user reviews of the Crown Hotel, Manningtree

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The only good point is the beer garden - which due to being overexploited by the landlady means they cannot cope with food orders when you go there to take advantage of the views. Food is terrible quality and overpriced too. Soft drinks prices are astronomical and the pub is NOT child friendly at all - staff extremely inhospitable to children. Waited an hour for food with no apology to find the quality was awful - panninis arrived with burnt tuna from somebody elses meal stuck to the bread!
You have been warned - families avoid at all cost!

went to this pub about a month ago. drinks are quite expensive! Staff are unfriendly and unfortunately on top of that had to complain about the food. It was tasteless and just slopped on the plate and it wasnt even very busy. I live locally and heard not great things about it, but thought i would give it a go as I hadnt been there in quite a while. I wish i had not bothered. What a shame, I feel it really lets Manningtree down. On a good note, the only one I feel, are the views from the pub garden.

One of my favourites, never had a bad evening there. Even the live music is not intrusive in the dining area.

The wait for food on a Saturday lunchtime of over an hour is quite unacceptable. One could hear the arguing from the kitchen as the staff squabbled with each other. Otherwise potentially a nice pub.

The Crown is one of my fav pubs, real ale, real food, real atmosphere, really lovely landlady and all other bar staff. In the summer the view across the river is beautiful, the best unwind with a pint I've found in North essex. The accommodation attached makes it a good stop over to explore the area, good breakfast on a Sunday too.

Nice atmosphere, building has a lot of character, average prices. Non-smoking diners have the luxory of a dedicated non-smoking room. Food decidedly average.
