My Digbeth crawl was orientated stongly toward the heritage pubs listed by CAMRA such as the Anchor. When discussing such a night out with the landlady of my B&B she mentioned the Spotted Dog. So, when I stumbled upon it I dropped in and was so glad that I did. The interior was full of character and dimly/warmly lit although its ornaments and artefacts seemed random and without any particular theme (not that they have to be, just telling it as I saw it ! ). Friendly, efficent bar staff and I was gobsmacked at £2.10 charge for my (very nice) pint of mild. Heritage price at least!!
A lovely, warm, welcoming, atmospheric pub. A must visit on any Digbeth crawl.

Rather enjoyed the on-line spat between reviewee and licencee.

I'd have welcomed a classical performance on my Saturday afternoon - all quiet on the western front.

Nice decor and lovely pork pie!

Popped in here on Tuesday, which is Jazz night. This is a great pub in Digbeth.
2 roomed bar and an equally fantastic beer garden. Decent beers on and some are discounted on Jazz nights. Friendly bar staff. Holdens Black Country Mild £2.10, not discounted.

Excellent Irish pub with a range of ales and a mild (only one cider).
Will return. Yes I will yes.

When we called on Saturday evening the pub was very busy with the post-football crowd and we were struck by the wide variety of customers as well as their, and the staff's, general good nature. It's a very friendly place to be, even for we strangers who were invited to dip into a large bag of excellent local pork scratchings. I have to agree with a couple of other comments - a greater ale range would be nice but the Ansell's mild was the first I had tried for many years, and was very good. There is an extensive and unusually pleasant smoking area. For me, this is a top place for a beer or three, only slightly let down by the limited choice.

Nice. Pleasent pint of Ansell's Mild (a rare spot these days), lively (in a good way) on a Friday night.

Only the beer range disappoints in this otherwise convivial, atmospheric and interestingly laid out back street boozer. If you're lucky enough to visit on a sunny day try the pleasant and quirky beer garden, as you wonder just why there have been attempts to curtail the Dog's entertainments activity to pacify the new crop of apartment dwelling neighbours - if indeed the stories that abound are true. A great place to begiin or conclude a Digbeth crawl; an even better place to spend the night. A Digbeth legend that resists resting on it's laurels. 8/10.

10th and final pub on Weekend pub crawl before curry in the Balti Triangle. Lovely smelling food coming from the BBQ in the garden even if it is November!
This pub had a great family feeling about it and a decent garden for more warmer days. Good selection of beers including Ansells - Mild.

First visit in 12 years, and the first person spotted has a shaven head and a neck tattoo bigger than Kerry Kings'. A traditional Irish boozer, decent Guinness, Ansells mild, real ale for 2.50, attentive staff, trio of diddymen playing Whiskey In The Jar and other Irish standards - but not drowning out the conversation, comfy seats, dark lighting, candles in wine bottles on the tables, old biddies twirly dancing to the band. My mate said the only thing this place was missing was Peter Kay (in Brian Potter mode). Recommend the place.

Rather unspectacular looking pub from the outside, noticed a large covering of ivy on an exterior wall......greenery in Digbeth?!!
Has all the trappings of being an Irish pub but that doesn`t seem to dictate the ethos of the place. Match days, lots of blokes who look like typical fans but without the scowling and undercurrent of possible violence...i.e. friendly and with braincells, geezers!
A very cosy looking pub (cushions on the highstools!) couple of real ales - 2.50, top Guiness........
Must be one of the nicest pubs in Digbeth or even the City centre, excellent.

Friendly and cosy, like stepping into someone's front room. A couple of real ales on now, as well.

Student pub where the ridiculous getup of the patrons has to be seen to be believed. Friendly staff though. Lager or nothing.

I worked in this pub 10 years ago when I was based in Brum and return frequently whenever I'm back in the Midlands, whether for a quiet pint or for family and friends parties. It is a constant welcome home, the regulars have not changed.

A real mix of people frequent this pub and the last time I was back I popped in for a swift drink. The familiar old irish crowd were in the back room with the trad music playing (age range between 20 - 80) and in the beer garden there was a reggae band, a barbeque and relaxed young, glastonbury style crowd.

Really friendly family run pub with good choice of beers. Great staff and nice beer garden which can be hired for parties etc.

I really like this pub, I just wish it was open during the day a bit more. Nice beer & nice surroundings. Good for watching the rugby.

On a cold January night, and having been ignored by the ignorant staff in the Old Crown We hit the Spotted Dog. A warm pub with polite staff and a decent pint, what more could You ask after a hard days work?

Very friendly family run pub. Service and beers excellent. Good for showing Celtic games and gaelic sport (saw them put a Derry City game once for 2 punters!) although I've watched an England friendly here too. Worth avoiding at 4:45pm on a Birmingham City home matchday unless you are a Blues fan!
