends to not go there honestly probably my worst restaurant experience ever

FOLLOWING A COUPLE OF GOOD REPORTS FROM FRIENDS AND KNOWING IT TO BE UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP MY FAMILY DECIDED TO DINE HERE THIS EVENING.
WHAT A SURPRISE ! TRANSFORMED FROM A TIRED NEGLEGTED BOOZER TO A COSY AND COMFORTABLE RESTAURANT IN A SHABBY CHIC KIND OF WAY. THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS AND THE SERVICE VERY FRIENDLY AND ATTENTITIVE WITHOUT BEING TOO FUSSY. THE 2 ROARING FIRES WERE THE FINAL TOUCH.
THERE WAS A LARGE PARTY IN THE "SKITTLES ALLEY" NEXT DOOR AND THEY SEEMED TO BE HAVING A GREAT TIME.
LOVELY EVENING AND THOROUGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Very slow service they ignore requests they don't care for.
avoid theme evenings they are like a third rate very noisy disco and the dancing creates safety hazards!

This pub has been done up inside and is no longer a pub! It is nice to look at though. Had a meal here last night, and range of drinks is poor, kids menu is not the best and the food menu is well above its station. This was a lovely pub for families and walkers, they are trying to turn it into something it's not. And to ask for money upfront is dis trusting, let alone rude, it is also very over priced, and to put it blatentl you get more food for your money in a McDonalds kids meal. Would not recommend

Had a great meal here in Feb 2010 - the atmosphere was great with lovely decor. The staff were friendly and efficient. The menu and wine list were good and according to my husband ( a beer connoisseur!) the beer was excellent. The food was outstanding: well presented, finely cooked, delicious. A lovely place to go.

Under complete new management and style - more restaurant. Went with a friend for dinner last night - good service and good food. Hope they do well

I have reported the previous review as they are facually incorrect. Hoepfully they will be removed and this great pub can get on with being a good place to visit

Amazing comments - especially as the pub has been closed for 2 months. Has had some decorating done, and new owners. Fine when we did a visit on Saturday

I have just been to the Golden Pot. An aroma of fresh vomit was prominent, there was a hostility I've only previously experienced whilst posted in Basra, and there weren't even any norks on show. I would rather be eternally dammed and eat hot coals with Satan than drink here.

It's been a little while since I attended this pub, and having sampled other hostelries since, I believe this is simply one of the worst in Hampshire.

This hell hole makes me physically sick. I'd like to reiterate, I will never return. It's over a year now since I visited it, and I'm still traumatised. DO NOT GO!
SnookerBear - 11 Jun 2009 12:15
I have just woken up in a cold sweat thinking about this hell-hole. It will haunt me forever.
SnookerBear - 27 May 2009 19:05
On three recent visits the beer and food were good, the staff obliging and the toilets acceptable. We shall return.

Don't know what these guys are talking about, Go there all the time and its great, staff are friendly (never been abused) do agree that the pub needs to open longer though but that is solved by a simple phone call! also 5 bad reviews in one day? sounds like one annoyed person, but thats just my opinion!

Toilets had not been cleaned since the hot weather had begun, hygiene standards are appalling. I wish I had never had the misfortune to stumble upon such a rancid germ-infested abyss.

Advice: Get Health and Saftey in an the incumbent squatters out!

Very poor - I should have stuck with the can of stella I had walking to this pub rather than throwing it in the bush outside. Fat welsh man should have been the indicator that this pub was naff. Despite chef eating food on the bar they said they didn't serve food. The Gentlemen Jim was an Oasis in comparison!

Pylon.......how many had she ?
frosjadson - 21 May 2008 12:20
Disappointing! No food, hostile welcome from the resident drunks and poor decor. Beer was ok though and the young barmaid had fantastic tits. They were probably worth the walk through a muddy field in themselves to be fair.

Pub rating 2/10
Nork rating 9/10
pylon_hitter - 21 May 2008 12:18
Disappointing. Looked quaint but lacked character. Beers were ok, but the place was shut at prime times and there was no food (despite advertising to the contrary.) I would not travel out of my way (which it is) to visit.
3D_lion - 21 May 2008 10:31
What a ridiculous place. They had no food, were threatened by the barmaid's father and when we returned (only because we couldn't get a taxi to pick us up and take us somewhere else) on the Sunday evening, would you believe it, the bloody place was shut.

Great pub for sunny days. Well equiped garden for children. Beer and food are good.
purpleronnie - 7 May 2008 03:07
New landlady and landlord Liz and Barry. Beer very well kept. A very nice Budwar lager. Menu getting
better all of the time. Well worth a try if you are
ever enroute between M3 and Alton.
Cavan - 9 Jan 2008 12:24
A safe bet for food or drinks. Slightly dated interior refurb a couple of years ago which looks like it was hit hard with a can of 'paint and grain'! But the food and beer are excellent. Function room available too. Recent change of landlord I think? But have eaten there since and was still good :)
