6 walkers had an excellent lunch here on Saturday 15th and the Harveys beer was also in top condition.

A tremendous pub which retains its traditional rural features, and maintains a drink before food focus. Harvey's ales were kept exceptionally well and the missus enjoyed an Addlestone's cider. A very freindly barman who kept us chatting throughout our visit. Definitely one of my favourite pubs in East Sussex

an excellent little pub.

Enjoy drinking here occasionally, Addlestones cider on my last visit. Traditional old style pub, hasn't changed decor in years. Not my favourite for food but popular with many.

This is definitely the best pub in Newick where I live. The beer is excellent, the landlady (Beryl) welcoming, the service efficient and the style very traditional.

This is a nice cosy, friendly pub with a warm welcome and well kept ale. The Harvey's is excellent as is the London Pride and now there's the wonderful Harvey's Old as well.

The staff are friendly and have a ready smile. OK, the food isn't the best in the world but it's perfectly good honest pub fare at a reasonable price.

Anyway, it's a proper pub, not a restaurant with a bar in the corner so I'll keep coming back.

Nice friendly pub, well kept beer plus cheerful bar staff. They usually have a nice open fire burning so a nice place to park your freezing self during the Autumn and Winter months. They do offer food which looks impressive, is on the expensive side and not particularly remarkable. Its possible they've had a change of Chef as their food service used to have more of a flair about it. We had a home made burger and Cottage Pie; both tasted a little on the bland side.

A quick and opportunistic top-off was made here on Saturday morning, early-doors, en route to the rather fine Old Spot Farm Shop a few miles outside of the village. Things were already in session, with 2 or 3 chaps having taken up positions at the bar, enjoying a steady drink - a starter of ten I rather think. The barman was a friendly sort of bloke, and pulled me a superb pint of Harvey's Old. Fuller's London Pride, and Harvey's Best were also on, with a 4th clip reversed - but I suspected a further Harvey's offering. No problem with this, provided they are kept in good form, and the beers here apparently are.

This is a village country local, with all the earthiness and informality of its urban counterpart, but with a little more community focus, a little more charm, and a far more appealing setting. Not an absolute corker, but as an antidote to some of Sussex's perfumed and ponced-up fooderies that pass themselves off as pubs when strictly speaking the term has virtually ceased to be relevant, the Royal Oak will provide a splendid tonic.

Excellent character pub, good beers, very friendly atmosphere with good service. Excellent, good value food served quickly. And David (aged 3) loved the strawberry ice cream!!. Recommended pub for any relaxed and easygoing occasion. Many thanks

At the risk of repeating my comments on the Bull across the road, I find the beer here (Harvey's) in good condition. And yes, you can sit outside overlooking the village green here too!

It's unusual these days to find two pubs side by side in the same village which are equals. In the eyes of a visitor, anyway.

Still, this and the Bull present a good opportunity to compare and contrast the output of Harvey's and Shepherd Neame.

A two minute walk from the Bull Inn and more of a locals pub buzzing with conversation. The area directly in front of the bar is a narrow corridor which can make it difficult to move around when its busy. To the right is an eating area and theres another seating area to the left with a pool table. Atractive exterior and outside seating for smokers. Ales available and a couple of ciders and perries.

A wonderful, homely country pub. I would recommend youre prepared to wait a bit for the food when you go there but don't knock it till you try it. The food is lovely and very well priced. I ordered the fish in a cheese sauce which was simply gorgeous, followed by a lovely homemade desert. One of the nicest pubs Ive been to in a long time. The staff were friendly and a very good atmosphere. Overall I would, without a doubt, urge anyone to go there.

Good local community pub. Busy even on a Tuesday when we went in for a family meal. Slightly pricey menu but good food. Very nice atmosphere with log fire & friendly staff. Would recommend for a visit.

two weeks ago i had one of the best vegetarian meals (in a pub) in a long time and both my partner and i were very happy.
two days ago we went back for some of the same outstanding food and to our great disappointment the chef has been sacked (56 year women sacked three weeks before xmas, with NO forewarning!)and in place is the most disaggreable food i have ever tasted (boygotte the pub) (i self have work many years in europe as an Chef de cuisine, and this pub is totally below standard)

A friendly local pub, recommended for its good quality food and beer, and we were not disappointed. A beautiful interior complete with stone fireplace greeted us as we entered. Friendly staff served us excellent food and beer with a smile. The food was very reasonably priced. Presentation and quality was excellent. It was a great night out for me and my friends- i would strongly reccomend it.
