Another pub reopened (at the end of 2014), and seeming to make a concession for all, with distinct areas set aside for drinkers (a bar with its own bar menu), cocktail bar and restaurant. The Chas Wells/Dogfish collaboration on tap was a surprise to see and eagerly snapped up. There's an Art Deco lean to the surroundings, which a lends a uniqueness to a tried-and-tested format, and the garden is an excellent sun-trap on a warm day.

In a nice location, the small basic bar offers 2 real ales Bombardier and Youngs Special. The restaurant is large, very gastropub with an interesting menu which is served in a stylish way, but unfortunately the cooking is not up to the style and prices. Food was overcooked, and dry, a disappointment because the sevice and ambience was good.

Stumbled upon the Stag by chance. Friendly staff, good beer, bar food was good and came quick . Bit expensive but not excessive.

Lovely village pub with a small but welcoming bar and a larger restaurant to the rear. Had a couple of drinks in the front bar and some banter with the locals before moving on to a meal in the restaurant. The special, Honey baked ham served on a bed of mash was great! There was a good friendly atmosphere and the staff whilst busy were polite and attentive. The manager made a point of stopping by to introduce him self which was a nice touch. Having noticed on the boards outside that more pub style specials are in the offing, we will be going back soon.

What a lovely night I had at this pub. The atomosphere was great, from the small but cosy bar area with its real fire, to the restaurant round the other side of the building. Friendly attentive staff and fab food always makes a great combination. Its the only one in the village but I say lucky village!

I don't like to complain unless I'm really annoyed and this unfortunately was the case last Saturday. I've been to the Stag 3 times - the first 3 years ago for dinner was great. The second, we had a big problem, and the third we left in disgust.

My problem is with the matre d' - he consistently acts like you, the customer have 'got it wrong' and has actually told me I was an inconvenience. Within common decency, I don't care how much of an inconvenience my party is - they should try to accomodate and The Stag in mentmore would not. All the other staff seemed fine.

The crux was that we made special notice we would have 2 young children, and he was annoyed when we arrived that we were not 8 adults. They had 'lost' some high chairs they had last time so there were none. The menu had just 5 items on it. The waiter told me there was additional specials. When I dared to ask the matre d' what they were he told me really abruptly that those 5 items WERE the specials.

Several of us wanted the roast pork and we were then told by matre d' that they'd run out and that we shouldn't assume it was freezer rubbish and that if we took the time to look around, they were VERY BUSY (at 1.15pm) and that if we'd like to wait an hour there might be more available.

This was the last straw. When I went to have a quiet word, he wanted to argue, not listen, said I was an inconvenience and that I must pay for the drinks before we left (which we hadn't drunk!)

No reply from the website in complaint.

Great location, but very quiet, even on a saturday afternoon. My girlfriend and i drove over here with the intention of having lunch today but after being charged 10.70 for a pint of strongbow and a large glass of sauvignon blanc, I got so wound up that we went straight home for a bbq ! the place feels a bit 70's and every time i've been here its like a ghost ship, so few patrons that you find yourself whispering in case the staff hear your conversation.

Pretty good pizza and pasta restaurant with a (very) small public bar.

Excellent food, beer, wine and and service in the restuarant on a sunny Friday lunchtime. Great shame not more people to give more atmosphere. Deserves more support

Oh dear, how are the mighty fallen. This place was once a mecca for those wanting very good food and good beer. My last visit saw me alone and cold in the bar at around 8 o/c. Nobody was eating in the restuarant. The flagstones looked dull and chilly. Tumbleweed drifted by in the draught....
