This bar is opposite The Manchester Academy and was rammed before the gig on Monday. Had a couple of pints of Deuchars IPA which were good. Had to sit outside and watch the busy Oxford Road go by! Overall OK for a pre-gig pint.

Real ale range isn't great, but at least they do a couple, Deuchars was OK. Opposite the Academy

Good selection of beer, but it is ian absolute rip off. I went in there recently and couldn't hear myself think in the back garden because some muppet was blaring out incredably loud noise from a sound system. And this was at 3 in the afternoon on a sunday! I doubt I'll be going back soon - try Sandbar!

Used to be a regular (daily basis) for a couple of years but wouldn't be seen dead in the place now. The owners seem content to let the place rot and, given a guaranteed trade of uncritical students, use the place as a cash cow to finance other ventures.

The food's gone way downhill, the bitter's usually undrinkable as most drink lager or bloody coffee and you're looking at 3 notes for a pint of the lager.

A plus is the staff are usually excellent.

Slightly pretentious gastro-pub type establishment opposite Manchester uni. The beer's nice, but is pricey and if you're on a budget you'd probably want to visit sparingly. It is worth a visit, however, as the beer is varied and well maintained.

Good choice of beer (continental and cask) however cask ale is not always kept well. Nice beer garden and upstairs areas but seating downstairs is cramped to say the least. Food can be inconsistent and beer is overpriced too. The sandbar is a better alternative in my opinion.

A good pub for sitting in with a group of mates. The coversation will always flow with the wide selection of beer, decent food and comfy seating.

Never been of an evening, but the coffee & bacon sarnie deal in the morning is the best around.

excellent range of beers & foreign lagers...Quite an `upmarket`student pub...with good solid seating & tables upstairs.More of a cafeteria atmosphere leading out to the back yard/beer garden downstairs...
Good food as well...not a bad place at all.

Nice atmosphere, a good alternative to the usualy grotty student bars, happy and friendly staff, a refreshing change.

Does a wide range of beers, but when I went there was a DJ who was playing awful music, not my sort of place...

since Kro2 opened the food menu has fallen, the same menu is at both Kro Bar and Kro2 - Never bought drink from Kro Bar - dont drink - well didnt, but appears to cater for [the students, or none-students] who want to look posh.

Despite previous comments, this place is v popular with both Mcr Uni students, post grads and staff. Ideal for a pre-gig pint if you fancy a non-standard lager.

Utter waste of space, unfortunately. The choice of beer is reasonable but the lines need a good cleaning. The food is hideously overpriced and decidedly average. Everyone in there has a snotty attitude, especially the staff. A shame.

great range of beers, both real ale (i'm not a carma Tw**) and lager, the food is good but can get very busy, but this just shows how popular it it, very nice to sit outside in the beer garden on a summer night

Not as good as the Okasional Cafe.

This place is quite poncey, and the prices reflect this. It attracts 'that' type of student as a result. The beers are well-kept, and the bar menu here is continental and interesting. The layout is a little odd, and the place can end up cramped on busy nights. There are no TVs here though, so no rowdy football crowds, thankfuly.

rubbish, poncey, pretentious

Tends to be ridiculously full of students during term time, but if you can live with that, this place is a real quality bar. A good selection of beers (including Budvar on tap, and you've got to love that), decent, reasonably priced food, comfortable sofas upstairs, two outside seating areas and quite a bit of space for a small bar inside make this one of the best bars in Manchester.
