please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Would have stopped here but there isn't a beer garden on a sunny day. More of a Winter Pub.
BestBeerBoffin - 3 Jun 2017 18:15
Reopened on the High Street by Stonegate, who did an excellent job on the tasteful refurbishment of this historic establishment.
tradervic - 24 Mar 2017 08:19
It isn't that often I walk into a pub then decided to leave after 2 minutes. Quite clearly the woman working here ignored me as I politely said Good Day and was blanked. There wasn't even many people at the bar on a Saturday afternoon near Christmas. I believe someone else was also wanting a drink and being ignored. Certainly poor service, and it happened months ago when eating a meal here, sorry I cannot forgive this pub for at least 3 months! 0/10 for now!.
BestBeerBoffin - 10 Dec 2016 18:23
Visited here the other day and it was being refurbished. Nothing interesting about a pub being refurbished unless it will eventually be better.
HeavyBeerPubDrinker - 19 Aug 2016 16:16
Lovely historic pub with great character. Several interesting ales on, both local and from further away. Unfortunately none of the tables suit groups of more than four persons.
Trev - 1 Aug 2014 18:51
Lovely old pub on the High Street that currently belongs to Nicholsons. It was fairly quiet on my Monday evening visit. But they still had a few ales on - Marstons Single Hop Endeavour, Cottage SS Britain, St Austell Tribute, Greene King Abbot & Sharps Doom Bar. The interior does not quite live up to the promise of the exterior. The ground floor bar has high tables and is suited to more upright drinking. The upstairs bar is reached by a spiral staircase and appears to be used more by diners. I didn't get the chance to go up. But there were a couple of groups up there. Nice building. But would have expected more from a Nicholsons pub, as they generally offer a better range of ales.
blue_scrumpy - 22 Aug 2013 19:22
Popped in here after a Glive evening and was reasonably impressed. Although a couple of the beers were the standard boring fare there were a couple of unusuals and very good the were too. A good one to visit when in the town centre as it's at the top of the High Street.
Steamer1 - 7 Mar 2013 22:32
The beers seem to be London Pride and Timothy Taylor. Both are very good - however selection is a little limited for a premium pub on top of the High Street. The food tasted good, although there have been a number of times when they are out of stock of what they are supposed to be selling. The staff try to make an effort, but they can be unfriendly at times. 6/10
JabbingJubbly - 11 Feb 2013 13:25
Dodgy beer here such as Cobra lager. Otherwise the food and atmosphere is very good, but better to stick to ales than dodgy lagers.
EyeOfTheTigerBeer - 30 Jun 2012 17:13
Small pub located at the top end of the high street, has a upstairs and downstairs area and a small outside smoking area.

Does a good selection of real ale, the TEA was only 2.70 a pint, a bargain price in Guildford.

Also does a real ale collectors card, if you buy five pints you get the sixth for free which is worth doing.

Good friendly service.
beershot - 29 Jun 2012 16:45
An above acceptable pub which is aimed more at the eating market than drinking types but this does not stop a solid selection of real ale.
EyeOfTheTigerBeer - 10 Jun 2012 20:37
Good quality ale served in decent pub and by friendly staff.
pwilkins - 21 May 2012 12:21
Popped in for a quick pint yesterday evening, very friendly and quick service, good range of beer in a nice old building if a bit small downstairs, so feels a little cramped. Did not try upstairs, but looked nice and must have nice views overlooking high street. Good town centre pub, would have no hesitation in going back if at the top end of the High Street.
fetchman - 1 Apr 2012 14:10
Thirsts come and go. Like pubs. The 3 pigeons was off my list for about 20 years but recently its excellent selection of really well kept local ales (e.g. Dorking. Surrey Hills) at near Wetherspoons prices have won me over again. A great place for a cheeky two or three while the misses is shopping ;-)
thirstybob - 24 Feb 2012 21:06
An excellent high street pub which seems to get the balance of food/beer about right.

Ales on offer were London Pride, Banks Bitter, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Hogs Back RIP, Doom Bar and Jennings Cumberland. All beers were well kept, dispensed and really reasonable for a Guildford pub. The Banks was 2.55 a pint - prices from at least 6 years ago. No pint was over 3.

The barman was extremely knowledgable on the subject of ale and was telling me he's hoping to get another ale on, maybe from the Surrey Hills range. They support both local and national brewers.

I'm absolutely staggered there more than one complaint on here about the price of beer. Yes Spoons is cheaper if you can stomach badly kept, dispensed short date beer.

Easily the best ale pub in Guildford. The menu looked varied and reasonable but as I didnt dine I cant comment. Would make an excellent stop on a shopping trip!

Worth a visit.
pdub - 5 Nov 2011 17:21
An okay sort of pub in a very nice building. Five or six real ales on offer on Monday. I thought the prices were reasonable. If anyone thinks 2.70 for a pint of Hobgoblin is overpriced they really should get out more often.
philanders - 19 Oct 2011 07:23
Spectacularly lovely exterior but not such a good interior - the beams are good but those boxy high tables and stools don't work and there's too much attempt to appeal to the continental lager set - no doubt heaves of a Friday night, although it was friendly and inoffensive on the weekday afternoon I visited.
BoehmBawerk - 7 Aug 2011 19:48
Do these pubs deserve to stay open? Everything about it is good, traditional look, beer well kept etc. but the prices are ridiculous. If I have to frequent only Spoons from now on so be it.
beernotfood - 22 Jun 2011 16:19
Well I never realised that Guildford had old fashioned buildings like this! Lovely old wooden framed pub, very traditional inside and a good selection of local beers including 2 from Hogsback Brewery, a great find in the town centre.
Hodge1 - 14 Jun 2011 06:09
Good drinkers pub 4 beers on last week and all on top form, one of Guildfords better pubs.
Dementer - 18 Apr 2011 11:51
Excellent beer. Upstairs ideal for functions - recently celebrated a birthday there. Reasonable prices, especially given location.
gtowngal - 23 Mar 2011 19:54
Good pub in Guildford town centre.

Around six real ales on offer at reasonable price for the area too, efficient bar staff and a good mix of customers.
beershot - 4 Jan 2011 13:45
One of the bar staff was very unfriendly to me. Seemed to be a real bind serving me. Won't return.
mint_julip - 25 Oct 2010 13:50
This is a lovely building at the top of the High Street. The service was good, the beer range very good (5 different ales - I had the Thwaites' Wainwright which was superb). Comfortable, friendly pub which would be a better bet for the Good Beer Guide than some in the town.
metrology_man - 25 Oct 2010 08:16
Narrow but deep pub with an upstairs area for dining. Has been decorated and the furniture refurbed as previoulsy it was looking a bit tired.

Ales on last Friday were HSB, London Pride, Taylor's Landlord, Thornbridge Wild Swan and RCH Old Slug Porter, which, served in a jug, was really tasty.
There is a small gravelled smoking area at the rear of the pub.
flashharry1965 - 31 Aug 2010 13:09
I've been going into this pub fairly infrequently over the past 18 years. It certainly has its ups and downs.

I was delighted when it made it into the Good Beeer Guide (2008 I think), but was immediately deleted when it became Farriers restaurant.

It's a pub again! And the ale range is wide and and in good condition. I had a lovely pint of Proper Job. The buy 4 get the fifth free pint promotion might be well used by me.

It still does food, but the downstairs bar is a welcoming place to just stop for a drink.
alexw123 - 13 Aug 2010 14:33
Paid a visit in the middle of the week, probably one of the better pubs in town in my opinion. Sat downstairs although there is an upstairs area which would have been nicer, they are unclear though and it gives the impression this is merely for diners and not those just after a pint. As many as 6 real ales on and the Proper Job beer was pretty good. Gloomy interior however and not much choice of seating, lack of privacy, overall it is about a 7 out of 10 but lacks something.
DrinkingJoeFrazier - 13 Aug 2010 12:20
not a good place to eat at now.
drinkers_paradise - 5 Jun 2010 12:34
Tried them out on a rect visit to Guildford. Impressive ales board outside, although only 6 available. (I say only but that's the best haul I'd seen in one location during my visit. Got to try a few I'd not had before. Sat at the window in the upper "bar", although got the impression this was prefered for diners as we, and others were asked "when" we'd be ordering. The beers were well kept, and not overly expensive. I'll try their ales on my next visit.
watsonworld - 23 May 2010 17:30
Promises a good selection of beers as there were 6 pumps but only 2 were on when I went in. The upcoming beers are listed and the barman asked which I would prefer. If they actually do take into account the wishes of the punters I'll be impressed!

Also given a choice of 'straight' or 'tankard' which was a nice touch and I always use a tankard if possible!

Better than it used to be although didn't see the upstairs area.
beergibbon - 11 May 2010 16:33
A good couple of pints of Timothy Taylor Landlord helped the Cumberland Sausages and spuds go down well. Good service and quiet as we visited them mid-week.
Paul_Rochdale - 9 May 2010 17:15
A fairly niceish place, interesting interior. A couple of real ales when I was there which weren't as good as I've had them served before. If I was in Guildford anyway, I would return
goosegog - 30 Mar 2010 07:23
Service has been sloppy lately but they have apoligised when there has been any probs... so still worth a visit and good real ales...
BestBeerBoffin - 31 Jan 2010 17:50
Not too much to add since last visit but the food was good and the beer was even better - that being the Timothy Taylor landlord. My rating of 9/10 still stands.
PubReviews2010 - 23 Jan 2010 16:00
Dont know why it says this pub is closed it was not when I went there.
Had a lovely pint of black sheep when i went in, which went down a treat, decent veggie burger too.
Mattclary - 11 Jan 2010 15:25
The snow was bringing chaos to the town this afternoon.

However this pub was open and was a nice relief from the cold conditions. Inside was a warm atmosphere, the pub was closed upstairs but downstairs there was plenty of seats.

On tap was a fair few ales including Pride, Timothy Taylor and SA Brains which I went for.

Definitely worth a visit and a suitable location at top of High Street.

A little too Gastro for me but a 9/10 nontheless.
PubReviews2010 - 6 Jan 2010 16:34
Fairly standard choice of ales with the exception of the very enjoyable Thornbridge Kipling. The barman spotted some cloudy pints of another beer that customers had bought and taken to their tables and willingly changed them without being prompted. Ask for a top up, some of the beers were being sold ridiculously short of a full pint. Worth taking a break from the shopping to visit.
GazzaTheBeerMan - 4 Jan 2010 11:16
Visited fairly recently and in general I am quite a big fan of The Three Pigeons. More ales on tap than when was the Farriers and the food is decent if not outstanding. An excellent place for Sausages which is their specialality. The upstairs seating area is a little too Gastro-Like. However I can forgive them as this remains one of Guildford's good old fashioned pubs.
JohnOcean - 23 Dec 2009 13:22
This "Closed" pub sells a good range of real ale, both pints I tried were in good condition. Certainly better than some of the Open pubs near by.
pchaimba - 28 Nov 2009 12:02
Yes guys - This is now The Three Pigeons not closed! No point asking the people in charge to change it as they never bother... Anyway I ate here last weekend and the food is pretty decent, back to the tradional english food and the pub now serves 6 real ales which is better than the 2 they served when it was the Farriers. Still, despite the change it feels to much like the restaurant, not a place where you can take your time over eating.
PubWithTheGrub - 28 Oct 2009 18:01
Great to see this place back as the Three Pigeons. Not many proper pubs in the town centre any more. I do however get the impression the landlord has had a sense of humour bypass. I have started going there regularly and have never had a smile out of him.. Apart from that it is quite a pleasant place to go for a few beers. The food's not too bad either. Excellent range of sausages.
thirstypunter - 28 Oct 2009 16:34
Missing reviews again I see.
Yes Mitcells & Butler have taken it back so its now a pub again not a "gastro thingy jobby" which looking at a back review had 3000 cutomers a week yea right believe that and we`re get pink snow tomorrow !!!
Hope the new people have great success and well donr giving it back its true name.
Will be in this week.

ps is there going to be a cull on squirrel`s ???? or just the one ??
stroller - 21 Oct 2009 19:15

alecstewart - 15 Oct 2009 19:13

Still called the Three Pigeons (I think)...popped in for a pint on Saturday to avoid the Cup Final...2.80 for Pride, which is o.k. ...menu looked very tempting and not too pricey ...bit of a wine bar vibe going on ...I thought very nice place to take a lady for a date ...service excellent.
wolseley - 19 May 2008 17:08
I have to agree it`s a GREAT shame that another of Guildfords oldest has gone. Sod all the eating house`s that were once pubs.I know it won`t happen but it would be fantastic if someone took over one of these place`s and turned it back into a real pub.Fantasy i know but hay ho.
Beersupper - 28 Oct 2007 10:28
As the previous manager of the 3 Pigeons, just want to wish The Farriers all the best and have to say from what have I seen the refurbishment looks brilliant, beautifully done in keeping with the building ans see no reason why the atmosphere created in the bar downstairs shouldn't be an improvement. Good Luck !
black22ltd - 16 Oct 2007 13:07
Yes, i believe its now closed for refurbishment and shall open under the new name Farriers. Will become a gastro style pub.
aleman - 6 Oct 2007 10:26
eating house? i was under the impression that you can still go there just for a drink?
chrisconnor - 30 Sep 2007 21:29
Such a shame another of Guildfords oldest pubs bites the dust to turn into an eating house Trad. is going down the pan.
giveusabeer - 30 Sep 2007 14:19
New owners and new format coming soon!! Sorry hit post anonymously by mistake!
chrisconnor - 7 Aug 2007 22:09
New owners and new format coming soon!!
anonymous - 7 Aug 2007 22:08
miserable. i felt depressed when i left here after my last visit. It ought to be a shining example of guildford pubs what with it being the only pub actually on the high st. Cheer up (plus the table was sticky)
we_luv_freakz - 19 Jul 2007 14:38
Nice beer if you like real ale. Friendly and good bar service when I went. Haven't eaten there yet.
wizzardofoz - 10 Jul 2007 19:51
Menu appears updated since previous visit.

Good choice of fruit drinks as an alternative to the alcohol
aleman - 22 May 2007 18:55
Had a really lovely meal at this pub yesterday. Service was great. Food was lovely and not at all expensive. Having been before to this pub, I thought that the service had improved. Recommend this pub for good food, good service and a pleasant atmosphere!
Thank you!
Putneylocal - 30 Mar 2007 21:36
Town centre pub spruced up and revitalised by enthusiastic landlady. Now serving 3 reals ales - Bass (always on as it's an M&B pub), along with 2 guests (e.g. TT Landlord and Hogs Back TEA on a previous visit). Currently running a mini beer fest(13 ales) till the end of March, with 3 on at any one time and samples available before you buy. Beer quality on two recent visists has been very good and the food looked good and reasonably priced, (but not tried).
wee_jock - 26 Feb 2007 09:19
Think this place needs a good going over its tired needs help.
Beersupper - 28 Dec 2006 14:23
Always seems like a pub with hardly any atmosphere. Bit of a place to go if you are short of options!
aleman - 5 Oct 2006 14:12
I think the man with the bags sometimes sits by the river. But otherwise, I think they have to dust around him!
one_for_the_road - 23 Aug 2006 23:06
Bizzare place where the bar staff seem to favour the coffin dodging locals over the man in the street, so much so that when i was half way through my order, the barman was interupted by a craggy local, whom he then proceded to serve leaving me standing!!! Not impressed.
mooty123 - 7 Apr 2006 00:15
Is the smoking man with carrier bags at the circular table ALWAYS there? Oh and the bloke standing at the bar from the North East??? Good Pub. I LIKE IT!

anonymous - 28 Dec 2004 18:16
nice food, eaten in here twice, and always been happy. simple quality bar food, quick to the table and not overly expensive for guilford.
a30 - 3 Nov 2004 01:04
Aint been to this pub since 96 but it really was jumpin' in them days ;D
anonymous - 28 Aug 2004 22:46
This is "our"pub and my friends and I have spent SO much time in there in the past five years. Despite the expensive drinks, often miserable bar staff and the fact that they never seem to be serving food, there is just something about it that makes it feel like home.
Linds - 7 Jun 2004 13:48
Visited on a number of times and food always either under cooked, over cooked, items missing (as stated on menu) or extremely dry and hard, especially meat. Pub standards have definately dropped!!
anonymous - 3 May 2004 18:35
Food here is excellent!! Drinks a bit expensive though.
James Watling - 31 Jan 2004 22:09
staff are misrable, drinks expensive
sally - 5 Dec 2003 00:39
Used to drink in here at the weekends when I was 16, and it was fantastic. Jampacked on both floors. Have been back recently and there are usually only 2 or 3 other people in. Makes quite a nice change sometimes.
Matthew - 20 Apr 2003 17:39
its blatently an old man pub. yeah the big sofa is nice to start the evening on. gets crowded with old men and rollies. eww...
Phil - 21 Mar 2003 15:18
This pub is great for a quiet drink, especially if you get the big sofa upstairs overlooking the high street
Pete - 8 Feb 2003 17:11
The 3 Pigs used to be known as a real drinkers haven. Nowadays though they've tried to go upmarket like so many Guildford "pubs".
Geordie - 1 Aug 2002 08:56
