Large, generic GK does food/offers drinks at funny prices. Plumped for a pint of GK IPA Reserve (5.4%) which was priced at £2.64. Nice pint although tasted slightly chilled. Filled with locals and trades at 9pm on a Thursday night. Several big screens kept me abreast of what was going on in the sporting world via Sky Sports. Apparently, Ravel Morrison is to be loanded out to QPR for the rest of the season. How the mighty have fallen. Nice barmaid.

After a brief time nenamed The Chameleon, The Dolphin has now been taken over by Greene King (again). It's been refurbished and now has an extensive food menu.

As Greene King are running the place, it has a selection of GK beers on handpumps (IPA, Old Speckled Hen, Abbot Ale, etc), served to a good standard. For IPA, they even let you choose between Northern style pouring (creamy - ie through a sparkler) or Southern (bright).

I'm pretty impressed with this pub - I just hope it can survive.

Regarding the comment about the ales being dispenced through sparklers. Well, I have investigated this and found it not to be true! The hand pull pumps do not have sparklers on them, the ale dispenced is simply kept correctly and comes out a bit lively, as it should. The new lease holders are here to stay and from what I have heard from the locals they are doing an amazing job with what used to be a problem pub!

i worked in this pub for 4 years and i have to say that the improvement made by kate and nick is amazing. They have changed alot and i hope this encourages people to return to the pub as it is not what it used to be! The food and service has changed dramatically!

Yes, two beers, Abbot Ale and IPA. Both undrinkable and both poured through foamers ("sparklers"). Certainly nothing like real ale - try the Dereham Arms if you want to see quality.

Food is cheap and plentiful, but nothing to write home about in terms of quality. Some of the clientel were a little threatening and the language unrestrained, making the whole experience a bit unpleasant.

It could have been an off day, but it really wan't up to standard

Further to reading the gentlemans comments regarding the quality of ale at the Dolphin I would have to dissagree. I have visited the pub a number of times and being an ale drinker I have never had an issue with the beer served. There are always at least 2 ales being served, which in this day and age is better than most can offer.
Well done.

Visited the Dolphin on Saturday 9th September, 2006. I'd just watched the football at the Golden Fleece and thought I'd pay a visit to the newly opened Dolphin to see what it was like.

Unlike the Golden Fleece, it was very quiet, and unfortuantely the beer was very poor. I asked for an Abbot Ale which tasted like vinegar. The bartender then had to seek permission from the landlord/landlady to change my pint. So I decided to have a Greene King IPA (the only other choice). I then had to ask for a refund (as this wasn't offered) given the Abbot Ale was more expensive than the Greene King IPA. I managed to drink 1/2 of the IPA and decided to call it a day.

Very disappointing to visit a pub that doesn't know how to keep and serve Real Ale.

The Dolphin has recently been taken over by a young couple who have an extensive background in the trade. The day after they took over the police moved in to continue the search in the forest. With this burden hanging over them they have changed the dull and boring venue into a place where you can eat from a great menu and relax in welcoming suroundings. I wish them both well, and as a local resident I am glad there are now people there who enjoy giving their customers a great and memorable time.
