Fishery Inn, Elstreeback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Just got home from the fishery and well willbrook who posted on 5th Dec i really dont know what your talking about!!!!!! an amazing place with staff that are second to none, Jackie our waitress took care of us and beyond and chelsea behind the bar was amazing. if you get the chance you should try again, i am sure you will be pleasently surprised

This is definitely not the place to go to for a Christmas lunch if you are in a group as they obviously can't cope with more than two people at a table. They are also the most unhelpful and unaccommodating restaurant staff I have ever dealt with. The food was okay, nothing to write home about, just okay. The service, or lack of it, was abysmal. One of my group asked for a glass of water. Twice. It never arrived. We had to ask for spoons for the dessert, milk, sugar and spoons for the coffee, and plates for the mince pies! One of my group complained about the taste of a soft drink - he was told that's how it was and was not offered an alternative. The whole place lacked atmosphere and apart from a couple of Christmas trees it all looked tired and totally non-festive. Pity as it's in a beautiful location overlooking the Aldenham Reservoir. It has a huge car park which probably never gets more than half full. I wonder why?

The Fisheries is another example of a modern wood d�cor McMullens house with more of a focus on the food service. It�s a fairly large pub situated on the Watford Road half way between Elstree and Bushey, with an outside terrace area overlooking the Aldenham Reservoir opposite.
Inside it is a modern d�cor with a central bar and the left side being more the traditional pub area with comfortable but limited sofas and chairs , and then the entire right hand side is a light wood panelled eating area. This restaurant section is themed with old style fish pictures to at least give it a bit of character.
We did choose to eat here and found the food to be very good and the service to be attentive The menu is slightly more towards Gastro than Toby Inn but not enough to be pretentious and overpriced.
The beer in not particularly inspiring being the usual McMullens fare but couldn�t complain about my pint of AK which was in good condition.
But the outside terrace is one of this pubs main positives , as it makes the most of its location and I can think of a lot worse places to sit and have a pint, than on the outside benches watching the dingy sailors on the reservoir opposite.

Don't tell the wife (or husband for that matter) but this is an ideal place to take the ageing Mother-in-law in preperation for the morgue. It's dull, dreary and lacking in any sort of atmosphere.
Located in Elstree (on the whole a wealthy place) it appears the owners are seeking to attract the type of clientele who have very little to say, let alone indulge in any sort of banter. It is nothing more than a boring restaurant with a smidgeon of pub about it.
Food is average (at best), beer equally so but the high prices hardly reflect this. It has a certain 'feel' about it, one which suggests the owner/landlord is seeking one last stab at making it work before it has to close. It's a real shame as it's the only place left in a village which once boasted four pubs. In my opinion it has gone completely in the wrong direction. Bring back the pub I say, with good beer, great atmosphere and an enjoyable place to be....Sadly, for this place, those times appear to be long gone....Avoid.

So it has to try and attract people, which it does by being a clean, comfortable place with a decent food menu and generally good service. And by making the most of its location and I can think of a lot worse places to sit and have a pint, than the outside benches overlooking the Aldenham Reservoir.

This is a spacious, clean place and well managed. The McMullens beers are boring (as always) but there is a very good food menu. Service is so-so, depending on who's behind the bar. Prices are on the high side - �1.15 for a bag of peanuts! - but given the lack of competition in the area I suppose they can get away with it. A nice enough place, but definitely not your typical friendly 'local'.

Went on a Sunday when most people were having the roasts, however we chose the Red Snapper which was a good sized fillet with mediteranean veg which was a good choice. 2 McMullens ales available, I chose the Country and seemed to have little change from �3

Nice, but busy - though it was the first day of sunshine this summer, so I guess that's to be expected.
A good area outside front and back - admittedly there is a busy main road out the front, but I think I can forgive it for being able to see people out boating on Aldenham Reservoir. Just wish they didn't feel the need to pipe the pop music out through tinny little speakers...
Beer was good, no complaints about the food, either.
Staff were very friendly too - the ladies behind the bar probably won't like me saying that it reminded me of the dinner ladies when queuing up at school, but I mean that in a nice way!
Not sure of a rating for this pub yet, but will definitely give it another visit.

Average food and the standard 2 McMullens ales, but this place provides a welcome break on the trek between Elstree and Bushey. Staff are welcoming and the atmosphere relaxed.

A McMullen's pub with average food and McMullen's real ales. Outdoor seating has a nice view of the lake, but unfortunately of the busy road as well. 6/10.
