In a very busy and bustling part of town not far from the station and with quite a few other pubs in the area. Loads of little shops - selling just about everything - nearby. The pub is two bar with two doorways from one front lobby off the street. It is possible to get an idea of how this place must have looked when it was built because, apart from the general fixtures and fittings much remains and it is a pleasant enough little pub (yes it is a gay venue but so what). Two beers - Harveys and Otter were in good nick and the Tavern is worth a visit if you're on a local pub crawl.

Very friendly gay pub (they have also taken over the Bedford Tavern in West Street) of two halves; on the left, busier and noisier with piped music; on the right, quieter with more chairs and tables. It's a lot less manic than some of the pubs in the area if you want a quietish pint. Always a few real ales on.

Seems to have been some time since anyone posted a review here? I have been into the pub a few times now and found the locals to be friendly, yes I know they are gay but it's no problem to me!

What does utterly surprise me though is the fact that I seem to have drunk them out of Green Goblin cider and their attitude is that they arent going to stock it any more?

Excuse me, but if I had a business where I sold out of something I would be doing my utmost to get more stock of that item in?

Sorry, you just lost yourself a customer.

If you are happy to stock 'fashionable' fruit ciders rather than the one I drank in your pub, I wish you luck....

I am not gay but I was quite happy to be among your lovely customers, however you seem not to want me in your pub. Your choice?

Yes it's gay (so what? This is Brighton) and speaking as a militant heterosexual, this is one of the friendliest and most accommodating pubs in the area. A great welcome, good beer and superb service. As a straight man I have never felt uncomfortable in here.

Try it!

Friendly welcome guaranteed. Have had some great times in here and a shame I only visit twice a year when in Brighton for weekend. See you at the weekend, guys and gals!

Used to go here when i was 16 as it served me! Not been in much reciently, partly because it is now a gay place and i like the chance of meeting women in pubs, and partly because i go to other pubs now! But i'd say it's a nice little pub and well worth a visit.

A straight bloke in a gay bar,hey what a grand time I have with all the staff, gay and lesbian friends I have made since visiting.
It feels like your own front room when visiting for a drink.Very friendly staff and customers.Definately made this Spearchucker who grew up in a mudhut feel well at home without having to stand with the behind to the wall, hell i could even bend down for my keyes without a poke.Robert and John two lovely blokes with great staff, good beer, not bad for two POOFS from the east end of Londonia.kEEP THE GLASSES AND SHOTS FLOWING.No need to try another pub in this area if you a real ale drinker, their ales are good ,poured from clean lines into even cleaner glasses.Proud to be a BT convert.

It's better as a gay pub than it was before, but it's still rather scruffy and slapdash. Worth popping into if you get caught in the rain, or if you're a regular of course, but whatever your fancies there are better pubs nearby.

Other comments look well dodgy - this is far from being the best pub in Brighton, certainly not 10/10.
