First port of call, on my recent visit to the city after coming out of the train station.

Was really empty apart from one customer and the barman. Pint of stout I drank from the Orkney Brewery was great.

Couple of days later, I arrived at midnight and the place was heaving, with live music on offer. Great atmosphere too.

Great wee pub... sometimes dead quiet (great for a quickie when you get off the train) and other times it's pandemonium and as it's so small it can be a bit of a squeeze.. great atmosphere all the same. If you want to try an "original" pub in Edinburgh then this is worth at least a pint of your time.

Pleasant wee place to enjoy a pint especially if Scotland are playing.

Saw one of the funniest pub incidents in my life here. A group of youngsters trooped in and all headed to a table in the corner. After much discussion the elected one approached the bar to place the order. Before this was even uttered the bar person had identified the collective youthfulness of the group and invoked the law. The elected one then reported back to the group who then made for the door. At which point some of the regulars starting singing-
"youre too young ,youre too young". A salutory lesson.

First time in Scotland and first pub I've drank in in Scotland!! The place was very busy. Only 1 real ale but I was drinking Lager anyway!! Staff were attentive and polite. Great atmosphere. When I come North of the boarder again I will drink here. 7/10 from me.

Great pub,old and grotty with lots of character and characters.Always busy at weekends, music variable but after a few pints what does it matter!!!Only down side is "stupid" tourists complaining because it is not done out like an IKEA pub.Hope it never changes.

Jimmy Corkhill's comments I can echoe. The 'Heb' was just like that about 15 years ago!!

'Let's do the Time Warp again!!'

Had a similar experience recently - aforementioned lamenting of stinking jakey piss head Farty McBawsack surrounded by drunk spastics 'singing' along to some depressive sub Burn's pish!

Downed pint and left - a common thread?

this pub is WEIRD,i went in one night, all of the locals seemed to be teuchtars listening to an old piss head sing an old scottish folk song very BADLY and out of tune, they loved it all the same.
My friend and I found a table in the corner, but when we begun our conversation we were met with a chorus of Hsssshhhh!! from the sheep shaggers who were propping up the bar arse kissing Old Farty McBawsack.
We downed our pints of stella, and went next door to the Doric.NEVER AGAIN.
