please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A dark, dingy pub you'd think that they would need the custom. But no, the old guy behind the bar was rude and then refused to serve me. My crime? Asking for my round twice, as he didn't acknowledge my request the first time. Thought he hadn't heard. Obviously he did, then took umbrage. Ignorant, rude and bad mannered. The staff represent the manger and the manager needs to remember this. Will never set foot in the place again.

Much better than it was but not as good as our pub the Bowling Green.

New managers should come and see us and see how to run a proper pub

Change of Landlord/Lady 'coming down the pike'.
Mistlethrush - 27 May 2013 12:08
Not a very nice pub to first walk into... you go through the door and its a long narrow dark corridor with the bar on one side and people sat opposite it like a hospital waiting room corridor, the people who then all stop and turn to look at you, like in an old Western. Seemed to be rooms leading off this corridor but it felt very unwelcoming, and quite cramped, and not very nice considering the size of the place on the outside!

oh dear up for sale what a shame ?
rivingtonrogue - 6 Aug 2011 21:20
Leffe on tap, ah bliss!
yamato - 15 Feb 2011 14:38

You need to travel more.....!

the most depressing pub I have ever been in
carlsberg - 2 Jan 2010 23:40
pleasant staff, beer ok but very expensive compared to rest of town
bitterend - 13 Apr 2009 19:56
Quite a few people we know drink in the bridge so we wandered up there for a drink t'other night just for a change of scene ... twas very busy, the staff were friendly, but afraid the drinks are far too expensive ...
bonnie.n.clyde - 1 Apr 2009 12:44
I've served my time working through the Camra Good Beer Guide, I don't need advice thanks.
inspectorblakey - 27 Aug 2008 17:03
Dear inspectorblackey
I am all in favour of people drinking Holts beer as I am equally in favour of people drinking methadone or turps. Perhaps a pint of real beer would change your mind. May I suggest you locate youself in a decent pub and try some Dark Mild (Bowling Green- Horwich) or perhaps some Roosters Bitter (Crescent-Salford). I do recall that the Bridge served a decent pint of Flowers not that long ago. Apparently no call for it anymore, very sad as real ale is now all too rare in Horwich. When Holts is the only option I suggest joining the temperance movement!
yamato - 26 Aug 2008 22:59
Obvious from his comments on this and other posts that Yamato doesn't like Holt's beer,(not a guest beer by the way), does that mean other people shouldn't drink it?
Sorry you were 'forced' to drink Joey's, strange choice if you don't like Holt's beer.
inspectorblakey - 26 Aug 2008 10:27
Inspectorblackey, it sounds as if all that rubbish beer has impaired your senses. Holts is without doubt the worst cask beer there is, every new variation that appears is even more appaling than the last. Has anyone out there had the misfortune to taste a pint of Holt's latest offering 'Joey', I rest my case.
yamato - 20 Aug 2008 11:01
Another one of Horwich's failing pubs, very quiet most nights of the week including fridays which used to be very busy indeed.
Despite previous comments about the beer bieng good the only real ale on is Holts as the landlord claims there is "no call for it" and seems happy to concentrate on selling vastly overpriced lagers to the handfull of regulars that have not moved on to new and much cheaper pastures.
boltonbloke - 15 Aug 2008 12:55
Yamato, excellent Holt's bitter only 1.80 a pint and you're complaining?
Nowt at all wrong with it,I've drunk plenty of it.
inspectorblakey - 12 Aug 2008 20:52
Best pub in Horwich at moment good beer
horwichterry - 10 Aug 2008 01:27
Very pleasant early evening session. Pity that the guest beer was Holts Bitter. That said we made up for this unfortunate state of affairs by sampling the lovely Belgian Leffe. Good atmosphere, attentive bar staff. Apart from a good pint of bitter, what more could you ask for?
yamato - 8 Aug 2008 10:16
My family and I were invited to a 30th Birthday Party here last week.

The room upstairs was clean, and well heated, the drinks were of a reasonable price, We came from Brighton so found them cheap by comparison, and the two staff on the bar were very friendly, and helpful.

I did however have casue to complain about the large number of Mixer Bottles that were woefully out of date, One instance a J2o if my memory is correct was Sepetember 06'.

These were promptly removed and substituded, but surley this is the kind of houskeeping duites that should be done on a week to week basis, and not on a bi-annual term.

DonG - 8 Feb 2008 16:35
continues to be expensive but smoking ban has improved things inside
bitterend - 29 Oct 2007 20:07
Can't agree with the last posting. I was there, so was the landlady, David, her son was chatting to the customers. I sit close the corner of the bar, if we're talking about the lobby side of the pub. I heard nothing to complain about. O k the music is sometimes loud, but come on, loosen up or stay at home.
chufferd - 7 Sep 2007 17:30
Tried the Bridge again on sat night,(sep 1st)
Big mistake. Fat, gobby bird sat at the corner of the bar, foul mouthing loudly, just audible above the bar staff's personal juke box on full blast. Landlady absent, again, landlady's son stood doing nothing, again. What a tragedy! A good pub going down the toilet, which, by the way, now stinks quite badly.
anonymous - 3 Sep 2007 21:43
I'd love to reply in Spanish, but I don't speak any, apart from "A'st any Bisto"
anonymous - 3 Sep 2007 21:35
I didn't realise its gone all Spanish, I suppose i'd better join in!!

Venga almorzar Tapas sentada fuera del puente mientras que bebe la cerveza de la mal calidad que respira en humos de los lorrys que pasan!!!!
fennel - 17 Aug 2007 17:03
I think you'll find it's called improving the area!
If you had taken a closer look you might have noticed the Tapas menu, not really Parisian.
Comments from the customers so far have all been in favour, you should try it.
PS I'm a customer, though what I've written might sound like an advert for this excellent pub.
inspectorblakey - 15 Aug 2007 08:46
Why suddenly has it turned into a parisien cafe?????????
anonymous - 6 Aug 2007 19:43
I have to agree with the negitive comments about this place but I fear they won't stay on here long. The landlady genuinely belives she runs the best pub in Horwich and reports comments for removal rather than take an objective view of them and see how she can improve things.
Due to Davids love of Man U and inviting away fans in after a match this pub has probally had more Police vists and replacement windows than any other pub in the town, he's certainly had more black eyes than any other landlord I can recall!!
What do they expect in an area were BWFC are based?

fennel - 7 Jul 2007 18:13
Does the landlady still carry comments around in her handbag? this pub is too loud an normally full of yobs
townie - 2 Jul 2007 15:03
Went in here for the first time in over two years last Saturday, the Staff seem more interested in using there mobile phones behind the bar than serving the customer, the landlady caught one and told him off...it did'nt stop him...AVIOD THIS PUB
anonymous - 23 May 2007 13:14
Liveley, loud and with rooms to hide away in. Beer a bit pricey compared with others in town. Basically OK.
anonymous - 11 Feb 2007 20:12
I've never really seen the appeal of this pub, its smokey, dingy and expensive for beer that can be quite variable, the Holts bitter is not a patch on the Crown and thats not one of my favorite pubs either. Service is normaly good if the landlady is about, she's pretty keen on and keep an eye on her staff.
fennel - 8 Feb 2007 00:14
I think there is a lot to bed said for the Bridge. Yes it's a tad pricey, and sometimes Christine/landlady gets drunk (hello? she lives in a PUB!!) but it still has atmosphere, and is a lively place to be most nights. I like it, and considering Dave and Christine have been there for about 14 years, they can't really be doing much wrong. If you don't like it, don't go, simple. x
waffleprincess - 13 Jan 2007 03:55
Has long needed the extractor fans fixing, although probably my most visited pub in Horwich, weekends and evenings (especially football days) required a respirator due to all the bloody smoke.
Landlord Dave always happy to dish out some friendly verbal abuse, but they don't put up with idiots much in there, and for this reason, although it has it's faults it's still probably the best pub in Horwich.
(No, I haven't been asked to post here by the staff, I don't live in Horwich anymore sadly)
Akita47 - 12 Dec 2006 15:29
Was good in the old days, used to be an insitution when everyone used to go in.. not sure why?, must have been the old guy who was landlord with the fantastic tash, the dog was good feature.

Now mega expensive, smokey, juke-box is something out of a rave-club, recently redocrated with some strange theme - was better before.

Preffered it with bouncers on the door - at least made you stop before you went in and question yourself as to why you were going in.....

the_ox - 13 Oct 2006 07:56
yes its one of the more expensive pubs in Horwich unless you drink Holts, it is busy and noisy and can be heavy on the smoke (not for much longer) so I vote with my feet and only ever call in for a drink mid week
bitterend - 24 Apr 2006 20:19
I've been in the Bridge tonight drinking excellent Holt's bitter at 1.60 a pint, not 2.70 (though some people, Londoners etc. would probably consider 2.70 quite reasonable)
I was playing for the Bridge quiz team tonight and both teams also received a free supper at no cost whatsoever (despite the home team's c**p results)
I have a feeling that most of the recent negative comments have been posted by a disgruntled ex-member of staff.
anonymous - 19 Apr 2006 23:31
Where do I start? 1. Yes the music can be loud! Why? Because people are in and have paid money to listen to it ( if the pub is busy it's noisy! Der, get it Rivington?) gawd it don't take a scientist to work that one out! 2. Yes, a certain member of staff does seem to favour the male end of the public, but on the whole the rest are curteous, pleasant and smiling!!! 3. Please tell me when the staff have re-filled a near empty glass? this is against health and hygiene and as far as I'm concerned, I've always seen the staff use a new glass!! 4. I agree with the comment that you can go in a stranger and come out a friend, you couldn't meet a friendlier bunch of people, - Chris, Dave and Paul make everyone welcome, - but in saying that, they don't have the 'tracksuit brigade in'!! 5. Sorry, we don't drink cask ale - though many do - and sorry, but yet again we've never heard a bad comment! Look, for goodness sake, give the place a try, its an experience, lively, with atmosphere, and a definate place to visit away from the usual riff raff of Horwich.
anonymous - 18 Apr 2006 23:38
The bar staff top up your drink when you've a little bit left and you get agitated?
We should all be so lucky!
anonymous - 18 Apr 2006 18:55
Yes the music can be loud but that is due to the land lady's son, he always plays his music really loud, he even does it when his mother is there! I do get abit aggitated when the bar staff top up my drink when i have a little bit left.
anonymous - 17 Apr 2006 21:40
This place has scope for everyone. A large room at the front with pool table for the younger end, another large room to the rear with curved seating round tables for chatting and a bar, vault and lobby for the rest. Visit at weekends, all those people can't be wrong.
chufferd - 17 Apr 2006 18:02
A pub I've used ocasionally for 10+ years and I'm still rather feelingless about it. Comments about the variable standard of the cask beers are certainly on the mark, the staff can be a bit uninterested, out of all the pubs in Horwich this is the one where I nearly always have to ask to have my glass topped up! Music can be too intrusive as mentioned, and I fail to see why this is connected to how busy the pub is. Has the usual Horwich/Bolton football obsession with large screen TV but you can at least get away from it. Worth a visit - go there, have a drink and form your own opinions!
Rivington - 17 Apr 2006 17:44
I'm very sorry to here about these comments, i've been going in there for a long time and i haven't really had any problems apart from the fact that there is one bar staff that never smiles, unless your young, free and single she will smile for you. All other bar staff are hard working and are always smiling. As for the music yes it can be abit loud but the reason for that is that it always busy in there. The social side of the bridge is good you can walk in there a stranger but come out as a friend.
nugget - 17 Apr 2006 03:45
My last vist to this pub was not a success, after waiting around five minutes for a member of staff to finish her conversation with her friend I was begrudgingly served a pint of sour bitter. My request to have it changed was greeted with much tut-ing and slamming about. Its replacement was no better so I asked for a different drink, she looked at me as though she had just caught me having sex with her mother but she duly poured me another pint but insisted on charging me the difference. I won't return in a hurry.
boltonbloke - 29 Mar 2006 21:15
Lively pub (at the weekend - pleasantly quiet at other times) with nice decor - definitely one you could take your parents to. Cask beer is a bit variable despite the supposed 'cask marque' award - I tend to stick to lager here. Proper pool and billiards tables too.
Syl - 28 Mar 2006 13:43
Nice pub, one draught bitter (Holts, 1.50 a pint),lots of lager, no food.
It's looking a bit tatty these days, needs some brighter lighting.
The noisy mp3 jukebox is driving out some the older customers, the staff turn it up to full volume when the landlady's not about. (It's still bleedin' loud when she is)
anonymous - 26 Sep 2005 09:33
Legendary exception to the first rule of the Horwich pub crawl - "Never stray from the left hand side of the road".

(NB. The first rule of the Horwich pub crawl must be reversed if you decide to start at the bottom of the hill and work up. But if you decide this, you're a bit wrong and deserve everything you get anyway)

Saves you money on cigarettes, as spending five minutes inside makes you feel like you've chain-smoked a pack of twenty. Used to be cheap, now one of the most expensive pubs in Horwich, yet somehow it still has a strange attraction..... Maybe its the Wild Turkey.
wizzard - 1 Mar 2005 19:28
