user reviews of the Foresters Arms, Egham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Fairly boring selection of ales (three of them), but in good condition. Hardly anywhere to sit inside, but several outside tables. No food, but you're welcome to order a takeaway from elsewhere. The friendly barmaid and convenience for the station makes this historic pub a good place to meet up at, before moving on elsewhere.

Ray, do you really have a foot like a hobbit?

Just had our wedding reception in the function room at the Foresters and not only was it great value for money, Ray and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and they went above and beyond by putting up some decorations for us. The room when we arrived had been transformed from what it is usually like and looked beautiful! The food was fantastic and there was plenty of it and it was no problem to have some sandwiches for the kids and nibbles for the adults when we arrived earlier in the evening. They made the room available from early in the morning for cakes and decorations to be dropped off.

The pub has a comfortable and friendly atmosphere which a lot of our guests commented on, this was also my experience when popping in before hand a few times to sort details and pay deposits etc.

They were very accomodating and happy for us to provide our own music and made sure that the few bits that got forgotten at the end of the evening where kept safely for the next day to collect.

We had the best evening, thank you so much! Would definitely reccomend.

Further to my previous posting I thought I'd give this pub a second chance. Popped along with a friend for a drink but the place was full of students and the beer was very very warm. Nothing against students, just didn't expect this place to be that sort of pub. Reiterate my comments about Ray not being very nice and also quite intimidating. After previous experience did not order food and stuck to packets of crisps. Shall not give a third chance due to low quality upkeep of beer and interior.

Hi guys, I think you will find if you do your research the following postings seem to come from the same place.:
attthebar, britishairways (1 and 2) guv, guv 1, guv 2, laughingduck, pubgirl, unbiassedofegham, and kevin carter, caskaleandfood.

This is a couple of very sad bullies, who can only enjoy life when they are trying to inflict conflict and missery.
Please feel free to check it out for yourselves, follow the postings, we all know who it is. !
Personally I pity them, they must have had some fucked up life, to turn out like this !
eghamlocal - 21 Sep 2011 20:49
Thats against my religion atthebar thanks anyway.
But reading your last post only a very sad person wants to hurt someone`s business and who ever is trying should wind their necks in and get a life.
Peace be with you.

dementer,if any off you ever came into this pub you would see that ray is not a thug(see previous post)he is a very hard working landlord, trying in these very hard times too keep the pub going, yes the food is not as good as i could be,but the drug taking as mentioned before is a complete lie,by some idiot who has a grudge to bear, more than probally a certain steve hill, look at the crown in egham and see the posts about him,he is barred from all of the pubs and clubs around here, and is out too ruin everybody that has barred him.sorry if i have upset anybody but i got very angry at such a false post, the foresters is a nice pub and the landlord ray is a nice guy.....and he keeps the fosters cold.,,,,,i have no conection too this pub apart from being a newish regular customer. 6/10

With an Oike like atthebar as a local well said surrey drinker.
No rating given.
Dementer - 22 Aug 2011 18:55
same as not one decent word to say about any pub in egham, just move,or sit at home with your tins of cheap tesco lager.
atthebar - 22 Aug 2011 17:30
At least atthebar has confirmed the sort of clientele The foresters attracts - seems a place to avoid.
surrey_drinker - 22 Aug 2011 17:13
your postings, are a complete and utter waste of bites space, not one comment on ale,go fuck yourself pilgrim.
atthebar - 22 Aug 2011 16:48
You sound like a gem attherbar Not
ThePilgrim - 22 Aug 2011 12:38
great idea, fuck off and stay indoors.

... Left speechless by this pub. Because of just how bad it was. Tacky multi-coloured pricing stickers all over the bar, full of regulars (regular yobs ('ow you doin mite? Nah we nicked it last Friday not Satuuuurday')) who are not the most welcoming and a distinct look of a place where substances on the wrong side of the law are tolerated if not welcomed.

These things can be tolerated if you keep yourself to yourself. But the guy behind the bar, (Ray?), well he is nothing short of a thug. But worst of all we looked at the menu and thought 'wow, a local pub selling food at prices you would expect in a Weatherspoons' but we understood why the food was so cheap when it arrived. Greasy, overcooked, poor quality and probably from Iceland. Disgusting.

Beer was clear and tasted okay, if a little bit warm. All in all, will not be returning. Just moved to the area, will try the other pubs which we hope are a little better or we may be drinking at home from now on.
Food_Drink_Friends - 14 Aug 2011 15:35
decent enough pub full of regulars, always a good sign.
atthebar - 30 Jul 2011 12:44

I agree with the comments on the massive improvements to the Foresters Arms, my boyfriend and I have had many pleasant evenings here, as a felmale I feel very comfortable in this pub, the staff are welcoming and the customers are always happy.
The brilliant thing about this pub as theres always something to put in your diary... I do however disagree on the comments about the food as I think its top here! that's quality and value... well done to the new owners there doing a fantastic job!!! keep up the good work.

When I first moved to the area, I was quite put off by the custom hanging outside this pub. A couple of years later and a dramatic change is evident; certainly more sociable and more welcoming. Prices are relatively okay. However food is poor.
TaxiMan_TravisB - 7 Mar 2010 15:16
went south for a while, now its heading back up thanks to Ray

Popped in yesterday and was pleasently surprised.

A nice refit, which has opened up a bit more space than previously and a little brighter too. Accompanied by two handpulls, Courage Best and Abbot (though disappointingly the Best was a bit too cold and the Abbot clip was turned).

The inhabitants are the same as usual, not neccessarilty the most welcoming bunch at first but there's a lot less of the 'deathly silence descending' when an unknown walks in compared to a lot other pubs in the North Surrey area.

It's child-friendly (a few nippers zooming about yesterday evening) and has SKY Sports on widescreen, with correctly-set aspect ratios.

If they can get the ale on the straight and narrow, this could be a more regular drop-in for me. Promising.
Quinno - 21 Jan 2007 14:26
under going a refit ... but still open
Thevicar - 26 Nov 2006 21:14
RE: Si's comment - Not a bad little place, the locals won't communicate at first but you tend to get accepted if you go in regularly and aren't obviously a student 'tosser'. Clientele mainly old men and the gentrified builders who appear to inhabit that part of Egham, living off the proceeds of either doing up or renting student houses.

Ale variable, though haven't been in for a few months.
Quinno - 22 Aug 2005 16:08
This pub has now changed hands and is getting alot better new happier bar staff who are polite and keen to make a go of things
reebokray - 12 Aug 2005 16:51
this used to be a decent live music pub - what happened?
anonymous - 8 Jan 2005 18:40
Back street local. Ale usually available but "only" Corage Best and/or Pride. Has "Live" footy on Sats at 3pm
anonymous - 7 Jan 2005 14:02
The sort of pub that when you walk in the music stops and everyone turns around to look at you. Almost expected some Brian Glover like character to tell me to stay off the moors.
