Now known as the LC. Didn't go in as I had had enough of the kids bars in the area.

Went inabout 10pm on Weds night,a pub quiz on and enjoyed the atmosphere ,but not many in.Good pint of Jennings Snecklifter.Only drawback was having to go down 2 flights of stairs to toilets.

Totally devoid of customers at 9.30 on Sunday evening (when other pubs were busy). Front door wedged open despite being cool outside.

walked in... and then I walked back out again

After visiting this pub with my family earlier this week i can honestly say i will NEVER be going again! the management are plain rude! they don't know anything about good customer service! the foods alright but the beer is way overpriced. I wouldn't bother if I were you.

Here is a copy of an email which was received by The London Regarding comments left by TR Wolf on the 8th and 11th of August 2011
It is believed that this letter was posted by his friend.
Message - Hi there. No doubt you've received a few complaints about a 'homophobic' manager at your restaurant. I'm just writing to let you know that the offended person is, what is known on the internet, a 'dramawhore.' He constantly complains and moans and is never happy unless he's crusading against something or one that's offended him. Sadly there are also people who think the sun shines from his arse, and will complain about a topic that doesn't concern them.
As a bisexual person, and someone who works in retail, I can say in confidence I don't find what they did to be homophobic, nor would I think it fair if the manager in question lost their job over this trivial matter.

-Sincerely Thrash(Fraser Ainslie)Wolf

From the outside, it looks more like a restaurant than a pub but it has an excellent range of Marston's beers. The lounge is deep with the bar on the lefthand side. Seating is more geared to the eating of food than relaxing with a pint but was average.

aleho me again. just been to my fav pub in llandidlino, still as good as ever ales this time Sneck Lifter, Hobgoblin, Pedi, Old thumper, Batemens xxb and the normal marstons bitter. Great stuff.
Funny thing happened this weekend I was in having a quick snifter when a big lardy dah posh person walked in and started receiving free pints of bitter is only the posh bloke from cask marque god he must have the best job on the planet, he gets free beer, sticks his probe in it then drinks the stuff check the empty glasses why i not sure(no good blimin empty) tries drinking them through his nose, think he is trying to drown himself. What a way to go. writes out a bit of paper and then goes to next pub I WANT HIS JOB.
still bangin at night with live singer, great pub.

I enjoy a meal in the London quite often and the music has always been the same - it was Petula Clark this lunchtime when I was there. Can't say it would ever cross my mind to complain about it, it's a pub, not a restaurant and you have to expect anything from classical to heavy metal, depending on the sort of pub it is!

Btw, the London is in Llandudno, which is in Wales, so can we ditch the references to Englishness please!

Can't say that I warmed to this place. It seems to have an identity problem as its a cross between a cafe/real ale pub/nightclub. Bouncers on the door are never a good sign. Once inside it is long & narrow. 6 handpumps but nothing imaginative & disappointingly no local ales. Very expensive - a pint of Burton Bitter & a small glass of rose was 6.17. Its funny how these pretentious places think its acceptable to charge over the top. No problems with the staff like previous posters, but then again I wasn't willing to stick around long enough.
happytyskie - 20 Aug 2010 10:26
I implore you to ignore the 'review' by 'HappyWolf'. They are obviously a friend or collegue of the venue, determined to try and make me out to be a liar to cover their backsides. They are making stuff up, and omitting other things.

Hi All Regarding the comment posted below. I was there when this incident took place so let me tell you the truth.
A so called gentle man made a very rude comment about the music which was playing in the pub (he referes to it as a restaurant but I think the london is more of a pub) He said the music was too old, schmaltzy (whatever that means) and he thought the management were trying to make a Frankie & Bennys atmosphere in an english restaurant (pub) further he said that there shouldn't be any American music playing in an such an english venue .

The young lady in her defence merely explained that the 50' and 60's music playing proves to be very popular with the age group who use the pub at that time of day and quite often people ask for a copy of the CD's playing at that time.

The gentleman strongly disagreed (I can't repeat what he said)

Then the pleasant young girl simply pointed out that he had the freedom to choose whether or not to use this pub when he entered through the door, and that if he was not happy with the atmosphere and the music playing he could have made his decision at the begining of his visit by leaving and finding somewhere else where he would feel more comfortable.

The girl made no mention towards the sexuality of anyone in the pub.

The gentleman then became quite nasty and insulting towards the bar person, who calmly took it in her stride and suggested that in view of his verbal insults that he should leave.

In my opinion the gentleman was trying to pick an arguement with a 20 year old girl (one wonders why) (meaw) and no matter how she tryed to please him he was not going to accept it.

The London is a very busy venue and has proved to be very popular in the locality, Ive been going there for 20+ years and never seen it as good as it is now.
I feel quite sorry for the girl in question, but I guess you can't please em all.

Had I been in charge I would have changed the music in question from Elvis's Lonesome tonight to YMCA by the village people just to try and appease him and his husband.

I just had a very nasty experience at The London Hotel, Llandudno. My partner and I (we're a gay couple) were having a meal at the London today (8.8.10) for our 8th anniversary (and 1st wedding anniversary). The whole time, a young lady behind the bar was giving us odd/dirty looks.

After we'd finished the meal and paid, I thanked the girl for the meal and suggested that she inform whoever is in charge of the music that I didn't think it suited the venue, as it was very loud schmaltzy 1950's American music in a very English style pub. This girl then laid into me about how other customers like it, and how maybe it's me and my "type" that don't suit the venue and then "BYE!" loudly at me. I told her that I didn't mean to offend, I just meant that as it was our anniversary, hearing "lonesome tonight" was a bit glum, she said that she didn't care about my "gay anniversary", and again added "BYE!". I said that I found her rude, and she snapped back telling me I was rude for "moaning about the music".

I asked for her name. She refused. So I asked for the manager, she said "you're looking at her" with a smarmy smile. I asked who was in charge of her and she said that her mum and dad are the owners and so complaining to them would be "a waste of time". She again refused to give her name despite admitting to being the daughter of the owners.

I told her that I felt she'd spoiled our visit as we'd had a nice time so far, she said that "you spoiled your own visit by opening your big gob, and that's not all that's big on you" (which is a reference to me being a fat guy), I asked what she meant and if I should note that down. She then said I was "attacking her" and she would call the police. This was achieving nothing, so I left.

I've E-Mailed Marston Pubs and most sincerely hope they deal with this unpleasant woman and her nasty demeanour and homophobic attitude (especially as the pub's site claims to be 'gay friendly').

I will NEVER visit this venue again, and will actively discourage everyone I know from ever trying it.

Of all the pubs on our tour, by far this was our favourite. Saturday night was excellent with a live female singer we stayed for several hours. This pub had the best choice of Ales and also many of our group said the best looking barmaids., all sisters we believe. They were all very friendly and added to the enjoyment of the evening. Excellent pub.
clivetigerdavis - 19 May 2010 19:39
excellent. the barmaid that served me was friendly and served the pint with a smile. i thought the old thumper ale was not short . but she thought she had served a short measure so filled it up excellent.the pub was very clean.only one downside with the pub was it was one room pub and very new i like a older type pub
forestwood - 15 May 2010 17:53
This pub is just simply SPOT-ON if the london wasn't there in LLandudno my wife and myself would not travel from nottingham once a month for the weekends. The London makes our weekend.Great food. six ales and 30 to 40 wines by the glass.
gets very busy on weekends
Thanks for the London
ronald_mcdonald - 25 Apr 2010 20:05
Ale -luvly jubbly Hobgoblin, Pedirgee, Sneck lifter, old thumper and another 2 but cant remember.
Chilled out atmosphere no arses we stayed there from mid afternoon to throwing out time eat lunch and evening meal was pretty damn good and cheep (we is 11 of us ) didnt experience any short changing or rudness only complaint was I asked for sleeping bag and an early morning pint of sncck lifter but they made me go home, so sad.
Levi_roots - 19 Mar 2010 19:53
Beer - acceptable
Food - usual microwaved mass produced stuff
Service - rude and aggressive. (OK we all have an off day, but don't take it out on the patrons. That's bad business sense and the trade doesn't need to shoot itself in the foot.)
stevewarrentours - 8 Mar 2010 15:59
OOOHH whats occurin, whos the dick slaggin off my favourite pub.
Me and I have been drinkin there for years, Almost as long as Chris has been pullin behind the bar.
We both (me and I) have seen some changes there but this is by far the best, almost as good as my friend Tom (Jones that is) Im not one for name dropping.
Foods great. Beers great. And the toilets well must be bigger than my house back in ponty
I gos down the London on the weekend get completely lashed then gos to the cricket ground and falls asleep on the green green grass. Normally wake up with some dog (hairy one) (all look the same in Llandudno) lickin and sniffin me and I, some times I gets it first then me.
Thats what too many pints of Hobgoblin does to you, beers in the London are dangerously tasty. Never had a problem with my change, or even getting served.
Look out for Eril and John looks like hank Marvin on steroids. Probably the ale he drinks (owd Thumper I think)
Best night this year was New Years Eve I dropped my Kebab. Thats before I got to the green green grass.

huw_parry_J - 2 Mar 2010 22:05
STELVIO...........YOU ARE ONE SAD ARSE!!!
The london as it is known locally is by far one of the best pubs in the area.
Excellent food, good hospitality, an extensive wine list, and a party atmosphere every weekend, not to mention the 6 superb Cask Marque ales.
Marstons Burton, Marstons Pedigree, Hobgoblin, Old Thumper, Sneck Lifter, and another which the name slips me (fuzzy Head). But then I guess you must be further down the food chain than the normal appreciative ale drinker.
All I can say is this, The london is my favourite pub in town. (Go there you will See why)
and lets hope the landlord has not got your address as he is full of suprises.
Aurther_Guiness - 26 Feb 2010 11:58
If you really want to visit this Pub, I'd seriously recommend that you make a record of your bank notes serial numbers. I'll never ever visit this Pub again after my recent experience and would recommend The Kings Head.

Here's my letter to Marston's which received a feeble reply from Craig Roberts confirming that the tenant will review his CCTV. The tenant confirmed this to me soon after the visit and I'm still waiting.

'16 December 2009

Mr Ralf Findlay
Chief Executive Officer
Marston's PLC,
Marston's House
Brewery Road
Wolverhampton WV1 4JT

Dear Mr Findlay

The London, Llandudno

It is with disappointment that I have to draw your attention to the most unsatisfactory behaviour displayed by one of your tenant's employees last Saturday, 12 December 2009.

I regularly drive weekend coach tours from London which overnight in Llandudno and have on the last three trips visited the London for a drink; Last Saturday I purchased a pack of cigarettes and a Lottery ticket from a nearby convenience store tendering a 20.00 note and receiving a 10.00 note in change. The 10.00 note remained in my hand until I visited the London and ordered a pint of Hobgoblin at 2.99. To my surprise, I only received 2.01 change. I drew the Barman's (Leon) attention to the missing 5.00 and he refused to accept that I tendered a 10.00 note unless I could quote the note's serial number! I demanded to speak to the Manager (Trevor) who could not appear for at least another 30 minutes. I politely and very calmly gave Leon one more chance to resolve this matter and mentioned that if I did not receive the missing 5.00 note, I would then report the matter to the local Police. He refused to concede and stated that as I was behaving in an aggressive manner, he removed my pint, refunded part of my purchase and ordered me to leave the pub.

I was so incensed with his behaviour and before visiting the local Police station, I popped into the local convenience store where the assistant confirmed that I did receive a 10.00 note in my change only a few minutes earlier and she could confirm this fact the following day from their till's CCTV recording. This incident was reported to the local Police who unfortunately considered this a civil matter and therefore could not take it any further. The Police officer did say to me that he would visit the London later that evening to draw the Manager's attention to my complaint.

On my return to London I telephoned the London to speak to the Manager who was
unavailable so I left my telephone number to return my call. I also sent a polite reminder via your Corporate web site 'Contact us' facility and to date have not had the courtesy of a reply.

I appreciate that in a cash based business, change disputes occur on a regular basis. However, there's a right way of dealing with customers which clearly was not displayed last Saturday.

Web based forum comments for the London are not exactly glowing!; Another negative comment would not look good. I trust that you share my concerns and will take whatever action you feel is necessaary.

Yours sincerley

Richard Leeson

numnutsaleswigger - 1 Mar 2009 14:23
Brilliant Pub, loads to choose from on the wine list. Lots of ales, too nice to drink sensibly . Bar staff and door people are also nice, they help me down the steps at midnight. I go there every weekend as the live entertainment and dancing is the party of the town. Only down point is the place is packed full of people. Brilllllliiiiiaaaannnnt. I also eat there every Saturday if I can get a seat
Aurther_Guiness - 18 Jul 2008 22:10
I have been in this pub many times, and not once have I had a hello or a beer from the owners, even though they recognise me and know I have spent a considerable amount of money there.
I suggest the owners go on a customer service course because I am not alone in my opinion. This is a nicely decorated pub in a really good location, shame about the people running it. I will never drink there again.
clairebear26 - 7 Jun 2008 14:17
Obviously the previous comment comes from either someone who has recently being barred, or from someone who does not recognise a good pub when it slaps them in the face. Or is it the same person who has slayed most other venues in this area. As for the prices, well they are in line with most other quality pubs in the area. There are on the other hand a couple of pubs in the area that sell cheap beer, but these pubs are occupied by disrespecting drop-outs of society, or people who just want to get drunk on the cheap,. This person is probably one of them.
As for the London, Well probably one of the best in town, good well kept ales-6 in all. Some 19 wines available by the bottle at 9.95. A a very extensive menu at very reasonable prices
They say people vote with their feet, well this pub is packed to the seems at the weekend, with lots of self respecting people. But then the door security are there to keep any disrespecting people at bay.

miserable landlord terrible welcome crap overpriced beer awful entertaintment gobby cockney landlady ...other than that not bad toilets!!!
anonymous - 5 Oct 2007 22:33
Came here after recommendation from a friend. Must endorse his quote to me about real ales correctly served by staff who know the product they are selling. Nice change that. Saturday night was great with good entertainment and enough staff to keep everyone efficiently served.(Wetherspoons take note).Highly commended.
trisha1953 - 22 Sep 2007 15:04
Pleasantly surprised on my return visit. Obviously trade has improved considerably with 3 bar staff on and a wider choice of ales. Quality of beers excellent. This pub certainly deserves a better saving than 6.6 as I believe it is now on a par with the Kings Head. Sadly there is no disabled access but I believe this is due to a negative thinking local council. Recommend a visit on your next holiday in lovely Llandudno,
jmensa - 20 Jul 2007 15:40
In reply to reynard's comments about Bouncers on a Saturday Night.
This is a Supper Pub and a great place to be. Offering 6 Traditional Ales, 16 Quality Wines by the bottle (9.95 a bottle), 12 Malt Wiskeys, 4 Lagers, a Smooth, and the normal Guinness.
The Quality of entertainment which is live on every Friday and Saturday night is very good
The pub is a very busy place and attracts 100's of people in an evening.
So therefore door Staff (not Bouncers) are there to ensure the safety of all who use this brilliant venue.
