My third and probably final visit.
The small pub car park was full so parked in the high street.
Not a lot had changed inside apart from the beer choice getting worse.
GK Abbot, IPA, OSH and Landlord so forced to try BrewDog's Punk IPA from the "shiny" tap. Cold and fizzy as expected - but still better than Old Speckled Shite!

Only my second visit and pretty much the same as last time.
Greene King IPA is still present (probably the same barrel as last year).
The Wadsworth 6X had run dry (no surprise there) which left Palmer's Best Bitter.

Hesitated outside for a while but decided to give this pub a try one Wednesday evening.
It is not really my sort of pub.
A 'u' shaped room with a few high tables and stools (not ideal for eating at) as well as regular tables and seating. 3 televisions, set on three different channels, and noisy chatter from the clientele didn't exactly fill me with any great expectations.

The menu has a good choice of meals, cheap prices but excellent quality. Steak £7.50, Ribs £8 both lean and tasty.
My sponge pud for afters had been micro-waved a bit too long. The lump of rock was taken back and replaced, without any fuss, for a nice fluffy one.

Greene King beers, IPA and OSH, ensured two hand pumps would not be overworked. But the guest beer from Dark Star, American Pale Ale, was on fire. What a great beer. If you see it - try it - you will not be disappointed.

It may not be the greatest pub in the area but it does serve good food and at least one decent ale.

to pretentious to be a pub not stylish enough to be a wine bar ,staff were ok i wish i could say the same about the food. as for the beer, usual greeneking fodder would it hurt to source a local guest ale like ringwood fourtyniner. on a more positive note while we were dining we spotted vicki pollard from little britain or something that looked just like her,one of the staff said she works for the brewery, scary

This is a 'so-so' pub. I can only recommend it for a few cheeky beers before heading off the the Taj over the road for a curry.

It gets very busy at the weekend and the staff cope well. However, they are not the friendliest of staff. I believe that staff can still be polite/friendly when a pub is rammed instead of curt/rude.

Tables need to be cleaned more regularly.

Not particularly welcoming.

I went in at miday for a lunch of Scampi & Chips and an alcahol free beer and
I was asked impolitely to remove my baseball cap . ( which was in fact a Ragatta all weather cap rather than a baseball cap ) . I chose on the daytime
menu a Scampi & Chips lunch which was served to me on a cold plate , followed by a square shaped basket of various relishes which despite my
protesting that I wouldn't need all those ! My voice wasn't heard so I tried
2 types of plastic source bottles only to find that they were still sealed that I had to use a fork prong to puncture them.

Very poor and unwelcoming pub. I was asked to remove my cap - but only after i'd paid and started to drink my pint. I'm over 50 years of age, hardly a 'hoodie'.

good all round pub and sports bar, ok might a bit loud at times but it is a sports bar. regular beers are ok but if you want real ale use the porterhouse. prices are not the cheapest but not the dearest either. good value food. they try ...which is a change these days.

Very grubby and poorly managed by the Greeneking Pub Company - unpolished brass beer pumps and dirty uncared for back bar areas. It attracts the Westbourne dross (myself not included!). This Pub should go Gastro.

Now given up entirely on real ale which can only benefit The Porterhouse which is a much better pub in any case.

I believe they have had a management change and a refurb after the last posted message.
I have enjoyed drinking here for the past three years.
Great atmosphere for football and rugby.

Used to be a scouse stronghold but they all seem to have been ethnically cleansed. Anyone know why? Last time I was in there, it was packed and whilst I was queueing at the bar I overheard a bloke going into some detail as he told his partner why he was leaving her for good. Excrutiating stuff but entertaining at the same time. Anyway, I suppose you want to know about the pub. Large place, decent beer and food although the beer prices are more in line with a town centre pub. One big screen and plenty of smaller screens dotted around the place so you won't miss the game. Pool table, quiz machine and plenty of fruit machines.
