i read the comments on this pub and decided to see for myself if it s as bad as most make out.in all fairness i thought it would be fun to get a true feel by visiting on various days over a month. its true to say there are familiar faces but thats cool because its there local.some nights are quiet but then so was most other pubs when i left..thursday and saturdays were the best for me as they had live jazz band playing in the main bar area.there was new faces and very pleasant cheerfull atmosphere.i didnt try the beeer but there was plenty of spirits i enjoyed.:)if your going to visit try a thursday, saturday for the jazz or sunday for the roast dinners, weirdly thats the only food serving day?????? mystery !!!! because the food was very home made.

Weird, what it this place trying to be. Whatever ithe aim is, it's failed. Disagree with the comment below about decent beer. If you're looking for real ale this place is poor. There's nothing to recommend this place by, avoid.

Quirky sort of place, more like a members club than a pub. Decent enough beer though and a friendly atmosphere, you're more than likely be engaged in conversation by someone. Wouldn't rush back.

For all those who think Thirty is old....you will get there one day and will really be lucky to find a gem like harry smiths.I had a great day here on good Friday and found eveyone great company.People our age also know how to have a good laugh without having to quaff loads of alcopops(lots of large vodkas and sodas though)Keep up the good work lads and see you next time I'm in St Albans.xxx

Ideal for a Friends Reunited get-together: it's populated by lots of pot-bellied middle-aged folk pretending to be young. (But the beer guts give the game away, and the men look even worse, hee hee!)
On the brighter side, this place is well-run and the service is very prompt and amiable. But the whole experience is rather cheap and cheerful. There are better drinking and eating joints nearby.

Avoid. One out of ten. Very peculiar, it's like a school open day gone wrong, lord knows who will be at the table next to you.

Dire - with the most bizarre mix of punters you've ever seen.

Time Loop Factor Ten! The atmosphere here was quite good in a funny sort of way, but I felt really out of place. The customers were smart but definitely in their 30s and 40s, and everyone was really, like, INTO the 1980s! At 8pm the gaffer behind the bar dashed over to change TV channels to an 80s "Clenched Fist Rock" programme, and we were entertained by Alice Cooper and Belinda Carlisle (who??). So I didn't stay long last night but might return in 20 years; I expect all the customers will still be here, and might have reached 1990, but don't bet on it.

harry smiths allways has a friendly atmosphere, its a small place but very cosy, with its seperate lounge area which can be hired out for private functions, and plenty of seatin to enjoy a meal or if you have not tried one yet, then the famous harrys burger is a deffinate must.ive visited harrys over the world cup,at christmas, new year an many other functions and private partys an i really m ust say the atmosphere and sevice has been absolutely cracking

This place should be ideal for a 40-something bloke like me, who still thinks it's 1986 rather than 2006. But I just can't relate to anyone here at all: it's full of "suits" (both sexes) talking about house prices, interest rates, football, cars and money generally. On the plus side, the service is good and the bistro looks interesting, but - as others have said - people come here to show off. Drinking and eating are secondary.

Bit of a dump popular with older types who want to impress. Also too small and dated. The Tudor, Lloyds and Casa offer much more for a night out.

This place is described as a hangout for those who dont yet realise that the 80s is over yet. I.e. yuppies from days of yore. I'm not quite sure who goes in here but I certainly dont. If you want a comparison think Barneys but a bit older.

This place seems to have been hit hard by the competition from places like Barney's and lloyds. Nevertheless, it still has a good atmosphre most of the time. There seem to be a lot of regulars who visit here, and if you get chstting with them they are all very friendly. Food seems to be a little up and down unfortunately though.

Its a great place with a friendly atmosphere. In the week you get a local atmosphere, you still get the same nice atmosphere but it is busier at the weekend. The lunches and restaurant food are not to be missed! You won't get a better lunch in St albans

A bar with something to offer everyone. Very friendly, good mix of people. Local atmosphere with a bit of life during the week, then watch it come alive on Friday and Saturday.

Basically a grown up version of the Vinty. Full of people with attitude - if you're a guy looking to pick up, you'd better be driving at least a TT or you'll not be considered. Overpriced, loud, and unfriendly. Avoid at all costs

Great potential but dire DJ's playing sooo badly, bad attitude from staff & management.

brilliant atmosphere, good music and packed most nights.
