The pub is under new management and I feel this is the last chance for the pub to return to it's glory days. It's supporting this once great pub providing the new manager can keep the idiots away!!

large and loud pub with cask Tetley.
oftenscore6 - 1 Jul 2007 18:09
Someone has bought the lease on this pub! Why? I only hope that the standards of this pub improve drastically, as the beer has gone up a lot, and soft drinks are extortionate. Rumour has it that 29,000 was spent refurbishing the place - you can't tell from looking, apart from the painted brickwork. Beer not to my standard. Let's have a pub to be proud of - we've been waiting years!
ginomendozauk - 24 May 2007 14:01
I used to work here for about 4 years, the regulars and the Management at the time was were amazing. Since I've left, all I've seen is the steady decline of this pub and all but the die hard regulars move to the Quarry, Moss Trouper and other pubs nearby. I firmly believe this is due to the way Allied Domeq (Calsberg-Tetley) has stifled the development of this pub. Given its position in the centre of Timperley, surely it's a prime candidate to be one of their "Big Steak" pubs, with a proper restaurant and maybe even a couple B&B rooms!? Try it out, but the Quarry is better!

pub gone right down hill think it only stays a float due to the regulars menu not bad but only for a few hours need new landlord quick bring back sean or dave

ladysmudge - 16 Feb 2007 22:34
No Bombadier anymore and food is only on for a couple of hours at lunchtime. Bitter not so good. Try the Quarry Bank instead where the beer is consistantly good and food excellent.
anonymous - 28 Sep 2006 12:00
I wish people would stop going on about sean... he wasnt all that! The managers have done the best they can given the circumstances and the staff are great and at least you can have a laugh with them. Dont know about new menu though and heard prices are due to rise which is a shame.
honkyman - 31 Aug 2006 15:42
the pub is not going down hill its just the time of year where people are at home with family, the staff are great in there and very efficiant and friendly, as are the lan lord and lan lady
anonymous - 4 Aug 2006 00:06
This pub is going downhill since sean left. The new landlord and landlady just dont seem to care maybe due to the fact the pub is going on lease. they could try to be friendly to customers in the end it is us regulars that pay there wages. Still great staff and locals that go in though
anonymous - 14 Jul 2006 09:06
The staff at The Stonemasons are fantastic and efficient and I'd go as far to say they are the most friendly bar staff in the Altrincham area. The food is gorgeous and the entertainment side is brilliant. Especially the darts night and the quiz night. Dan and Kelly Ann really care about the pub and it shows.
anonymous - 20 Feb 2006 10:20
Staff are too inexperienced. One of them is positively childish and extremely annoying - can ruin session. You often have to wait ages to be served, and then have to ask them to top-up pint. Food on form again though.
anonymous - 18 Feb 2006 13:13
I have heard that this place is changing to leasehold soon. Not sure what will happen to the new management at that point.
anonymous - 27 Jan 2006 11:24
Management are fab, great quiz nights!! This is a great place for a session, will be going back there very soon!! PS the dart board isn't in the food area, it's at the opposite side of the pub.
christine32 - 25 Jan 2006 12:09
Has improved lately with the introduction of Bombardier. Only downside is the disappointing food.
ginomendozauk - 27 Dec 2005 10:10
After a quick visit granted on a busy Saturday I was suprised to find it had changed quite a bit in the couple of months since I was last in. I would advise you all to make up your own mind on it. But I wasn't greatly impressed by the changes, possiblly it just needs some time too bed down. I think the closure of the Broomwood may also be affecting it's aptmosphere. Not to my taste anymore but I'm sure some people will like the changes.
BigJapp2 - 3 Dec 2005 14:16
In response to the previous message Sean was a good manager and really left the pub in good stead. However the managers are a breath of fresh air. They have brought some fantastics ideas to the pub like the darts tournament, armchair arnie & question of the day. Also the atmosphere seems more relaxed. Keep up the good work.
anonymous - 16 Nov 2005 13:12
Not been in here for a couple of months since Shaun left, but I'm hearing mixed reviews of the new management. I also believe they have put in a dart board, only problem is that it's right in the middle of the raised food area. Make sure your wear a flack jacket if your eating up there or it may be a quick trip to A&E.
BigJapp2 - 15 Nov 2005 14:04
Great pub, nice people and excellent quiz night on a Sunday.
anonymous - 24 Aug 2005 15:51
First time back in there recently, still as good as ever. The extended patio in the beer garden is a stroke of genius in this weather. Excellent beer at excellent price.
anonymous - 2 Aug 2005 14:18
local pub very friendly, good food, nice bunch of people espeacially in the day, Landlord seems nice and has a good mix of ebtertainment in the evening. Shame there was no family day this bank holiday
ladysmudge - 4 May 2005 21:29
my first pub , my first pint, about 24 years ago mmmmmmmmmmmmmm yum yum , but actually was in there about 2 months ago when passing through and it was still ace - totally diff of course but very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere - it brought a teeny leetle tear to my eye lol
nsmith1212 - 27 Apr 2005 22:07
Great local pub that gets the basics right (good beer, clean tables, no trouble). The landlord does a great job - he's in control of the staff and the punters. The Stonies is a local pub, so I wouldn't travel miles to visit, but if you're in the local area, and you want to visit a friendly, safe, clean pub for a good pint, you can't beat it.
Paul - 24 Oct 2004 13:10
This pub is by far the best pub in Timperley.
1) A fantastic & friendly atmosphere.
2) Low prices.
3) Staff on the whole do a good job.
4) The pub is well kept and clean.
5) Trouble at the pub is rare and when it has occured the management have sorted it out quickly backed up with instant barring.
Downside
1) Entertainment is on the poor side. A quiz night would be great!

Mexican Mike - 8 Oct 2004 12:42
this pub just gets better and better JUMP THE PUMP IS BACK ON FRIDAY NIGHTS
KATE &GREG - 2 Sep 2004 16:38
very good pub with a lively atmosphere, especially on a thursday night. landlord from yorkshire, never mind he means well. great group of people in the vault.
warby.john.broomwood.upper.timperley - 20 Aug 2004 00:22
The 2 big screens for the football and other sports is great.I don,t mind the kids either,I used to go to school with them.
This is now the best pub in Timperley with the best bitter, prices and atmosphere.

Warby - 12 Aug 2004 14:55
""Yes there are televisons in the rooms and yes there are football fans, what pub doesnt have them?""
The Quarry Bank doesn't!!! It has a television but only in the vault - not in ALL rooms..the toilets are seem to be always clean too.. I know pubs are run as businesses and as a consequence have to cater for the majority ... obviously the majority of people in the area of the Stonemasons are football fans with kids.. I Hope the business reaps lots of profits during this silly season..
barbara - 15 Jun 2004 10:12
Got to disagree with the comment below. Yes there are televisons in the rooms and yes there are football fans, what pub doesnt have them. As for the screaming kids it is a family pub and the children usually stay in the beer garden outside, if they are inside they have to leave the pub by 7pm. I have seen the landlord enforce this policy several times.
Big Jim - 11 Jun 2004 18:12
Televisions in all rooms, screaming children in all rooms, shouting, filthy toilets, 100's of football supporters, the only thing going for it is cheap beer, and food served till 8 o clock.
Stan - 11 Jun 2004 13:42
Pub is getting a lot better over the past 2 years, full of great staff and a good manager.
Bargin beer, see you there!

sean lithgow - 28 Oct 2003 16:55
I went in there and got told to get out cos I'd drunk the dregs from my bottle of beer after they'd seen me drink the rest out of a glass - tossers
Luke - 20 Oct 2003 23:40
The prices just get better, 1.50 for a bottle of Becks. I have died and gone to heaven. Oh and theres a sign saying no baseball caps so I don't know what the fuss is about.
BigJapp2 - 13 Oct 2003 21:30
Reasonable beer and great prices although a little off the "beaten track" for a pub crawl.
Mainly a Blue pub so the Gardeners is probably better for watching football in, especially given the sea of blue shirts in the Stonies when City are at home !!
Can't complain though, every pub has its baseball brigade and this one is nearer to the Broomwood than most.
boddies_drinker - 10 Oct 2003 13:46
A great pub, being frequented by a few baseball cap types these days. A great bunch of regulars, good beer at a nice price and excellent bar staff. Check out the doubles bar :o)
BigJapp2 - 12 Aug 2003 15:06
The best pint of bitter in Altrincham. This is a well run nice friendly pub with all the amenities you could want for a great night out.Mainly a Blue pub who are always good for a laugh !
