Claims to be the smallest pub in England. The lounge is certainly small with the bar squeezed into the right hand side. Even the toilets re upstairs. A limited range of draught beers and lagers and no real ale at all. It was however friendly.

Most people who go here in the evenings are there for the strippers. Some of the girls are good, others ok and some are just awful. For some reason the landlord seems to regularly book two very large (almost obese) Black women; quite off-putting to many potential customers who resent having to give a £1.00 out of politeness to strippers they really would prefer to keep their clothes on!

This is a very small pub and is rather like walking into someone’s front room. Quite cosy in Winter, especially compared to the nearby Forresters, which is cavernous and bleak when only a few customers are in it. The downside is that it can get very crowded very quickly. Expect an influx of loud, braying Northerners about 10.00ish every evening: usually a good time to leave!

Bloody Hell! I wanted to like this pub. I really did. Unfortunately, my open mindedness wasn't rewarded with an enjoyable experience. I got booed by my own mates when I insisted we pop in one Saturday night recently. The terrible, and frankly bizarre, choice of music was played at ear splitting volume enough to smash a World Record and the requisite traffic light disco flashes completed the pretence of an enjoyable evening. I dont wish to comment on the clientele as having not spoken to them I would not wish to make assumptions, but there was something not right about the whole place. Like something was going to happen, and it wasnt going to be very nice. I have been here alone once before on a cold afternoon just to kill some time and it wasnt too bad, but some places just arent Saturday night pubs and I can think of no better an example of such a boozer.

*TERRIBLE PUB! DO NOT GO!*i know a girl who worked in this pub, who walked into it for a shift and was jumped on by a girl who threw a glass at her face and beat her up. nobody in this pub did anything to stop it, noone behind the bar (who she worked for) jumped in, and people drinking there laughed and jeered at her. she only got away because she managed to push the girl off and get to her car. this pub is an atrocious place where local hooligans and drug addicts go, where people do not feel at all welcome, and where it is perfectly ok to let someone get beaten up without intervening. if there were no more pubs in this world i would just give up drinkin rather than set foot near there.

Used to drink in here years ago. Funny crowd got in - some serious problem drinkers, a few old slappers, a nice blonde piece with lovely up-top jose's and a modicom of travelling working crew boys. "No" I'm not a full galoot and want to buy you free ale all night nor am I interested in your Mrs, other sister.
"Yes" I'm sure you earn 10 a week and are really good friends with Sarfends great and good. Icouldn't be less interested if I was dead for a few weeks so bog off. They knicked the telly in here one weekend and the culprints (a couple of handy lad imigrants) were brought back to the pub for cross examination and a fairly decent kicking by the locals and there friends. not sure if that'll happen again now we've gone Digital.

The family went to the amusements, I came in here. Football was being shown this particular Saturday lunchtime with about a dozen locals watching the match or filling out betting slips for the bookies opposite.
Two beers were on, one being 'Ah Purrfect Specks' brewed by Cornucopia Ales - not sure what that meant. The other a Mighty Oak brew; Mare's T'ale. The only pub along the seafront selling decent beer.
Just about enough room inside for all of us but I wouldn't fancy being in there with twice as many punters.

I am not sure of the exact dates as unfortuantly none of my family are still alive. But my Grandparents were the licencees for many years before, during and after the second world war. My grandmother ran the pub whilst my Grandfather was in active service. My father was actualy born in the pub.On his return my Grandfather continued to run the pub for a few years before they decided to move on to something else.
Like I have said.the exact years that my family had the pub is not known to me.I would be grateful if anyone has any info that they can share with me.
My grandparents were Leslie and Helen ( Nelly) Moore.
I would dearly love to hear anything regarding when they had the pub.
My name is Terry Moore....Any info much appreciated.

Really enjoyed this pub. was here on a january mid week evening, for chelsea's game at southend.

very small, drinkers pub. which had a nice charm to it. the ale drinkers amongst us really enjoyed their pints, im a lager drinker and the beer was perfectly adequate.

also one of the only pubs i know of which still has free nibbles on the bar. i think statement sums the place up.

Wonderful atmosphere on the evening of 23/12/08. Lively banter amongst the locals, and a friendly chat afforded by some of them. Only time for one pint of Mighty Oak Mauldon Gold, but it was on its 10/10 form. Continues to be an excellent hostelry, well worth visiting.

My comments are some 50 years old. My father was the licensee from 1951 - 1957 and I spent many a happy school holiday there. At that time it was the local fisherman's local (except for the annual illuminations when it was the first and last for the day-trippers who arrived by "charabang" in the Seaway carpark.) Then it was a "beer only house" no spirits were served. It had a small private or ladies bar. Recent photographs that I have seen show one bar. The feature of the pub was the assortment of bric a brac including preserved siamese twin monkeys and a glass case with evening dressed squirrels playing billiards. Quite a place for a teenager in the 50's to grow up.

I visited the Cornucopia on 22/12/2007 during an evening in Southend. This is indeed a tiny, intimate pub with an 'L' shaped bar to the right as you enter from the corner of the pub. A traditional interior greets you, with the lighting at a pleasant level.

A very friendly, well-traveled and knowledgeable landlord offered me a warm welcome on a freezing December night, and it was nice to hear his stories in between songs from the lively karaoke session belting out by the front of the pub.

Mighty Oak "Mauldon Gold" was on very good form - I enjoyed two pints - and an Adnams seasonal ale was also available. I was told there were normally three ales on, and that one of them is regularly from Mighty Oak.

I will visit again, maybe on a quieter night - no disrespect to the karaoke participants some of whom had excellent singing voices!

Good 8/10.

Nice little street corner seafront pub selling two real ales. Can be a bit noisy summer weekends but all in all a nice small comfortable pub. It'supposed to be the smallest pub in Essex with the honour of the smallest pub in Britain going to The Nutshell,Bury St.Edmunds.
