Four of us gathered here on Tuesday for lunch. Food excellent and about four different beers on pump. The only slight hitch was the vegetarian amongst us was served bacon on their plate and on the menu it looked like a veggie choice. Tip: choose the bar area to eat in; we chose to sit in the restaurant part of the pub and were left in splendid isolation while all the action was from the large bar where people were also eating. Staff very friendly and 'mine host' does a great job of jollying along the punters and staff. The pub itself is a classic Tudor Inn with all the oak beams, old fire places you could wish for.

Day 5 on the South Downs Way and this was my accommodation for the night.

Had to wait till 6pm for it to open! But only 45 minutes and someone had kindly left the Times outside.

Beautiful inside. Badger Beer (a rare find) and I tried the First Call and the Tanglefoot - both excellent but my preference would be for the former.

Food superb - evening meal was excellent and breakfast was outstanding!

Recommended. Some photos at my walking blog - http://mappiman.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/030915-twenty-miles-to-east-meon.html

Visited here on Saturday night. Very friendly staff, good selection of Ales - sampled the Badgers Hopping Hare and the food was great. Very traditional country pub and should not be missed. Get there before Tesco do !

Arrived half way throughout a Sunday walk. Staff very friendly, service very good and beer and wine excellent. Food of a very high standard (starters and mains - no room for dessert !). Reasonable price (15 for two courses). Everyone enjoyed this lunch and we will return.

Our walking party gave both the East Meon pubs a visual once over & settled for the George as being a little more user friendly. We tried all the real ales on offer, the Badger & the Sussex bitter gained top marks & both were well kept clean & clear. The food is what I call top range pub grub. Good ingredients well prepared. Our group sampled a fair range of dishes from the menu, no complaints & the pricing was not too heavy and in line with the quality of the food. To sum up a very pleasant comfortable pub with excellent friendly staff who gave us prompt service with a smile. One of our group wanted to stay all afternoon he felt so relaxed there. Only one demerit point, my wife felt that the dessert menu was not too exciting & her raspberry creme brulee came close to contravening the trade discription act. As she put it, one raspberry does not qualify for its given name. I give it 7.5 points.

Nice pub. Good range of draught beers including Badger and King and Barnes Sussex Bitter.
Dogs allowed. The pub seems to specialise in the food line.
