This looks like it could be a great traditional looking pub from the outside.
Never actually got to go in but Martock is such a lovely place that it's needs pubs like this to keep it's character.
Such a shame.

Punch now want to close it and sell it to some God-botherers (allegedly) Facebook group set up to save it. Apparently the pub is now busy thanks to the efforts of Tony Lock, well known for turning pubs around. This won't stop Punch I'm sure.

OK. I parked the car on Thursday lunchtime and went to the side door which seemed to be stuck, and after a few attempts at opening it I was about to try the front door, when the pimpleton sitting at the table alongside said "I think it's closed".
"Does it ever open?" sez I. "Well it was closed yesterday" came the response.
[sob]
I give up.
The sign outside announced "No Closure. Saturday 8 PM".
Too much like hard work, so I went elsewhere.

This pub re-opened at 1800 on Friday 5th June with new owners. Not tried it yet, but it's certainly heartening to see a reversal of the current trend of pubs closing weekly.

Decent enough pub but nothing to write home about - friendly service, nice atmosphere, beer OK, food average just about sums it up.

Hooray - a pub that provides a non-smoking area (strictly enforced!) right next to the bar. Good ale selection, too.

Nice traditional bar area, ales and lager plentiful choice - menu is fair and food palatable - dining available in special area or bar rooms. Don't have much tolerance for smokers though
