This pub had new owners in 2015 . They have taken out most of the nice old features of the pub including comfortyable seats and pictures and old objects and put in modern Ikea styled furniture and very uncomfortable stools instead. We were horrified to see a huge modern jukebox dominating the bar. The pub was almost empty on the Saturday evening we visited but we had to wait for a long time before the barman turned up to serve us. The previous owners served wonderful food but the menu is now fish, burger or scampi and chips type things so we went to the Red Lion at Long Compton instead and had a lovely meal. Very disappointing end for what used to be a nice old pub.

Aaargh, disappointingly closed between 3-5 on a Saturday afternoon.

Just had a two night break at this wonderful establishment. Lovely room, superb food (homemade bread to die for) and friendly staff. Hook Norton Hooky in excellent condition and two other beers on hand pumps. Thoroughly recommended. An added bonus is dogs allowed all areas.

Stayed at The Fox and Hounds with Judy a few weeks ago for one of their two nights stays. Really enjoyed our stay and have booked again over Christmas. The owners are working extremely hard to make a go of a traditional English village inn at a time when many places are closing. They succeed by making guests feel welcome and indeed friends throughout their stay without being partronising. The pub itself is everything one could wish in terms of traditional and welcoming. Roaring fires in winter, beams with hops, interesting prints and most importantly... superb hand pulled beers from Hook Norton and local microbreweries. It got my Camra vote! The locals and regulars are an eccletic group who make excellent ambassadors for the English Tourist Board and make all visitors very welcome and are rightly proud to share their local with guests. The accommodation is comfortable and clean and what one should expect in a three hundred year old property. This is not your standard Travel Lodge. Duck or Grouse as they say! Best of all, however, is the food. Jamie, owner and excellent chef, cooks some of the best food I've ever eaten. Fresh local produce and great portions. He makes his own ice cream, jams, chutneys, sausages, black pudding, and cures his own bacon. I asked him if he laid the free range eggs as well! All in all an excellent place in a beautiful part of the world. I just wish I could afford to live around those parts, but its great to be able to visit , share and made to feel welcome. Thank you all at The Fox and Hounds.

Didn't actually imbibe in this pub but discovered it on a reccy of the area.

Very attractive looking pub with an exciting food menu albeit really quite expensive. Ale range looked good (3 I believe) and the staff were very friendly.

This is the perfect country inn. It's really cosy inside with massive fireplace, settles, beams, candles and the UBU was one the best ales I have ever tasted. The food was very good, but at 14 for a roast was overpriced. Service was excellent. Overall I can't fault this place and it's one of the best pubs I've ever visited. Wish it was my local.

Having just visited The Cotswolds, we thought we'd return to this Inn after staying here in 2005. The place has changed hands since and although the menu prices are still high, the food is very good (not your usual pub grub, plus homemade chips for a change!) with lovely presentation. It was a quiet lunchtime when we visited - nice and cosy with a welcoming log fire on a grey Autumn day! We learnt during our stay that evenings can become busy, therefore it's advisable to book to guarantee a table.

I went there on a Saturday night with my band (we were playing at a local country house for a wedding). It is an absolutely gorgeous little pub, with some of the best kept beer I've had for quite sometime - it was refreshing to have 3 ales from local brewers, without a Greene King IPA or London Pride in sight. The "biggest" brewer represented was Hook Norton with Old Hooky.

The food was excellent but over-priced, even accounting for the obvious presence of extremely loaded punters. 5.50 for half a round of beef sandwiches and chips? It was lovely though, I'd just have preferred a slightly larger portion. A glance at the blackboard for the main courses showed the high prices there too - 16 quid for a steak!

It is tiny, and clearly geared towards dining these days rather than being a drinkers pub. Despite the high prices, there appears to be no problem with demand so I can't blame the landlady for that. I can however take issue with her attitude to the 8 of us who had spent 80-90 quid in total. We weren't exactly made to be welcome in return for our custom, mainly because the table we were on was required for a reservation later on: understandable given that it's a small pub, but she could have handled it better. Maybe we're just used to big city customer service.

On the whole an excellent pub well worth going out of your way for.

Excellent country pub/inn off the beaten track.

We stayed here for a few days in autumn and the food and atmosphere were both excellent! The chef also cooks breakfast in the morning if staying overnight and will do it to order if required. We were made very welcome by the proprietor.

It is a lovely, olde worlde inn (circa 1600 I think) and was very busy for midweek (booking essential if you wish to eat).

I would recommend it for a night out if local or for an overnight visit if not.

Beautiful country pub with excellent food. Real ales and a large selection of malt whiskies(nearly 200).
