A pub with a focus very much on food. Opted for the Fullers Steel Blonde Ale over the Brakspears Bitter which was hoppy, light and citrussy - a taste almost out of season for mid-February. An all-encompassing wooden decor which hemmed in the many diners attendant on a Wednesday night. Surprising amount of single young females which lessened the blow of trying to explain football to my non-football-following drinking companion.

Friendly and very prompt service. Food OK and reasonable value as you would expect from the Vintage Inns offering. Not great ale choice, but luckily it was a hot day and I was on my bike, so opted for the Grolsch Blond. Suprisingly drinkable.

This is one of four Vintage Inns pubs in this area, the others being the Firecrest (near Wendover), the Duck Inn (Aston Clinton) and the Bugle Horn (near Aylesbury), and in my view it's the best of them for atmosphere. The food isn't for gourmets, but as chain pub food goes it's not at all bad. The beer available at any given time varies, so any predictions are likely to be out of date, but there's usually something palatable.

Same chain as the Firecrest, the other side of Wendover, with the same merits and drawbacks, but a slightly better choice of beer: London Pride and 6X.
