Worried the bar staff for an excellent Blond Witch, sampled a Joey Holt and it was superb. The place to be.

Cracking selection of beers with a great vibe
Mistlethrush - 27 May 2013 11:40
Called here for a beer but could not get in the pub for smokers stood inside the entrance, they would not move to allow us in so we went elsewhere.
Note to landlord, they are smoking on the premises which means you are breaking the law!
boltonbloke - 17 May 2013 22:58
Ever changing selection of well kept cask beers from the smaller brewers. Such a shame that the enthusiastic landlord didn't get his hands on the pub before it's modification 15 or so years ago when most of the internal walls and some of the ceilings were removed! Still highly recommended, though.

A well deserved win of Camras Bolton pub of the year award.
Other pubs in Horwich may offer real ales but this is the only one with consistant good quality beers and effiecent staff. I can't understand why its not much busier.
boltonbloke - 2 Jun 2012 13:09
just had a beer and i must admit the pub had a great atmosphere. i can completely agree with "boltonblokes" recent comments!!!!!!!! unlike his previous ones :-(
bigladish - 13 Apr 2012 20:08
Cold, so cold. Any chance of turning the heating on?
yamato - 13 Apr 2012 12:32
Beer remains of a consistently high quality, however my enjoyment is somewhat marred by the freezing cold interior of this otherwise top class establishment.
yamato - 5 Feb 2012 15:53
A few pints of the excellent Marble 'Ginger' went down very well last night. Dave (Landlord) continues to maintain his high standards, with an ever changing range of first class ales.
yamato - 11 Nov 2011 14:40
Used to be a pub to avoid. Now it has been turned around, it is very good indeed. A lot of effort has been put into offering excellent beer, always something from smaller independants including the new Horwich brewed "Black Edge" beer. A pub that deserves support.

going up on our 'like' list! comfy seats and all that and the beers arent bad. staff could do with being a bit more friendly and more smiles wouldn't go amiss!
bonnie.n.clyde - 2 Sep 2011 12:32
Deserves to be a lot busier than it is, cracking choice of real ales that are often changed and the landlord seems enthusiastic about them. No idiots and very nice surrounding are the added bonus, the best pub in Horwich at the moment.
boltonbloke - 6 Aug 2011 17:08
Without doubt the best beer for miles. Four handpumps with three guest beers on offer, all of which have been of a consistently high quality. About time that we had somewhere to enjoy a decent pint in pleasant surroundings, and without being disturbed by the detritus inhabiting some of Horwich's more shady establishments.
yamato - 15 Feb 2011 14:20
great to see it open again ... needed a pub en route to the top end of horwich ... no riff raff, bit pricey but not as bad as the bridge ... hope it goes well!
bonnie.n.clyde - 2 Nov 2010 13:46
see the gobshite from the bridge is doing really well, and the albert is very busy never seen him with his hands in his pants though just busy pulling pints, well done mate keep it up.
rivingtonrogue - 1 Nov 2010 19:38
First visit since re-opening. I too found it better than I expected, cask beer was Ok. As long as it continues to be run to the standard that it is obviously being done at the moment - i.e. no yobs/yoof etc - it should be alright.

I had massive reservations about the new landlord but credit were it is due, David has make an excellent effort to provide Horwich with a decent pub, its certainly looks very smart and I agree with the previous poster in that he seems to have got rid of the yobs. I just hope he keeps it up.
Nice choice of decent real ales on offer and quality is leagues ahead of the Bridge.
Do us a favour though David, take your hand out of the back of your pants!!
boltonbloke - 17 Jul 2010 20:19
Recently refurbished and its lovely, sofas and comfy chairs, its a refreshing change over 21's so kids and good staff quick and friendly service they have got rid of all the idiots so you can have a nice drink in nice surroundings, this is a welcome change for horwich and i know it will do well if people give them a chance
rivingtonrogue - 15 Jul 2010 19:28
Let's give this one a chance, just maybe they can change the nature of this pub and give us a decent option.
chufferd - 13 Jun 2010 15:39
as with em all - you pays your & makes your choice. If you don't like, don't go..!
filth - 1 Jun 2010 18:43
I hear the gobshite from the Bridge has got this pub, God help us all!!
boltonbloke - 10 May 2010 20:41
Heard grumbles of this place re-opening, I pray to god they pick the Licensees right this time, good luck who ever you might be! Fingers crossed it's just a rumour though.
notforgotten - 30 Jan 2010 10:37
Still slumbering.
Borage - 9 Mar 2009 22:45
Closed again?
inspectorblakey - 23 Jul 2008 23:52
Currently closed which I would imagine is a massive relief to the local residence, i wonder who the next mug is going to be who thinks they can turn this place around?
boltonbloke - 18 Jul 2008 13:09
Sadly back to being a Yobs paradise after yet another change of landlord
boltonbloke - 8 May 2008 21:49
Not the best pint i have had! band was very good tho, but don't think i will be in a rush to go back, really need's a cleaning!
Cash - 31 Jan 2008 15:16
They still need to get it clean, took one look behind the bar !!!!!!!! and left my drink.
anonymous - 30 Oct 2007 17:24
trying hard to make it a decent boozer - some way to go but getting there
bitterend - 29 Oct 2007 19:58
They are trying their best, but need to imrove the ale Friday night had to leave it , as it was totally undrinkable
anonymous - 25 Oct 2007 18:40
Present tenants seem to be making an effort to rid the place of kids, wether it works or not remains to be seen but one thing is for sure, its destoyed the Bowling green pub as they have just moved on
fennel - 22 Oct 2007 00:42
I agree with Rivington on this one avoid it like the plague.Unless that is you are partial to a good punch up or a glass in your face.Scum of the earth frequent this place but please please keep it open so they dont descend like a plague of locusts on one of Horwich's few good boozers and ruin that to.
anonymous - 9 Oct 2007 10:31
When someone is visiting Horwich, and they ask me which pubs they should drink in, I often start by telling them to avoid The Albert at all costs. One regular Albert drinker once told me that he frequented the place "for a line of wizz, a grope of some 16 year old birds and a scrap". I think that pretty much sums it up. THE place to go if you want a pint pot in your face.
mofgimmers - 17 Sep 2007 21:24
Closed yet again, a shame that, at least when it was open it kept the dickheads out of the other pubs.
anonymous - 11 Sep 2007 20:58
I was bitterly disappointed to see this pub has re-opened after the recent forced closure
boltonbloke - 28 Jun 2007 17:13
Popular with people who can't spell, like looking at half naked teenagers and whose main concern is how cheap the beer is.
anonymous - 20 Jun 2007 21:57
I agree with townie on this one,in all honesty if we do venture out nowadays me and the mrs normally head to the albert, the beer is cheap and most nights there is live entertainment,if you like a pint o bitter over your game of dominoes whilst talking about who's died recently then this probably aint the place for you, maybe there will come a time where i find the site of semi clad vivacious teens swanning around an eyesore ,but until then bring it on
anonymous - 11 May 2007 08:25
I enjoy this pub not as bad as made out if ur up for a good nite out then this is the pub in horwich
townie - 27 Mar 2007 10:32
The worst pub in Horwich? very likely. Packed on a friday and saturday night with Elizibeth Duke adorned teenage girls with the obligatory tramp stamp tattoos screaming "leave it" and "he's not worth it" to their neanderthal boyfriends who will start a fight with anyone in the pub to prove to all around that they are not gay and don't read books.
Don't miss the friday night special of a "Bokkel" and a beating, all for 2.50.

boltonbloke - 11 Jan 2007 12:44
Never thought I'd hear that said about W & K, though you're right.
anonymous - 21 Aug 2006 15:54
mad house, Kelvin and Wanda's years look civilised
horwicher - 30 Jul 2006 10:19
I never believed that this place could get worse, but it has.
chufferd - 15 May 2006 16:23
For friday night fight night and hardcore drinkers, many of the customers look drugged up and the staff dont look friendly wud not recommend in general but like most pubs is quiet in the day and is reasonably cheap!
anonymous - 4 May 2006 21:11
Attack on customers last Saturday by somebody in the pub with a hammer. This is not what you want in a pub anywhere, I hope it gets itself in order before it gets shut down. A sad tale.
Rivington - 17 Apr 2006 17:47
Several times now I've seen customers leave the pub then p*ss up the front wall. Maybe this is another kind of review of the pub, but I tend to think that it just sums up the kind of anti-social yobs who use it. Avoid at all costs.
Rivington - 6 Apr 2006 09:22
Loud, not particularly cheap. Generally inhabited by 18 year olds - mostly chavs, or 70 year olds, with nothing inbetween.
Syl - 28 Mar 2006 13:39
Best avoided unless you like a good fight. Was refused a late license in the recent shake-up due to constant problems with noise and violence. Cast iron proof, if it were needed, that Darwin was right.
boltonbloke - 27 Mar 2006 20:50
Know called the 'Victoria And Albert' after a very expensive makeover.
Still has the same evil, idle gobshite customers
anonymous - 26 Sep 2005 20:44
I'm in complete agreement with the previous comment. I wouldn't go in if the beer was free .
anonymous - 14 Jul 2005 19:58
Full of Yobs
