"Not a family friendly pub "Smithy, really, shedloads of ankle biters running around inside and out....! Good beers on, TT Landlord, boltmakers and Abbott, so not so bad. The landlady seems clued up on the states of the beers as well. Food looks good too...if you want to visit a pub only for the entertainment it can offer your kids, then you're missing the point maybe!

Topsy turvy beer garden, nothing for the kids. It claims it's a family friendly pub; it's not!
New staff are sarcky and haven't got a clue. Land lady is definitely scrimping on the basics, and the food is not worth the money. The local area really needs a gastro pub, with a nice beer garden, kids play area, inviting decor, modern toilets and FRIENDLY, professional staff ...don't think The Sandmartin deliver on any if these at the moment.

A decent pub with a nice outside garden in pretty quiet surroundings.

The food is pretty good and not too costly.

Always fairly busy, especially in the summer.

This pub has really been turned around!
The food's not the usual pub grub, much nicer.
A couple of lagers, Aspalls cider and a bonzer 'Rockin' Rudolph on tap....all round, it's been turned into a good, honest boozer!

I've just moved into the area and started drinking at the Sandmartin and never seen any trouble, all the bar staff are very friendly and are quick to serve you.

Great choice in their menu as well and good beer garden to sit and enjoy in the summer.

Prices not to bad either

OH MY GOD!!! Where has Anne gone? What has happened to this pub since she has left. I live locally and this pub for years was always full of trouble without fail every weekend fights and trouble outside our door step!! Then Anne took over and in the 2 years that she was there she turned that pub totally around .

I have just come out after waiting 10 minutes to be served on a filthy sticky bar which was decorated for christmas with the most tacky of decorating imaginable!! Unlike the class of last year!

The staff have slipped back to there old rude ways and the trouble crowd have got back in , i can safely say for me and all my drinking buddies that we will no longer be drinking here no way at all!!!

Please Green King wherever she is ......GET ANNE BACK!!!!!

This pub looks absolutely great from the outside. It's in a nice location and it's a nice looking building, so how can it be such a terrible pub?

The locals are the personification of the word 'scum'. Only go in here if you're training for a career in UFC and you need some fighting practise. The alcohol is disproportionately expensive considering the surroundings you have to endure to enjoy your pint. Just avoid at all costs on a friday and saturday evening. Went there for new years eve once and unsurprisingly the night was ended prematurely by the police after another fight.

The manager seems to have a sense of humor bypass he never smiles or speaks.

No atmosphere.

Recently moved to Chafford Hundred and the Sand Martin is defiantely my favourite pub around here.

Was only in there a couple of nights ago speaking to the landlord and he was explaining that he has now gotten rid of most of the trouble makers as hes trying to make it a nicer place to be.

Oh and the beer garden at the pub is gorgeous!

Only visted once, time to get a pint was around 10 minutes waiting time. If your a guy then get your missus to go upto the bar.

Karaoke seemed fun. Didn't have any problems with clientle.

The Guinness was fine.

I and most of my friends in Chafford think this is the rough pub. Everyone i know has had an experience in there of rough laddish behaviour. Me and my boyfriend had to endure x6 oldish guys being virbally cruel to a young girl in there about her hair.

sticky carpets/tables, clicky and bad atmosphere!

Update.....
The service in here was always a little 'iffy' at best, but a new and improved service has arrived in the shapely form of Jo! She's a first class 'barmaid', keeps an eye on whats going on, is always smiling and takes no crap from any of the punters...long may she stay in the Sandmartin.

Recently refurbed, a good eclectic mix of people, bulders, businessmen and a group of office girls when I visited..it was in the afternoon.
A variety of beers and lagers on offer, reasonably priced for this area I guess...on the whole , an OK place.
