Now called the Cornfield Garage. Typical Wetherspoons, either good or bad depending on your view of the chain.

Now doubled in size - apparently Spoons spent £4 million on it. The beer range seems to have increased as well, and the staff look and act smart and professional. Now better, in my opinion, than the other Spoon opposite the station.

Has there been a change of management here recently ? Been coming here for years mostly with my dog. Its quite pleasant to sit out the back and have a couple of beers and a meal. Range of beers was rather pitiful yesterday with only really Young's and Snecklifter of any note. Both were really too cold for me. Anyway, I was asked to drink up and leave as dogs are not allowed in the "garden".

Only one guest ale of note amongst the usual dross. On the hand, the cider festival was well supported with six boxes on show in the cabinet at any one time. Clean toilets, no sticky tables. Very lively on a Saturday night with a good crowd from the younger generation in the bar. An enjoyable visit.

The worst range of cask beer I've seen at a Wetherspoons in a long while - only Marstons, Ruddles and GK on? Quality OK, but the Lloyds bar in Eastbourne had a far better range.

When we last visited this place a few years back we thought it dreadful both with its ASBO type dole money customers making you feel on edge together with the couldn't-care-less, curt staff serving dodgy beer and even worse food. Now, popping in for a pint on a weekday lunchtime (as before) we're pleased to say things have greatly improved the ASBO lot are gone and the efficient, friendly staff now motivated. Although we didn't eat, even the food being served looked edible now! The rear courtyard looks like it's been extended too. Mainly elderly customers and mums with their young offspring but all seem too behave and gel together.

Very well kept JDW. Motivated and friendly staff. Fine range of beers all well served. Usual food but very good. Especially the breakfasts. Clean and well furnished interior. Entrance looks welcoming. Lovely rear garden. Superb toilets and NO STAIRS. Local (heavy) drinkers not a problem.

Like other comments, typical Wetherspoons. Staff work hard but the atmosphere cn be unpleasant. Lots of old soaks who can't mutter a sentance without a four letter word coming out. Shame as it's central and handy. However slightly dodgy crowd.

Back in September while on a visit to Eastbourne we (wife on the same trip) had breakfast three days on the trot - usual sustaining freshly cooked meal. We also visited it two or three time in the evening when we had a meal, which were fine, and I also sampled the excellent range of ales on offer. Every one I tried were in excellent condition and I would recommend anyone to visit this Wetherspoons which is a good pub with staff who try very hard.

Pretty much the same as all the other Weatherspoons I've been in, but one can't fail to be impressed with the beer selection, I counted 15 real ales on. I wouldn't come in here for the atmosphere, but it's excellent value.

Visited on Sat lunchtime so full of OAP's, Kid's in Pushchairs etc. Very full but the food is very reasonable but you pay for what you get. Wine was drinkable as was the lager. Good service from guys behind the bar. Very similar to all other JD Wetherspoons, no atmosphere and too big.

Not a bad pub, an oasis in a er...larger oasis that is Harvey's. 1.79 for Steenbrugge Blonde at 6% and Elgoods CXXX. No Harvey's of course and no other local beers either. Still, beer was cheap, unusual and well kept - enough said.

A fairly standard 'spoons, housed in the former Cornford Garage building (which preserved facade also gives the pub an alternative name). Quite a respectable selection of ales from the current International Beer Festival range, including a slightly over-flavoured Caledonian's Raspberry Fool and a splendid Brains Dark. Overall, nothing to write home about but I've been to a lot worse...

Was so packed on the Friday night when I stuck my head through the door I went elsewhere, but came back the next morning, mainly for a cooked breakfast, and was a bit disappointed to find only two guest ales on. Ale quality was adequate though, and my farmhouse breakfast was was very tasty and excellent value.

Lots of bitters and standard lagers are available as you would expect in a Spoons. My lager was cheap and rank as you would also expect in a Spoons. Its a big pub, but probably smaller than the average Spoons. It is very bright with a glass front and back that both open up and a large sky light.

There is a courtyard out the back with a few tables and chairs. The staff should make more of an effort to clean the tables as the sea gulls that flock around the half eaten plates are loud and annoying. The staff may be slow in clearing tables, but I found them to be very efficient behind the bar.

There is lots of seating inside and a couple of plasma screens that show Sky news. I was amazed at the amount of pissed up old boys in here, even for a Spoons. I saw a drunken Irish pensioner fall off his chair and take his table and Guinness with him after trying to hit a sea gull of a wall with a handful of chips. Not something you see every day!

This is not a great pub and Ill not be returning.

went in hear last Saturday around 6.30pm and was reasonably quite, usual JDW set up but the food was hot and very nice, also had a couple of pints of very nice local ale,so all in all i would definately give it another go

Well, it's Wetherspoon, and you know what to expect. As JDW's go this isn't bad at all, so obviously improved since the last posters visited. Efficient service, didn't have to wait too long for the food, and the tables were cleared promptly. One downside was a spectacular lack of knowledge about the real ales on offer, so that's gotta be the next to improve.

This is the worst managed house that I have ever visited. How can any capable area manager allow such nonsense for so long? Unless this place is a reflection on his or hers ability ... hope you're reading Mr Martin.
KITCHEN - 6 Jun 2007 15:42
Visited on a Wednesday lunchtime, wasnt that busy but service was slow at the bar. Ordered food and had to reorder as had ran out of jacket pots? WHat we did order arrived after quite a wait, wasnt that hot and others seemed to be sending their food back to the kitchen.Tables werent cleared after people left.Felt bit sorry for the staff as they were taking the flack, manager seemed to be like a headless chicken and didnt have a grip on what was happening.
Will try again only to see if its improved.
largeone - 15 Apr 2007 15:23
definitly improved vastly in the last year, barstaff are always pleasant,
served quickly, good beer and food is good to, what more can you ask for, as far as wetherspoons go this is one of the better ones ive been in

02061979 - 23 Jul 2006 20:26
Not the best Wetherspoons I've ever been in for food or service. Once had a meal with 12, yes I was outraged enough to count, 12 chips on the plate. Same for my fella, you could see the bottom of his plate in the middle there was so little food on it. Funny for spotting all the sex-hungry chavs on a weekend night, charming enough in the daytime. There are always lonely old men in Wetherspoons and this place is no exception. Best avoided on the weekend and any evening really, although you can never really say no to cheap booze, can you?
kutiepie6662003 - 17 Feb 2006 23:46
A typical Wetherspoons, cheap (and nasty) beer. Cheap (and nasty) food.
The only thing that makes this Wetherspoons stand out is the fact that this pub always stinks of old man wee.
steviep - 8 Jan 2006 19:28
I have not heard of this Wetherspoons being called the Earl of Burlington although some of the regulars may well refer to it by that name.It is a typical Wetherspoon, cheap booze and food but unlike some the service is o.k and there is a small pleasant outside patio area. Not a destination pub but perhaps the best watering hole in town when shopping creates the need for liquid refreshment!
