What a cracking pub! Can't believe the comments on here slagging it off, they are complete tripe. Currently sat at the bar sipping Wye Valleys Butty Bach, also on tap is Stairway to Heaven and Pedigree. There's a range of ciders, bottled and draught and all the other usual stuff, also including Eliotts Winter Warmer (mulled wine). I've just had a meal (horseshoe of gammon) which was delicious and huge! More than value for money. The staff are all polite prompt and generally lovely. The head man is Dennis who is a mix of grumpy old man and stand up comedian. All together this is the nicest pub I've been in for a fair time. Better than the soulless dull commercial out fits that appear to spring up in town centres these days. Top marks to Ye Olde Windmill (without their free wifi I'd not be able to post this), a good pub, a great atmosphere and superb beer.

My recommendation - try it and I guarantee you will like it!

Good food, excellent range of ales which the staff are more than willing for you to 'taste' before buying and a lovely warm atmosphere. The staff were friendly and welcoming and warned that we would have to wait an hour for the food to arrive but it was worth waiting that long.

Worth a trip

This pub has always been a firm favorite in terms of quality of food and a welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, this does not seem to be the case anymore..we visited early in the week and were initially the only guests. We were treated with indifferance and requests were treated as if they were too much trouble. One member of staff was attentive but the unfortunately other staff openly seemed to treat us as if everything was simply just too much trouble for them. The food was ok, but not of the same standard we have experienced previously. All in all, we would not visit the pub again but would probably choose somewhere like the rag or the malt shovel.

A very traditional country pub, the does good food. The outside looks fine, though the car-park is a bit worn.

The interior is traditional, with its wooden beams and tables. The service is excellent, even offering me the choice of glasses so i don't end up with a C***ling one and indicating that i have been seen and will be served asap.

Three real ales; Wells Bombardier, Pedigree and a Roosters. As its an endangered species, i had the M&B MILD, which was great.

Always happy to come to this place

having visited this pub frequently it never fails to impress. I took 24 colleagues for Xmas lunch and the freshly cooked food was outstanding, bar meals including fresh fish and massive steaks are cooked to order and always mouth wateringly delicious.
come back stuffed to the brim

The best home made giant battered onion rings ever. I always have the 8oz Sirlion for less than 8.00. You get the steak, onion rings and side salad on the plate and then a bowl of chips on the side . Lots of space to cut the steak etc. This would be 10/10 if they also did home made chips like the malt shovel. The chips are nice but only the frozen type.

This place is a gem! It sells really good beer, but gets the crowds in to eat. When I say eat, starve yourself for at least 24 hours before you go to dine. The menu is brilliant and the food has always been good whenever I have visited. It is known for the food side of things and gets busy, so people tend to get there early to get a seat! (I jest NOT!) The steaks are amazing and American portions at VERY reasonable prices. 16oz rump for 8.95. Onion rings the size of flying saucers!! I am making myself hungry and am salivating as I write. Gotta go! Off for a bite to eat.
