Visited The Iford for the first time in years this week and what a change - very much for the better. I arrived shortly before my guest and observed the way everyone worked together, cheerful and smiling, creating a good atmosphere. The landlady and staff were friendly, efficient, patient with all customers and, even though it was fairly busy, I did not have to wait long at the bar. I must admit to being slightly wary of trying the food as it was so cheap but it was a needless concern. Our lunch arrived in good time, it was hot, well presented and tasted extremely good, we were very impressed and will be going back.
A pub that is everything a pub should be.

Cannot agree with you. so far as I recall this pub has no lift and has 3 areas for eating 2 are on same ground level third is up 3 steps only.
Have eaten there many times since last report ---Never had bad meal or service
Megnom - 26 Dec 2009 18:22
What was to be a meal stop became quick drink stop. The half pint of ale was alright. The "Out of Order" sign on the disabled lift meant we could not dine. Appeared to be a standard 2 for 1 pub with the black and yellow menu. I use so many of these I can recite usual menu and this pub had a smaller than normal specials board.

I agree with Megnom, this is a great pub, that the staff make you feel so welcome everytime me and my family have been in, the food is very very good, steaks cooked to perfection. and the prices are very low. monday night is cheap beer night, tuesdays is curry night, since the last refurb it is always very busy, but the staff work so well. never waited more than 25mins for food, and thats on a busy saturday night, but they do need more staff on espcially the way this business is going, if you have ever been diaspointed in the past i suggest you go back asap and try it now. you wont be dissapointed. from a table for 1 or table for 50 not a promblem, pool table, t,vs, skysports news, and i have heard they do buffets at requests too. it is well worth going down for dinner or a evening meal, by yourself or with your family. 10out of 10 yet again, well done to the team at the iford bridge, keep it up.

Today we revisited this pub ,I am beginning to wonder how they provide such a service.
The food is priced unbelievably low. the pub is clean and tidy, the staff extremely efficient and cheerful. speed of service depends on how busy they are, our meal was on the table within 10 minutes. my steak was cooked to perfection a steel griddle platter still cooking so stayed hot to end of meal.
My wife had a wonderful smothered chicken.
This is a pub that others should set their standards by

my comment below was meant to say we wasnt inpressed with food before it became a sizzing pub, that this changed companies now????
lisa22 - 4 May 2009 23:59
We visited this resturant before it had another refurb and changed to sizzing, was very inpressed, but have been back since it has changed, and i am more than inpressed this time, food is cheap, hot, very tasty, service is brill. We went in on a sat night and it was very busy, but food arrived at table in 15mins, good choice of meals and wow on the choc fudge cake dessert, friendly staff, warm and welcoming, if you havent visted this pub yet YOU MUST or if you have promblems in past and have been put off, give it another go, you will be going back time and time again, like me and my husband, we go twice a week now. keep up the good work

It has all changed since new management.
Children only excluded in one part, which is acceptable
Service of drinks a little long but to be expected in such a busy pub.
Test taste a beer?--no problem
food well cooked and presented ,prices are unbelievably low .
I rate this 10 ++

One of the best resturants/pubs i have been to for a meal, kids allowed to 9pm, staff are very friendly and polite, and the food is the best, great prices. new manager is very friendly and welcoming, food served quickly, pool table, if you havent been then you must go, you will not be dissapointed, big table welcome and families welcome aswell, outside heathers for tables. 10 out of 10 for everything, will be going back with family and friends

Oh by the way ignore the post by treaclej.
Children are welcome in this pub and they even provide high chairs for tots.

Great pub brilliant food and prices are excellent.
Now re-branded as a sizzling pub.
The staff are great, I would thoroughly recommend this pub for a meal and a few well kept beers.
10 out of 10

really disapponited..in the pub for 20 minutes, ordered drinks and was ordering food and got asked to leave..no-one told us children were not welcome..no signs up about it. my little boy is 2 and was as good as gold in there. asked why no-one had said something before, and they said they did not see us (we were sat right by the bar). fair enough to have rules, but they were not displayed and we wasted time and money in there (I had not even touched my drink neither had my partner or little boy), and by the time we found somewhere else to eat my little boy was over-hungry and grotty..thanks for nothing!! no refund on our drinks either!!

Much better now it's been refurb'd but don't bother eating here. The food is dire, small portions and often has missing ingredients, ie a curry that came without the bombay potatoes because they'd run out. They refused to substitute it with anything else because "it's all prepackaged and measured out" Also expensive for what it is.

Ok for a drink, quite smart inside but often not enough bar staff to cope at busy periods. The big plus here is that they only allow children over 14 and that's if they are accompanied by adults and are eating in the restaurant. So at least you can drink in peace and quiet with out brats running around!

********AWFUL************
the worse time at a pub i have ever had. i booked a table for 13, giving 4 days notice, i spoke to them twice to confirm details of my surprise party booking. on arrival my party had been spread around the room on different tables. nobody approached me to apologize, there was only one waitress serving the whole dinning area, we were told we had 45 minutes to get our order in as the chef finished at 21.00hrs. served with rubber gammon. unable to think of one good point. avoid at all cost !!!!!!!!!!

Now an embers pub, food reasonable, never seen it busy, but youg staff polite and attentive, Only visited it at lunchtimes so can't comment on evening atmosphere.

It had been several years since we were last in the Iford but we went along to try the new "Red" Guinness.

The Guinness was very drinkable,I suppose you would expect it to be with all the expense of developing and bringing a new product to market, but what a change inside the pub.The new layout and decor has created all the vibrant ambience of Alan Partridge's mythical Travel Tavern.

Rammed with all the latest accoutrements of bland it now provides a truly soulless night out.

I VISIT THE IFORD AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK AND ALL I CAN SAY IS THE STAFF ARE MISERABLE AND THERE IS A DISTINCT LACK OF MANAGEMENT.I HEAR THEY ARE NOW FOR SALE,LETS HOPE NEW MANAGEMENT AND STAFF ARRIVE WITH THE NEW OWNERS.
I WONT BE GOING BACK.

I did enjoy a really nice glass of red wine there on monday. And the bar man was fit.

Food has improved beyond all recognition but agree with Peter Froude that a pub should primarily be about drinking. Unfortunately, the balance has been tilted too far in the direction of the foodies.
John - 2 Nov 2004 11:57
I have some more to say about the Iford Bridge, because I have been visiting it every day. I have been seeing a very sick friend in hospital, and need a pint afterwards. Anyway the place is now mostly BF, and only really wants foodies. I wandered over to the large eating area, and was instantly told "if you are only drinking then stay in the bar". On another occasion my companion had the ash tray taken from him, and he was informed that he was over the line, and in a dining area. We overheard one of the barmaids say "why is nobody happy in here?. This was true,as both staff and customers seemed unhappy. So if you are a sad and unhappy git, who loves to obey rules and regulations - then the Iford Bridge is the place for you.

The Iford Bridge has changed for the better - so my former comments should be disregarded. It now has a little bit of class to it, and any pub that has Old Speckled Hen cannot be bad. The atmosphere is pleasant - but sadly the barmaid who served me was bored and wished to be elsewhere on a Sunday night. It is always the staff that let them down isn't it? Anyway being on a holiday route into Bournemouth, it is best to visit this place in the winter.

The iford bridge tavern has changed the last couple of months it is alot better than before honstley go there

The Iford Bridge, is one of those pubs that cannot be missed when driving to Bournemouth. Because of this they constantly pull in the trade, and so they do not have to try. Their food is OK, but one steak and ale pie is the same as any other steak and ale pie. The beautiful River Stour is alongside, but the locals can see that all of the time. It is a pub for the tripper, who wishes to make a stop before going into Bournemouth.
Peter Froude - [email protected] - 11 Nov 2003 19:05
Had a few pints there once. Nice view of the river if you like that sort of thing.
Jon - 17 Aug 2003 18:46
not that bad a pub,I often go there after a trip up the river, helps relax me....

This pub has recently been given a makeover. Lighter colours, modern style and better lighting. But lacks character. It is Brewers Fayre owned. Since the makeover they have lost some character and cancelled the quiz. They seem to concentrate on the food which is standard BF style.
anonymous - 10 May 2003 12:08
The Iford has fallen on hard times mainly due to the appalling state of the food. (A coat of paint wouldn't go amiss either). You can still get a decent pint and for those of you interested there are a couple of fruit machines and the last time I was home there was a quiz night every Tuesday.
