Soon to start serving pub type food.

Comfortable well-used local with some good beer selections, including, when we visited a few weeks ago, one from local brewery Cronx.
There was a darts match taking place and when the sandwiches came out for the teams we were offered some. Marvellous hospitality!
The landlord mentioned that refurbishments were due to take place and we expressed the hope that the "traditional local" ambience wouldn't be ruined. He assured us it wouldn't, so we'll see.
Cheers,
AR

Have just read a couple of reviews of this pub (cloverleaf and Toni01) and am horrified that certain individuals can be so malicious. These comments are clearly from someone that obviously could not get their own way or is trying to cause trouble for decent hard working folk and have a grudge/vendetta against these people. You obviously are in a different world to the rest of the NORMAL world. This pub is fantastic so please try it you will not be disappointed so don t listen to these individuals who clearly don t know a good pub when they see one.

I gather the Thai food has not been profitable, so is no longer available.
An excellent pub.
Has community events - outings, quizzes, and so forth.
The beer is reported good - I usually have to drive . . . .
food is available nearby - a (jolly good) chippy, a Chinese, and cafe, plus a garage and a Londis that do snacks for day-time drinkers - all within about 40 yards [36 metres for the kids!].

Good eight.

Excellent pint of Guiness can be had at the Smugglers, one of the best I have had including Ireland.

Started going here recently after hearing they do Thai food. The food is excellent, recommend the thai sausages as a starter. The beer is good too. The staff have only been there for a few weeks and they seem very friendly. You can order the food to take away.

just registered and wanted to express my comments.
the smugglers inn is a locals pub and has a good variety of customers which many of them would say that it is run very well, with good staff I WOULD SAY THE SAME i always knew the pub and the landlord and yes he does know what he is doing running a pub.
with some comments on this website, some people do not know the people involved.
i myself yet again must stress i get the blame for the last comment put on this website.
and yet again people will not leave others to get on with their lifes.
this is my only comment on this website and my last!
so i hope someone is happy that yet again people point fingers without facts.

Moved to the area a short while ago, Spotted this public house looks very well kepted thought I would like to visit, and when I did I was very pleasantly surprised the service was very good and the beer was great. Did think to myself something has to go wrong and it did, and concerned me. Maybe I'm stuck in my ways but when I noticed that the Landlord seems to know what he is doing I did find it hard except that the lady beside him was in fact the Landlady. Not to sure but she is alot younger that himself and doing my math I would say at least a good 20years younger? But I did find it hard to take in, I do know that I would'nt be taking my granddaughter in for an afternoon beverage.
As said I did like this public house and would go in there again. Just not with younger company.

Walked past the pub a few times and always commented on how nice and welcoming it looks. The landlord has clearly made a huge effort for his customers with regards to the smoking ban, awning, heaters, lights it is fantastic. Went in for a drink and ended up eating - a new Thai menu which was out of this world. Every dish is cooked fresh from scratch. Not got a bad word to say - only bad thing the landlady is already spoken for, no wonder the landlord id always smiling.

What can I say...fantastic. Ate there yesterday with the wife, food was brillant, both had a bottle of wine - alot to choose from. Sat outside under new awning, front of the pub looks beautiful, flowers and herb garden give a nice touch. Staff were excellent. Will be coming back next Sunday(5th August) when they start Sunday lunches.

Normally pop into this bar during the day when they have the racing on - bookies across the road. Never any trouble in there, the people are really friendly

Ate in the pub yesterday lunchtime, food was out of this world, had Beef Wellington, it was the best I have ever eaten. The atmosphere was perfect and the staff very friendly. Love the way it has been decorated, so much time and effort put in but very much appreciated. Will be back!!!!

Lovely pub ! I went into this pub for a meal and a drink on a friday evening. The decor is lovely, the food is lovely, the beer was spot on. It has the charm of an old english pub.

Oh my goodness popped in last week to try the new food menu - it is out of this world, the food was amazing, portions were huge, I was informed all food is homemade each day on site. Service was excellent, staff very friendly and incredibly helpful. Bar well stock. Smoking has already been banned in the dinning area. Overall great atmosphere, even better food will definately be going back!

An unusual pub. Very smoky in the winter but the management is great and try really hard. It's a locals pub but they are really welcoming. Clientelle are normally all grown ups and has a nice cross section of beers. It's like one of those not beautiful but strangely attractive girls!
bobbleofcoulsdon - 24 Mar 2006 19:03
Very welcoming and 'user-friendly' pub ... even if you don't smoke! Nice atmosphere.
SkibbGirl - 23 Feb 2006 20:34
Smart pub, with sport on the TV, and a convenient bus stop [166 and 434].
Always seems to have a happy clientele [and they're often over 40, too!
railtracksurvivor - 11 Jul 2005 15:49
Good quality beer, but very smokey during the winter when all the doors and windows are shut. They have got extractor fans but they dont do much !
anonymous - 8 Mar 2005 20:31
The cheapest beer in the area, no longer have food however they do put freebee food out occasionally which is a nice touch. Definatly a locals pub more suited to males rather than females. Does tend to get very smokey, not recommended if you dont smoke, better in summer when the doors are open.

Locals' pub in row of shops near Woodmansterne Station. Not as bad as it looks
