i went into this pub 2 years ago only to be 'offered out' by ex-doctor who Peter Davidson. this is not the first doctor who to have antagonized me and i'm guessing he won't be the last. without giving away any spoilers ... in real life they don't regenerate but simply go to another pub

I went here for lunch today. They do 50 chicken wings in one of two sauces. I regret to inform the readers of this site that neither is a tomato based sauce. It frustrate me as it's such a simple sauce to make. also, the pub i really busy. I once went in there at 13:00 to get a single beer (half) and was still waiting at 17:15. After finally getting served i spilt my beer over a your young who was doing a pole dance. after putting a pound in her glass she slapped me around the face and said that i was a "weasel". I'm not sure what a "weasel" is but i don't like to be compared to any cereal

Now called The Windsor. Cheap and cheerful for the area. Beer is average to say the least. Went in the other day only one ale and it was ropey.

I will stick to the Guinness in future.

Better off paying the extra at the Ship round the corner.

Great city pub very busy very lively excellent food and friendly service, I would definatley recommend going on a Karaoke night or when they have a live band it's great fun! They've always got something going on there beach night, casino night poker nights, it's nice to see a city pub making a real effort for their regulars! Try the fish and chips very tasty

I go to this pub every lunchtime and I think it's great. The staff are really nice too. I love The Windsor but I think it should be called The Goose.

popped in last wednesday daytime (after the lunch rush) , saw they are doing drinks promos now , vodka and lemonade for a pound ..... and a beer (cant remember which brand) for under 2 a pint .... making this pub cheaper than the local weatherspoons , admittedly this pub is expensive on other things , but not as bad as certain other places in the locale , normally use this pub on way into or out of the station , wouldnt go out of my way to go here , but it does for a drink , the staff were friendly and efficent when i visted and the beer was good

Best avoided. Whetherspoons without the frills! Why is this place in the City?

Yes it's now called The Windsor it's an excellent bar gets really busy most days especially Fridays!! they sell a wide selection of beers and wine and there food is fab for the price. They even hold poker night there on Thursdays but it gets real busy so if you're planning on going for a game get there early. excellent place to go if you're having a party with a group of friends nice and cheap and cheerful, thought the staff were great really friendly and nine times out of ten they even remember what your drinking which is great when you've had a few and forgotten yourself!!! they've even started to do karaoke which is a great laugh and even better to kick off your weekend and forget about the paper work building up in the office! best pub in the city for price

Now called Windsor. Not a bad place given that it's modelled as a cheap and cheerful outlet.

The inside is an L-shaped bar with a raised area on one side - obviously refurbed not too long ago, was clean and looked-after.

Had a couple of ales on and my Tim Taylor Landlord was decent enough.

The food is pretty cheap for the area but the quality reflects this; expect deep-fry and microwave combinations. Still, it came out in good time given how busy the place was.

If you're looking for quick ,cheap food and a fair pint of ale this place isn't too bad, especially if you're in a group.

I really like this pub (now called the Windsor as pointed out). Not only is it in a convenient location; it also does a good selection of food that is far better than Wetherspoon's, in my opinion. Of particular note is its Steak and Stout pie, which is both tasty and large. I can only think of one occasion when the ale wasn't at its best, but generally it is good. The staff are friendly and helpful and it even has a few regulars, which is unusual for a pub in the City. I remember seeing someone there regularly - I don't know his real name but people called him Jessett, I think - he was good fun; although he told the sort of jokes your father would tell! All in all, it's a good place for a lunchtime or after-work pint.

Beer fine but the place itself is scruffy and depressing.

Now called the Windsor

I recently visited this pub and found that all the staff were really friendly and helpful. Its slightly tucked out of the way which is a shame. There was a wide range of lager and spirits and the beer tasted really good! I would definately recommend this pub to any of my friends and intend on going back! All round good service i found!

This place is a dump - a perfect example of a soulless city pub. Best avoided.

went in last night had a pint of fosters which wasnt upto much , the pub was packed , didnt really hang around as was stood next to some daft blonde woman who really did my head in , now called the windsor , ok for a quick pint better than the pub on the station concourse
romfordir - 9 Mar 2007 16:13
not the goose any more , think its called the windsor now , change of name but thats all , still the same pub , had a bit of a refurb , think they just cleaned the floor , reasonable prices for the area , the beer isnt much cop but its cheap n cheerful , the weatherspoons is as cheap if not cheaper and the beer is much better quality

Probably one of the worse pubs in the area. Below par in every area although beer is cheap. But if you want cheap beer go to the Liberty Bounds round the corner.
Ate there once and will never eat there again.
TheHorsesMouth - 15 Feb 2006 13:59
normally too busy when im about but have been here a few times cheap n cheerful
romfordir - 1 Feb 2006 15:16
Beer was off last time I went in there so went on the Becks, its cheap and the customers (in general) reflect this.
carterse9 - 24 Jan 2006 09:18
nice pub, set downstairs in an L shape set at different levels several real ales and a wide selection of food.
PunkySi - 7 Dec 2005 19:19
Not a bad pub for a few cheap cheeky beers on a day before pay day. If it gets sunny, the lane outside gets packed, and is known locally as 'whiplash alley' due to the large volumes of quality totty walking up and down the stairs outside. However, when it is busy you can't get served.
rockstar - 23 Nov 2005 11:34
Nice pub, cheap drink specials. Its always busy but the staff are efficiant. A good after work meeting place.
